Joss Whedon directing "Sailor Moon" movie rumour debunked. Anime News Network has verified that no such story came from the Japanese magazine 'Animage'.

Hopefully this'll put an end to those "lets not check the facts" stories that have been doing the rounds.

The fact it made the rounds from an originating story which basically says it is false anyway makes me laugh. Never seen that happen before...
Nope, never, not even once *cough* IMDB *cough*.

Doubt this'll be the last of this one either.
Whee, the comments over there devolved into a trolling/flaming exercise. Anyway, reading those did make me wonder: what's this 'Outlaw Star' people are comparing Firefly to? Anyone here ever seen that?
It's a sci-fi western in space, GVH, which predates Firefly. It's not really very close to Firefly, though, and I doubt an influence at all.
Outlaw star? I thought Firefly was ripped off from Cowboy Bebop? :-P
You guys know nothing. Firefly totally stole from Bravestarr ;).
Oh. I'm confusing Outlaw Star with Cowboy Bebop. I think.

It made me laugh when somebody accused Tim Minear of stealing from Forever Knight on alt.tv.angel back in 2000. He replied saying "Uhm, nobody in the writers office knows what Forever Knight is", or words to that effect.
For a minute there, I got all excited and thought this was Homestar Runner they were talking about, which would rock. Oh, well, maybe next rumor. ;-)
Come on, Firefly clearly stole from the Renault Clio adverts. Where else could the Mal/Inara unresolved sexual tension plotline come from ? Talk about blatant, have they no shame ?

(they really needed to show River using 'strength of the bear' or 'speed of the poohma' though. What a wasted opportunity ;)
Ah I used to love Bravestarr though I'm sure if I watched it now I would be very sad at it's quality or lack there of.Cowboy Bebop however is still awesome though, of course, only has vague similarities to Firefly.
Having seen both Cowboy Bebop (which I love) and Outlaw Star (meh), I have to say that the similarities are all very surface level and saying that Firefly/Serenity stole from them is sort of like saying ER stole from Doctor Who cause, like duh, doctors in both.
I think most of the comparisons come from River in a box because one of these animes features a girl in the box. Which is just silly that they're still comparing it since that was one scene in how many?
I don't know about Bravestarr but I saw a lot of Galaxy Rangers in Firefly. Such an obvious ripoff. Joss should be ashamed.
I think it should be rahter obvious to everyone here that Firefly stole every good idea they ever had from Samurai Champloo. It's clear someone in the future saw the show Samurai Champloo, went back in time and then created Firefly, which is clear to anyone that has seen the two, what with all the samurai and being set int he Edo period of Japan.

That has to be why it was canceled too, because if it went on any longer it would have caused a causality loop and the universe as we know it would have collapsed from the strain.

And here I thought "Firefly" was just "The A-Team" in Space.

Good thing none of the "Angel" writers knew about "Forever Knight", 'cuz FK...? Blew large barnyard creatures. ('Tis only my opinion, of course. I'm sure others would disagree.)

It just bothered me how many people were freaking out over that stupid rumor. It was so unbelievable to start with. -_-
war_machine - big Champloo fan here, too :) Plus, bonus points for using a term like 'causality loop'. And to try to win some points for myself, I will quote Mike Doughty: "...correlation is not causation". On the topic: Glad to see this rumour debunked, getting emails on it daily was getting old :)
Look at US TV network Key's horribly made up Entertainment story...

Who wrote that rubbish? I mean, seriously...

(Wink).
Wow...um...I didn't even hear this rumor to begin with.

So, lemme get this straight:

Kate Beckinsale is gonna be in Wonder Woman...

Joss is directing Sailor Moon...

And Ben is Glory?
Well, you got one out of three right, Unpluggedcrazy. ;-)

I guess we could look it as a good thing that Joss is seen as being high-profile enough to be getting so popular in the rumor-mill...
Not only was Joss to direct Sailor Moon, Lindsay Lohan and Jennifer Garner were to star in it as well. And still people thought it was true.
OMG, L-Lo and The Other Jennifer are going to star in the Sailor Moon movie?

What's next? Ben is --

*reads upthread*

Oh. My. Goddess.

Did I mention Josh Wheldon is married to Jewel? ;-)
Also, "Alien: Resurrection" is what Joss is proudest of, still. Spread the word. (I think I might have gone too far with the lies....)
billz - you totally spelled Weldon wrong. And you left the umlaut off the o in Josh ;)
zeitgeist, I am so ashamed! How will I ever be able to call myself a fan of Jah Sweden again? ;-)
The mentions of Bravestarr give me warm fuzzies. That cartoon should be out on DVD some time in the next year or two. I can clearly remember a couple of the episodes, one of them was really good. It might hold up today. Somewhat.

The mentions of Cowboy Bebop remind me that I was once hard-determined to watch it, back when the DVDs were ridiculously expensive (are they still?) and it wasn't available for rent anywhere. Hmm...

I would actually rather see a Joss Whedon Sailor Moon than Wonder Woman. I guess 'cause I actually watched a lot of Sailor Moon when I was 12 and would be interested in seeing what Joss would do with it, to what degree he might un-cheese the powers. Heh, I liked some of it (c'mon, Season 1's finale? So good).
Joss would never do a Sailor Moon movie, he is totally over blondes- it's all about the brunettes now!

Now, do we suspect that there may be some kind of connection between Ben and Glory?
So, what you're saying is that there's some kind of link between Ben... and Glory?

I might have to ask Joe Sweedon about this.

...

I'm sorry guys, I cant bite my tongue on those jokes. I TRY.
