Mike Massa (Angel stunt double) in Superman Returns.
He's acting and stunt doubling as Supes himself.
I confess, I'm so excited about the new trailer that I was willing to look deep in the production for a Whedon connection. Turns out I didn't have to look that far.
The long-time stunt double for Angel and stunt coordinator on 'Angel' actually plays "777 Pilot" and is also credited as lead stunt double, presumably meaning he actually dons the cape and boots. There's no sign of his acting role in the trailer, but he could conceivably be in it as stunt double.

Seriously, why did they cast the boy from Smallville to play Superman?
What, it's not him? Well, he has the same age and the same "hey, I'm a good-looking teen on US TV" look.

Just think,in the not too far future,we'll have Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman.

I've heard, erm, rumours this film hasn't turned out well. I'll wait to judge for myself.

Good for Mike Massa.
Peta Wilson Yay!
Although she really couldn't help League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Well, acting isn't everything... yes, as much as good-looking isn't everything. Both counts. Had they cast Al Pacino for Superman - and there's no doubt Al Pacino can act - this would also have been a terrible choice.
Really: this superman is not supposed to be so young, if Lane is married and so on... it seems to me that, casting such a face for superman, they are trying to ride a Smallville horse, and since I can't think less of this series...
No, come on gossi, feel free to talk!

Course in 2 months time I'll be saying.
Anyhow _________ ___________ was cast for a very good reason in the Wonder Woman movie and I trust Joss Whedon's judgement.

I think Brandon Routh was cast for many reasons but at least partly because, from certain angles, he's the absolute spitting image of Christopher Reeve and as Simon says 'Returns' is intended as a sequel to Superman II (presumably Singer is going to Highlander 2 the other sequels out of movie continuity). Reeve too was a good looking, young relative unknown so it's probably wise not to prejudge.

Did anyone else get the impression that Brandon Routh was channeling Christopher Reeve? *spine chill*

Mr. Spacey is great, really, but he does tend to, er, go big. Which, I agree, jam2, is perfect for Lex Luthor. So, some good genre things coming along -- this, X3, erm, when's Spidey premiering, this year or next?
billz | May 03, 01:25 CET
It is not so much the physical age than the appearence that matters; and, sorry to say, but Reeve at the time of Superman (I) didn't have this "teen" look that Routh has.

Wouldn't normally bother with Superman but Kevin Spacey as Lex - now that I would love to see.
The Do That Girl | May 03, 05:10 CET
You big tease.
And I agree Simon, Spacey looks like he's going to be great as Lex.
anindoorkitty | May 03, 08:49 CET
The Do That Girl - Yeah, he was one of Niska's henchmen in that last big fight in Serenity's cargo hold. I think he was the one Wash went after with the Mule, but I may be wrong.
