Dawson's Creek is a big part of our pop-culture lexicon? Really? I conceed it got better ratings, but I find it hard to believe it left a bigger mark on our culture.
Also, just to add my own anecdotal story to prove nothing, my situation was the exact opposite from this girl - everyone I knew was watching Buffy and the words Dawson's Creek made everyone's nose shrivel up as if there were a fowl odor in the room.

Buffy, on the other hand, affected pop culture in ways that people who didn't watch Buffy don't even realize. The Slayer Slang, the strong, ass-kicky girls all over TV and movies - an image of girl strength that wasn't there before. A lot of it is more subliminal than just noticing, "Hey, there's a lot of shows about girls killing vampires. Everybody's trying to be the next Buffy" which is basically what the reader was saying about Dawson's Creek. I'll go with the other any day.

Just to be snarky... There could be shows trying to be the next Buffy/Angel, realize that they will never reach that level of greatness, and decide to whimper in the corner instead.

Q: Hasn't Charmed been bashed enough on here?
A: Of course not!
