An Ubervamp and a Gentleman - Camden Toy tells all. There's some lovely behind the scenes info about Hush here, it's a real gold mine for Buffy trivia.

Huh. The 'laughing men'? That just makes me think of Ghost in the Shell, which in turn makes me think of Salinger, which makes me wonder then if the Gentlemen were at all based off The Laughing Man.
The bit about the cast not wanting to be around him during the shooting of Hush, is similar to what Andy Serkis talks about during his first few days of LoTR.
I thought Gnarl was the creepiest, scariest demon on BtVS. He scared the daylights out of me. His movements, his little sing-song voice, and, big one, his eating flesh and drinking blood while his victim was still alive. Yuck. Camden Toy did a great job in brining this monster to life. I still fast-forward through the part where he has Willow in the cave. Too creepy.
