Browncoat Poster Project.
Adam of the SF Browncoats is creating a poster entirely of text.
He'd really love to for this to be a community project and for all of us to contribute a favorite quote or very short story/memory (e.g. "Joss said our booth was the Ethel Merman of booths." or "Browncoat women are hawt.
Email him at adam at blackmarketbeagles dot com.

Can't think how this project could be expected to appeal to me.

Share what you submitted if you've a mind to (I don't know if I'll be able to get a poster or see it since I won't be at Flanvention). Mine was based on some joking at James Gunn's blog when he gave us the news NF had opened his MySpace:
"Cap'n needs to get the girl, and keep her."

"My visions of the future are always pretty much standard issue. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer and there are flying cars." -- Joss Whedon, TV Guide, 27 December – 2 January, 2004
'’I'm a very hard-line, angry atheist. Yet I am fascinated by the concept of devotion. And I want to explore that." – Joss Whedon, in Emily Nussbaum’s Must-See Metaphysics, NYTimes, 09/22/02
"I hate camp. I don't enjoy dumb TV. I believe Aaron Spelling has single-handedly lowered SAT scores." – Joss Whedon, in Emily Nussbaum’s Must-See Metaphysics, NYTimes, 09/22/02
''If I made 'Buffy the Lesbian Separatist,' a series of lectures on PBS on why there should be feminism, no one would be coming to the party, and it would be boring. The idea of changing culture is important to me, and it can only be done in a popular medium.'' – Joss Whedon, in Emily Nussbaum’s Must-See Metaphysics, NYTimes, 09/22/02
''I want viewers to equate the past, the present and the future, not to think of the future as 'that glowy thing that's distant and far away.' " – Joss Whedon, in Emily Nussbaum’s Must-See Metaphysics, NYTimes, 09/22/02
''We're paying homage to the same thing: the storytelling. I wanted to create a fiction that would affect people's lives. And this has affected people's lives. It's affected my life. Without it my life is meaningless.'' – Joss Whedon, in Emily Nussbaum’s Must-See Metaphysics, NYTimes, 09/22/02
''I don't want to create responsible shows with lawyers in them. I want to invade people's dreams.'' -- Joss Whedon, in Emily Nussbaum’s Must-See Metaphysics, NYTimes, 09/22/02
"My interest in women is mainly their strength. My interest in men is mainly their flaws. I realize both have both, but that's how it falls out. It's an identification with Otherness -- call it Cinematic Drag." -- Joss Whedon, in an on-line Q&A answering questions from various fansites, "Joss Answers Questions," September 29, 2005
"Stay crunchy, even in milk." -- Joss, Whedon, Whedonesque.com post on November 9th, 2005
"Very occasionally, if you really pay attention, life doesn’t suck." -- Joss Whedon, from the liner notes to the cast album for Once More With Feeling.
"SERENDIPITY fans happen to be the most tastefullest fans who have extra or redundant body parts." -- Joss Whedon, February 16, 2006, on warrenellis.com
"If nothing we do matters, then all that matters is what we do." -- Angel, Season Two, "Epiphany." (Actually, Tim Minear wrote this ep, but Joss is the uber-mensch, yeah? Also mentioned in the DVD commentary for the Firefly episode, Objects in Space.)

lexigeek, you're making a calligram-ish kind of thing, yeah? Like Apollinaire's this-y and that-y (which I'm sure are their official names...)
(The Gonerian "Aww, come to Pappa!" is just the sweetest.)

Cool idea anyway.
(know what you mean Tonya J, Joss has never seemed all that 'angry' an atheist, in fact he seems quite moderate in most things, but then some see that sort of thing as pretty private so could be he's just never vented the way he'd like to in public. Also, maybe not all that great a career move ;)

I would also like to contribute "Serenity. Better than Ice Pirates!".
Simon | November 12, 17:31 CET
And how about something from the little video he did for RavenU, talking to us Whedonesquers, from a couple of years back. Something about how we were cooler than everyone else?

Oh, brilliant! Thanks Simon!
lexigeek | November 12, 20:50 CET
Amazingly, no! Well, sort of. A friend of mine who I got into FF & Serenity, but who I don't think would characterize herself as a browncoat, was searching the Web for Joss quotes after I told her about this project, and she found that one. It was the first time she'd seen it!
lexigeek | November 12, 21:02 CET
lol. Thanks Cab! I wish I could keep the hug in my pocket!
mifeng | November 12, 21:55 CET
And, lexigeek, I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished results.
palehorse | November 12, 23:58 CET
Thanks for posting that link, Simon, it's just chock-full of nuggets of goodness. Oh, yeah, and thanks for writing 'em in the first place, Jossir.
QuoterGal | November 13, 00:16 CET
"Serenity, better than Ice Pirates!" After I finished snorting and guffawing, I thought to myself, "That is almost tattoo-worthy."
Tonya J | November 13, 00:41 CET
Done.

Heh heh heh :) Sounds good to me. BTW, I have about 200 entries so far, and I'm hoping to get about 200 more, so please continue to send them in, (and encourage others to do the same) even if it's just your screen name!

lexigeek, if you want, you can email me the quote-list you've got and I'll add a bunch more right away - and if you do get more from others, you can dump these extras. (And I'd like to take this opportunity to offer this absolutely unsolicited testimonial about the quality of your Cafe Press stuff. I bought a lot of 'verse stuff lately at CP, and of the three producers I used, yours was the only one where the art was high-res, crisp and thoroughly well-done. Those others were disappointing, but you delivered. Good on you! I now drink coffee every morning from your super-large "I'm a Fan of a Particular Science Fiction Television Show and/or Movie" mug.)

That was pretty much what I was aiming for, something beagly, and you're welcome, QG! :-)

That was pretty much what I was aiming for, something beagly ...
You guys rock, and have completely made my day! :)
lexigeek | November 13, 10:55 CET
"One Captain. One Psychic. One Assasin. One Doctor. One Shepherd. Another Assasin, but different from the first. One Mechanic. One Companion, which is like a geisha or a courtesan, I guess sort of. One... um... did I do Mechanic? Which movie is this?"
and
"Serenity. Like glass in a bag."
and another fave:
"They're outnumbered, outgunned, and have no skills... Wow, they're gonna DIE!"
I'd also like to add my voice to the chorus of people declaring how much this idea rocks.

cronopio | November 13, 20:40 CET
Of course, you wanted less than 10 words each phrase.
Tonya J | November 13, 22:50 CET
Yeah, but I've gotten some really good quotes (esp. Joss quotes) that have been substantially longer than 10 words, but were too good to pass up. So, as long as it's not half a page long, I'll use whatever folks send me. :)
