Interesting about Still Dead Anya's appearance not being ruled out, stuff being worked out with the Angel franchise owners about Spike, and mondo-mega-BSG-love.

I love Joss. I love him so much. And I would totally drool on him, not intentionally so much as the other thing.

I still haven't gotten time to watch BSG, but I watched the pilot and am very eager. And Ron Moore *is* probably the best regular writer on TNG and DS9.

I love Joss' talk about the BSG comics and about his own. He is taking these Buffy comics seriously--which I love. Seriously not in the sense that they won't be fun, but seriously in the sense that he wants the 'verse to work. The fugue reference? I'm so there. And when he said that he might be working on some of the things that fell between the cracks? Oh boy, am I squeeing. Of course, that could mean anything, but a season eight that takes the time to tie up loose ends from the show and make it even more perfect? I can't wait.

And Joss is writing the last four as well! Is this the first time we've had confirmation that he's writing more than just the start?

I still say Petrie, Espenson, Fury and Goddard for the other issues.

page 1:

There used to be one slayer in all the world.
Eighteen hundred now, that we've counted. Almost five hundred working with (Dr.[?]) in ten separate (?).
There's even three of me.

page 5:
"Field's (?) and we're on the roof."
"Access should be right in front of you."
"Leah, open her up."
The guys figured I was a three...set up two other slayers to be me. One's underground. Literally.
One's in Rome partying very publicly--and supposedly dating some guy called "The Immortal".
That part was Andrew's idea. He did research on the guy, said it would be hilarious for some reason.
"Can't see a thing, ma'am."
"Can SMELL a thing, though."
Here at Command Central, not so much with the hilarious.
More with the "what the hell am I doing?"
"What th' hell is she doing?"
It's not all that different, though.
Still got my demons.
And I still got my watcher.

Every time I hear about these comics, they sound even better! I wonder if Whedon will be exploring the story he was considering using in the Spike movie, in his CHUD interview he hinted that the Spike movie would tie into Fray and the Slayer mythology:

Q: This might be more fanwank, but in Fray you have that bit where you touch on what happened to all the magic and demons and that didn’t happen at the end of Buffy, which I sort of expected. Is that the kind of thing we should just forget about?

Whedon: No, that’s actually something I hope to deal with, either in the Spike format or in another series of Fray.

Q: Are there plans for another series?

Whedon: That’s just me talking. But yeah, there’s a discrepancy there that I plan to explain. I have a vision for it.

Cool interview, always great to get little bits about this new series! Really does sound like it's going to be great.

The fact that we're getting more Astonishing is almost completely dwarfed by the fact that we're getting more Buffy, but still yay. Is that as well as Runaways then, or will that be delayed a bit? Either that or this is an old interview.

And again, the old "Buffy was cancelled" mistake, though with the last season it did make me wonder how they thought it was "suddenly cancelled".

I suspect we would have heard elsewhere if Whedon was writing Astonishing beyond #24. I'd guess that the interview was done a while ago and Whedon meant he that the "one more run" was #13-24.

This was a more informative interview than the past few with regard to the Buffy comic. I still worry about featuring new slayers and not sure I like that space suity look in the comic pages we saw, but Joss has raised my interest back up when it had begun to fall. Though I wish TVG had asked about Tara rather than Anya. But if we take the meaning of there being three Buffys, one of whom (not the real one) is hanging withi the Immortal, does that mean Willow and Kennedy are not really in Rio? LOL.

BUt I was really happy to see Joss talk up TV again.

Thanks, annagranfors. I was not going to even try to read those pages. I was interested because it was Joss and BtVS but not crazed with excitement because it was comics. The whole immortal thing got me though. I was laughing and chuckling all the way to work, and I'm still smiling. I told my son and he just started giggling. Great way to start the morning.

I don't care at this point if there are other slayers cluttering things up as long as Joss keeps a firm grip on things. I have faith he can make it all work. Yeah, I'm getting excited now.

Holy Toledo, this is so cool. How great is it to see Joss talk about Buffy again? I was grinning all through that. Saje, I too thought he was referring to Angel. Don't care one way or another about the ships, that's just the impression I got.

Artwork is nice, if a little inconsistent with Buffy's face. And is that redhead supposed to be Willow? Cuz if so, wow, hair all growy!

This comic will force a major adjustment in my aesthetic expectations. With every new sneak peek at the artwork, I realize more and more how conditioned I am to expect a TV "template" -- 10 pages of talking in the magic box, as it were. The space suits, the helicopter -- quite literally, not what I had in mind, and not what I should have in mind. I have work to do to prepare my brain for comic-book Buffy, as opposed to line drawings of the TV show, which is how my naive, underexposed-to-comic-books mind had been picturing Buffy S8.

Ahhhh, a Joss interview in the morning. I'm on Cloud 9. I love reading, especially an interview like that, where you can feel the little wheels whirring in Joss' head; I don't mean manufactured shop speak but just, how he speaks, how what to say or how to answer just comes and probably so quickly too (we saw/heard evidence of that in the FanBoy Radio interview). But beyond that you just feel his caring and concern for the work he does. Lovely stuff.

I've said it before but i'll say it again (in the hopes the ~~pimping~~ promotion cheques will finally start to roll in ;), if you're new to comics then, IMO, 'Understanding Comics' by Scott McCloud is the place to start trying to really 'get' them and see that, in the right hands, there's more to them than just stories with pictures. Been reading them for years and it was chock full of revelations to me.

I have no doubt at all about how I'll respond to Joss's writing (I'll love it). But the things I loved about the show went well beyond the writing -- the actors, to take the most obvious example. How will my response change when the comic rolls around? Will the absence of the actors be too much for my TV-conditioned brain to overcome? We shall see.

1starbuckstown, I just started reading comics this year - as a way to continue the Buffy verse and then I started reading other comics. I think that you'll find that when an author has nailed the voice of a character, you can hear the actor speak the lines and it is a little bit like "watching" an episode. If you haven't tried them yet, pick up the first three issues of Spike: Asylum by Brian Lynch to see what a well-written comic set in the Buffy verse is like. He has completely captured the character of Spike, plus writing a very compelling story that is packs a lot of plot in a few pages. The 4th issue is out December 20th.

I don't see Buffy and the new slayers as wearing "spacesuits" as much as wearing some high tech gear that includes more protective clothing -- much like the gear from the Initiative. After all, now that she's running the counsel, I'm sure she's freed up all their money and is using it to support the slayers and outfit them correctly. She no longer has to rely on part time job wages. As Spike said, "I always wondered what would happen when that bitch got funding." Maybe now we'll find out.

Willowy, I don't think the redhead is supposed to be Willow. I remember in an earlier interview, Joss said that Willow won't be appearing for a few issues, but when she does, it will be awesome.

I'm also liking the idea of Andrew setting up the whole Immortal cover. Andrew finally gaining some confidence and coming into his own. But, did he do it just to screw with Angel, or both Angel and Spike, or to provide a good cover for Buffy and, if it messed with Angel, all the better? It always seemed like Andrew had more than a man crush on Spike and in TGIQ, Andrew seemed genuinely surprised (and more than a little pleased) to see Spike. We do know from "Damage" that the slayer camp doesn't trust Angel now that he's at Wolfram & Hart, so it would make sense that when Angel and Spike were in Rome, Andrew wouldn't tell them the truth. Either way, I'm certainly looking forward to seeing what the true story is.

And also, I'm giving Angel and Spike the benefit of the doubt that they were too preoccupied at the club to 'smell' that it wasn't the real Buffy...

I'm pretty sure Joss is refering to Angel here.

Whedon: It's a little weird. It's not an ideal situation, but I would not heavily use those characters. There's a reason you have Angel do his own show, because you can only play out the variations of "What if Romeo and Juliet lived?" for so long. He's in her heart, but he will be used sparingly.

Joss refers to Angel specifically and his own show.Spike didn't have his own show.Also,I have only heard the Romeo and Julliet comparison made about B/A,not B/S.Joss himself has compared Buffy/Angel to Romeo and Julliet a few times as have some of the other writers.

Buffy's friends thought she should have body doubles standing in for her.The Buffy we saw in TGIQ is a fake Buffy partying it up.It was Andrew's idea to have the fake Buffy in Rome date The Immortal because he thought it would be funny.So Buffy was never dating The Immortal.I love this spoiler.

This does bring into question how much we should take at face value what was said in Angel season 5.We already know now Buffy was never dating The Immortal and Andrew lied.There was a interview with Dark Horse editor Scott Allie in the most recent offical magazine that even alluded to that.Not to take everything said in Angel season 5 at face value in regards to Buffy and the Scoobs.

Probably, each unit is lead by scoobies or veteran potentials who survived the battle in "Chosen". And there's also Faith and Robin Wood. As it seems he did took a unit himself to LA, when they extracted Dana.

Makes you wonder if Andrew told Buffy about Spike, as it would seem that he doesn't trust Angel either, would that include Spike seeing as he was involved with Wolfram & Hart too.

A bit surprised that Angel's taking over Wolfram & Hart has led Buffy to seemingly lose all faith in Angel, he claimed to have spoken to her since "Chosen" and yet he still believed she was in Rome, did she tell him that because she no longer trusted him and wanted to dissapear or did she realise that if she didn't want Wolfram & Hart to know where she was, then Angel couldn't know where she was.

How much of what we know is true? Was Willow really on another plane when Angel called Giles, or did he just not want a witch as powerful as her to go there, meaning that were it not for the fact they worked at Wolfram & Hart, Giles would have sent Willow to help restore Fred's soul?

Is one of the slayers jumping out of the helicopter Kennedy? Can we hope that her parachute fails? Or that she falls down some stairs in that castle?

Maybe, Willow did a spell so anyone trying to track Buffy, would be confused, or would actually believe smelling her there.

You so win the 'no prize'. And that's what my hubby said too. I can buy it. You do have to take those kind of precautions when people are known to be sniffing you out.

Is one of the slayers jumping out of the helicopter Kennedy? Can we hope that her parachute fails? Or that she falls down some stairs in that castle?

OMG, that is so mean! But I can't help but support every word of it...

She was motivated, I'll give her that. And she wasn't as mouthy as Rona. But that's the best I can say for her...and I don't wish Willow more pain, but maybe Kennedy was just a rebound and they'll break up amicably and then Kennedy can go away. Far.

Oh, no, I've always believed Kennedy was more into Willow than Willow was into Kennedy. Kennedy was Willow's wartime "companion." I expect them to break up.

Words can't describe how excited I got when I saw this sneak peek! Now I've had Buffy Season 8 plot possibilities stuck in my head all day! I can't wait!

As for Kennedy, I've always been a fan. I thought that she was an excellent addition to Buffy (and a great partner for Willow!) and it was nice to see a potential with actual, you know, potential. I sometimes wonder, if we would have gotten Kennedy in Season 4 and Tara in season 7 would people be as turned off by Tara as they are of Kennedy?

OMG, I can't believe how truly exciting this is. I didn't initially think I cared that Angel couldn't appear in Buffy season 8 but now that Joss seems to be implying it IS possible, I am thrilled.
Immortal wiped out. (See, Joss DOES know that Buffy has big beautiful green eyes) I still have my Watcher! Buffy and Xander goodness. References to Romeo and Juliet.

Wow! Okay, even for me - someone really not into comics AT ALL - this is exciting. Okay Joss, you have me intrigued. I love Buffy, I love the Scooby Gang and this is promising so far. I love, love, LOVE the line about Buffy still having her watcher. Now all we need is some good SG bonding and I'll be buying like a mad-woman.

Oh, and fixing "The Girl in Question" is so completely exciting to me I almost can't stand it. So thank you, thank you, thank you! Best news I've heard about the Buffyverse in a LONG time.

Oh and nice interview too! I am now officially interested in these Buffy comics. And even if we only get minimal B/A stuff, I'm good with that too. These comics SHOULD focus on Buffy and the SG. It'll be like old times.....sort of. *bounces*

I love all the love and ideas being bandied about here! But here's something no one seems to have mentioned or maybe I'm the only unfocused one or something.

The old enemy that everyone was guessing about in other, previous threads--could it be Drac? Doesn't that castle look like something the Count would have??

Any ideas about this??

Oh. And I love that Josh fella and how he loves (and never lets go of) his creations. Which I also love immensely. More than immensely. Like, hugely. Good interview, too.

I saw the actress who played Vi the Vampire Slayer a couple of times tonight on T.V. in a telephone company commercial. I wouldn't mind seeing the remaining former potentials again. Throw fruits and meats as you will.

Just a couple months ago I rewatched Buffy in its entirety, and even though I've been aching for more...I didn't realize until Buffy mentioned Andrew that I am physically aching not just for the idea of the show continuing or for Buffy herself, but for that entire world back, warts (*cough*Kennedy*cough*) and all. And I'm getting it!

I've said that Joss has the best TV series and the best movie, but that he falls just a wee bit short of having the best comic book. The times, they are a-changin'...
