January 16 2007

It's Official - Booster Events is Closing up Shop! There is a brief note on their website saying the website will be shut down as of January 18th.

Yeah, I was debating about posting this, no idea where Whedonesque mods will stand on it. All 2007 events are cancelled, which includes the Angel Booster Bash 2007 thing, or whatever it's called. And the Neptune Noir one. No refunds were ever offered to customers. Which isn't really the best bookend to the story, but hey.

I'm getting a save because you might need it for the legal stuff you'll want to file in the immediate future vibe out of the remark about printing anything in the "Your Orders" and "Your Account" sections.

Well, at least now the other shoe fell and it's one less thing to speculate about? Or, well, more than one, considering the multiple events that were slated to possibly-maybe-sorta happen.
And we have our first real entry in the "Least Surprising News Item of 2007" contest...

Look for other "Least Surprising" contestants, such as, "Still No Greenlight on Serenity Sequel," "Gellar Reluctant to Revisit Buffy," "Unknown Actress Fitted for Wonder Woman's Tiara?" and "Marsters Fans Remain Dedicated," coming soon to a Whedonesque blog near you! ;)
jenolen, lmao! :-)

So, there are even more people who have paid money to Booster and can't get it back? Sheesh. :-(

How are people doing with getting Flan2 refunds? I've read some con reports where some of the people who used credit cards got some love from the CC companies, but how about other peeps?

Now you can't blame that JM mention in a completely non-JM-related thread on the crazed obsessed JM fans this time...you're not a crazed obsessed JM fan, are you, jenolen? *frets*
I really feel for those people who bought "lifetime passes" to future cons from BE. All that for nothing, but it happens sometimes.
Oh, and I suspect those who paid for Flan 2 tickets through PayPal (namely me) are out of luck. But I'll call them this week just in case.

Well, at least my one friend who paid for BB II will be able to get her money back from her credit card company now...
I have to get in contact with my credit card company today and see what can be done about my BBII passes.
Good to know this is here. I'll get what I can from the site before it comes down. No money back from Flan yet, I'm still hoping. And now at least we can try for the Booster Bash.
Figures that I finally get a Whedon-themed con in my neck of the woods (Booster Bash 2), and it gets canceled. Thank goodness I kept up to date with the Flan catastrophe and didn't give them any money for BB2.
anindoorkitty - so long as no one shows up and starts yelling about jenolen being a "known JM/Spike hater", I think we'll be okay ;)
For anyone who has not yet been in contact with or contacted by, the Detective on the case sent this email message to those effected by the 2007 event cancelations.

"I just received an e-mail that Booster is cancelling it's 2007 events. This does not surprise me. If you are someone who e-mailed me regarding 2007 events, please send any e-mails correspondence between you and Booster and copies of your receipts. If you paid by credit or debit card, you should attempt to get a charge back from your CC company. Anyone receiving a charge back from their CC company please let me know that info, this includes those of you who received a charge back regarding Flan II.
The investigation continues. Surpriseingly, Booster and affiliates are not cooperating. I wish I could tell you more, but I have to keep the details protected."

If you need to contact the Detective about Booster's 2007 events he can be reached at bon[at]ashland.or.us only for the 2007 events at this time. I think he has enough from the Flan II, but anyone who may not have gotten their Nano refund might want to send him that information as well.
Was this a personal e-mail the detective sent? I've been wondering what's been going on regarding the investigation. Hopefully, something can be done, because not everyone who was ripped off because of these canceled Conventions will be getting their money back. Some banks, and Paypal have been giving people a hard time.

Yes, leiasky, although it's been published. I'm not even going to get into speculating about the situation, but you can read between the lines with the last sentence. All I can say is the amount of money people are out is a significant amount of money -- this isn't like a builder who ripped off a few grannies -- so it'll get investigated. I've no idea if people who can't get their banks to do something will get anything back long term, though -- I hope so.
It was a general email sent to those who have contacted the detective in the past. I just figured some people may not have contacted him before about future events, so this is their chance to be heard.
Oh, apologies, didn't realise it was sent out on mass. My mistake.
An email notice to all registered users on the Booster site would be a better way to notify everyone, especially given the short time frame. I know the news of the site closing isn't surprising to anyone here, but I'd hate for someone who isn't as active a member of the community to be caught unaware. I haven't received a notice, so I assume they haven't sent one out.
Yeah, one would wonder, when we KNOW they have the ability to mass mail their customers, why that hasn't been done.

I'm not on the Detective's e-mail string so I didn't realize his e-mail went out to a bunch of people. I've since scene this posted elsewhere:)
Email just went out to customers.
Looks like they are reading these post, killinj.

I'm actually right here in Louisville, just a few miles from the Marriott where this was to take place, and I feel the same way! I can never attend conventions out of state because of my real life (you know, a job, money, tickets, etc), so I was planning on going to BBII if I had to sell my hair or my car. I guess it is now a moot point. Good luck to all those who need refunds--don't give up trying!
