my sisters name is Alexis Kate Tully
now we have Alex Tully (Nathan Fillion)
and Kathryn Tully (Amy Acker)
and they just both happen to be portrayed by Whedonverse actors.

:D
And even if Amy's playing Nathan's sister, rather than wife, it's still mighty damn cool. Mainly cuz all Tim would need is Gina and Adam to pop up and you got the Big 4 for Whedonverse actors who totally blew us outta the water with their 2nd roles for Joss & co ;)

impalergeneral, that role is played by Melanie Lynskey. Amy is playing Nathan Fillion's character's wife.
This is such great news! Although the fact that she plays his "missing" wife doesn't bode well for amount of screentime.

Any more Whedon'verse people added to Drive will create a vortex that has the potential to pull Joss right into it.
Don't look at me like that - that's just how physics works.
QuoterGal | January 18, 11:31 CET
This is going to be strange, but it's really good news!
Now we just need an actor/actress from BtVS, and we'll have a trifecta of Whedonverse...ness.

I think I have to go explode from the giddy. Or count this as an awesome late birthday present, since the premiere date is 4 days after my birthday.
I wonder how many other Whedonverse actors will show up, if only in a guest capacity?
And QuoterGal? If Joss can pop up on VM after Alyson and Charisma end up over there, I don't think you're being at all unrealistic.

But Fred married to Mal is an interesting situation, but if Nathan's character is racing because Amy's character is kidnapped, what will her role be? Will we learn she wants him to think he was kidnapped for another reason? Just wondering....
Is it April yet?
impalergeneral | January 18, 11:45 CET
As QuoterGal said, it's just physics.
Numfar PTB | January 18, 11:47 CET
I guess the internet sites which reported the info just mixed up who plays who in the Tully family.
Le Comité | January 18, 11:52 CET
You'll learn things in the pilot. The pilot is all about learning things. And also learning what needs to be learned.

(That said... I think this thread proves how few people actually read the articles that are linked to... It clearly says she's playing Nathan Fillion's wife - and yet there's speculation? Weird.)
Also, I don't wanna see Whedon *in* "Drive". I want to see him direct an episode... or write one :-)

This is just way too much awesomeness for one show.

crossoverman I think in some parts of America wife/sister is a confusing distinction. According to 'The Simpsons' anyway.
As QuoterGal said, it's just physics.
Yep, s'true. Physics = vortices. Teacher told me. Course he was stoned at the time and his next comment was "Wow, that's my fuckin hand, man !" but it's probably still good info.
Re: screen time, I wouldn't be surprised if we had quite a few 'Lost' style flash-backs so she may appear more than her character description suggests. And, what's more, w00t !
(and yay Tim for taking care of his peeps. Is Katie Finneran making an appearance ? She was great in both 'The Inside' and 'Wonderfalls' IMO)

I wouldn't be surprised if we had quite a few 'Lost' style flash-backs so she may appear more than her character description suggests.
All flashbacks are now "Lost"-style? ;-)
Yes, I guess if she's missing... and if the race is already in progress... there will be some need of flashbacks. But Tim would never make them mandatory.
Wow, I can't wait to see what he does with this!

Seriously, this really is good news! Whedon Alumni rule!
Also, I hope your head gets all better, billz. I'll FedEx some duct tape right away. And don't forget to look under the sofa. In my experience, some of the pieces always wind up there after this kind of explosion.

Does anyone else think there's a secret plan to create a show with a huge cast, pepper that cast with Whedonverse alums, start killing off the OTHER characters, and, in effect, create a new Whedon-y show by default? I do.

Hell, let's just get everyone from the Whedonverse either a role or a guest spot on "Drive"! They can rename the show "C'mon In! The Water's Fine!" Or not.
In any case, I sincerely hope FOX nututures and gives this time to flourish. Oh wait...it's FOX. Well, here's hoping anyway. **crosses fingers**. That pre-"24" timeslot (I love "24") is excellent prime time real estate and I hope it translates into millions of eyeballs watching "Drive" while waiting for "24" to start.

Either way, I definitely want to check out Drive when it airs!

I get it. Assume the 'E' is silent, then 'hrle' looks a bit like 'Hurley' the guy from 'Lost'. So you're saying they're all driving on a huge island ! With Polar Bears ! And Walt from 'Lost' is a 'little man' so he must be a pyromaniac ! Can't believe I missed that, cheers zeitgeist.

Gods, Tim, we're excited, can you tell? You're going to make us love these characters and clutch them to our collective bosom, I just know it (and eventually kill off some of them in heartwrenching, totally unexpected ways, if your past record is any indication). I can't wait! Now if FOX doesn't do that customarily cruel-and-untimely-cancellation thing, we should have an awesome new series to obsess over.
Oh and please, if you can get that Joss guy off his lazy butt, could he possibly write or direct a little something? It would break the internet and be so very entertaining to watch (both the show and the broken internet, actually)...

This IS really cool.

Close zeitgeist but Ben from 'Lost' is really a Polar Bear ! You're right though, Glory is actually on the island but is yet to be revealed. She was in the U-Haul section, just behind the tail section.
Man, Alexis needs to get some of this action, even if he just pops up out of various boots as a random stowaway. Or maybe a highway patrol officer ? Like the 'Drive' equivalent of Roscoe P. Coltrane ?

Seriously, they really do need to get Alexis for this. Tim, are you listening?? I mean, I don't want to have to play hardball here, and make my signing on contingent upon signing Alexis as well.
Um, Saje, do I understand that you want Alexis popping out of various chemists' shops, possibly armed with sticking plasters for any race contestants unfortunate enough to get into fender-benders? Or do you envision him "drowning in footwear"?!
P.S. kurya, billz has always been "the gatekeeper to roles in Hollywood"!! Sorry, billz, your secret identity has been revealed. . . .
SangChaud | January 20, 15:20 CET
(US/UK lexicon for discussing 'Drive': trunk = boot, hood = bonnet, gas = petrol, stick shift = manual transmission - or just 'gears' since almost all cars over here have manual gearboxes, SUV = either '4x4' or 'people carrier' or, increasingly, 'SUV', compact = hatchback, the 'right' side is actually the left, freeways are motorways, parking lots are car parks and Tim Minear = 'bloody talented bloke'. A Big Mac is still a Big Mac though ;)
Saje | January 21, 01:24 CET
As long as we are in dreamland, I like the idea of AD being a mysterious character who keeps casually changing accents, personas and jobs whenever he shows up in the show. Just seems like something he could pull off really well.
Saje, good idea and good job, though "compact = hatchback" gives me pause. Are all smallish cars called hatchbacks in the UK no matter whether they have an actual trunk/boot or whether they have a door in the back? Because a compact car in the US does not necessarily have a hatch...you know...in the back...though hatchback's do. ;-)
newcj | January 21, 02:45 CET
billz | January 21, 02:53 CET
Aha newcj, seems that by pure coincidence everytime someone's said 'compact' on a US show i've been watching they've been talking about a hatchback, hence my goof. So compact just means, well, compact ? That's ... sort of depressingly logical ;).
(though i'd guess nearly all smallish cars over here are hatchbacks, it's just a more efficient use of the space when small really means small and not "Probably wouldn't fit an entire football team" ;). Not all though, sports cars etc. are obviously small, usually two door but don't normally have hatchbacks, they'd be a sort of two seat 'saloon' or 'sedan' as I think you call 'em)

newcj, I love this idea for Alexis! It's perfect! Tim, are you listening? billz, are you? Please? As a favor to all of us, what with all your, er, influence & stuff?
SangChaud | January 21, 17:08 CET

newcj | January 21, 20:45 CET
They're very few and far between now though, possibly because after Thatcher suddenly everyone developed middle-class pretensions and the idea of tacitly admitting to working-class status became anathema but I wonder if the two ideas are related ?
(otherwise i've got nothing. Maybe some barmy decree by a bygone King or similar ? ;).
