Smulders open to Wonder Woman.
In the tradition of naming every brunette actress in Hollywood as the next Wonder Woman, Cobie Smulders of How I Met Your Mother says she'd be open to auditioning for the role.
In other news: the Pope is Catholic and bears shit in the woods.

I really give her props for being honest and saying that she's just answering their question and doesn't really expect it will be happening. Although, I would love to see WW sing Let's Go To The Mall. It would be legend -- wait for it -- dary! ;-)
In the meantime, your daily minimum requirement of snark: Yes, and I am open in the endzone. Hit me, Peyton Manning, hit me! Yep -- about exactly as likely. ;-)

Casting hasn't even begun. And it won't begin until they've got a finished script. And they haven't got a finished script. So...
All of this is speculation.

But I have to say that Cobie Smulders has been my favourite choice since it was first announced that Joss was doing WW, and that was even before I got into HIMYM and was based on her role in the rather poor and short-lived 'Veritas: the Quest' (Cobie was the only decent thing it had going for it really).
However, I honestly thought there was no way she would ever be linked to the role, so it's nice to know that she would at least be interested in the part.

Um... members of the press:
What virtually-unknown actress under 30 wouldn't be "open" to starring in a Joss Whedon-written/directed, Joel Silver-produced, big-budget Warner Bros. studio tentpole superhero movie? Jeez...
(Please note I'm in no way criticizing the esteemed crossoverman, but rather the absurdity of Sci Fi Wire's original headline.)
FYI, Smulders' actual quote from the February issue of Esquire that started all this nonsense is...
"I have a couple of guy friends who want me to play Wonder Woman", she says. "I think they just want to see me in the suit."
That's it.
Sigh...

Heh, I've never been esteemed before. Steamed more than once...
Actually, my whole point of posting this link was to draw attention to the fact that, well duh - of course she'd be interested. Why wouldn't she be! Which is why I also mentioned The Pope and Bears...

I've written satires, parodies, fake interviews, fake news items, speculations, propositions, expositions, premonitions, banisters and canisters, bishops and fishops and rabbis and popeyes.
I just can't do it anymore. Wonder Woman Casting Rumours, you're on your own.
*sigh*
God help me, I've used up all my Wonder Woman Snark. I need a Wonder Woman Snark Refill stat. It's gonna be a long, rocky road to production if I can't find my Wonder Woman Snark Reservoir.

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I think this is a beautiful time in the life of any Wonder Woman Casting Speculation. You've done everything you can for them QuoterGal but now it's time for them to leave the nest, fly away and engender hours of largely aimless chat about the height, build and relative acting abilities of various brunette actresses (and Morgan Freeman) elsewhere. I'm actually tearing up a little here. Kleenex anyone ? *sniff* ...

So young. So vulnerable. Still so much to learn.
You're right, Saje, my work is done, and it's time for them to stand on their own two-to-however many feet.
I need a moment - I'm a little verkempt right now...
(Hey, billz, it was the "rocky road" that sent you down the ice cream path, wasn't it?)

dos) Every actress/woman would like to be Wonder Woman, no one is going to say "no I don't want it" especially in hypothetical-land, where everyone knows *I* am Wonder Woman
tres) Being brunette shouldn't even be a factor, since any actress/woman would be willing to dye her hair or wear a wig for the part. Having said that, an olive complextion and stature are more important appearance-wise. Talent and the ability to listen to the writer/director are important performance wise. Sorry, Donald Sutherland.
quatro) We can speculate all we want, throw out all of the names of female actresses until when casting finally does begin, someone can say "I told you so" just because they "thought of it first." The guessing isn't going to stop, so lets just enjoy the ride and have fun with it until the part is locked.
cinco) I am also open to auditioning for the role of Wonder Woman. In the meantime, call me Sheera: Princess of Power.
Arabchick | January 25, 02:21 CET
Of course, that BSG reference will probably lose me the part.

Hey, Joss did say he wanted someone young for the role.
stfletch2000 | January 25, 05:05 CET
You scream, I scream, we all scream, QG. We all scream. *sniffles as sentimental theme song about Wonder Woman Casting Rumors growing up and leaving the nest starts playing* ;-)
billz | January 25, 05:22 CET
You are so right about the hair color issue, but honestly the complexion shouldn't be a factor either. In the comic she is pale with dark hair and my understanding is that in the legend of the Amazons the women are also pale...and blond actually. If they decided to go with an olive complexion I doubt that people will complain...more than they will no matter who is chosen. ;-)
"So young. So vulnerable. Still so much to learn."
It is OK Quotergal, they get old fast.
