So, like I said, it is about a year later or more. I make mention that Dawn supposed to be in college, so that means it would have to be at least a year and a half.

This should be curious, cause this actually brings the events beginning after NFA, instead of co-currently to events from Angel S5.

I'm quite surprised that season eight is actually going to be set in a "season nine" time period, although I tend to think it makes a lot more sense. Rather than have to work around the details given about the various Scoobies during season five of Angel, Joss and the other writers are free to use the characters as they see fit.

It does beg the question of how much of the events of what would have been Angel season six will be mentioned. In fact, I wonder if Joss will even stick to those plans now? A post-apocalyptic style, demon infested L.A. would be equally as big news as Sunnydale being destroyed and hard to avoid mentioning so it could be that Joss has had other ideas about that. Nice to know that Angel, Spike and Illyria will be a lot more likely to show up now though. IDW allowing, of course.

Giant Dawn. Sweet. And hilarious and completely in character. Once again not listening to other people, especially her big sister Buffy, and not taking responsibility for her actions ("I didn't know .. ."). At least this time, she didn't get in trouble by running away yet one more time - or at least I don't think so based on the hints given to date.

Timeline -- I can see why there's the skip in time. It's more interesting to start the story with the gang and the organization all set up. Though,I hope we do get to see some of what went into setting up the organization and finding the new slayers. What about the new slayers that didn't want the power, did Willow do a spell that took away their power/calling? Did the spell only work once and doesn't affect potentials born after Chosen?

This is fun.

Hmm, I'm not sure I'm happy with what was unveiled in this part of the interview. Season 8 really should take place when the real Season 8 would. The power of BtVS was its ability to always (at least imo) make me completely understand what's going on in the characters' heads. This was accomplished through natural and gradual development of the characters. Skipping ahead a year and a half breaks that development which really worries me. BSG did this and, overall, I don't feel like it worked very well. I don't care for comics as it is, so I hope Whedon doesn't go overboard with ridiculousness. Big Dawn? On first glance it looks kind of stupid, but...

With all that said, I will stay optimistic and wait for the thing to actually release before I say anything definitive. Maybe Whedon can actually make it work.

I'm actually quite happy about the time skip. Gives the characters time to have handled much of the finding and the organizing of the new Slayers, which would have impeded any storylines that readers new to Buffy could follow, IMO. And do we REALLY want to watch Buffy and the gang explain to girl after girl after girl after girl after girl after girl... Bring on college-age Giant Dawn!

(And after a previous spoiler that would seem to relate to Giant Dawn's condition, what jenofthejungle said sounds REALLY REALLY wrong.)

I'm really only slightly disappointed that the timing is so far out there. I wanted to see Buffy and her army of Slayers show up at the end of NFA. I really did.
Oh well, there are plenty of other things to be jazzed about in this comic. Bring it on.

I am very curious now about what will be mentioned regarding season 5 of AtS. Although, I'm also curious if we'll learn anything at all. If Angel knows nothing about Buffy's true mission--is she paying that much attention to him? Curiouser and curiouser, as Alice would say. Can't wait!

I don't mind the comic moving ahead in time. It's a really different medium than TV & it will require a different structure. It won't be the same as the show, but as long as Joss is telling the story & writing the dialog, it's going to be great.
And I think Giant Dawn is wonderful example of totally comic-y & totally in character.

Timeline shmineline, Dawn alway seemed to be behind in school. 14/15 is usually freshman in High School and I think she was still in Middle/Jr High. Dawn also missed whatever year she was in in S7 on account of Sunnydale coming to an end. Everyone agreed she was book smart though, so maybe she just tested for her GED and went straight to college. It is not going to keep me up at night (I hope.)

Timeline's okay, much as I wanted to see Xander in Africa (if it was true). Which was mostly because of this awesome fanfic I read about him in Africa, which was really beautiful.

Anyway, my main thing...

Giant Dawn? The fuck? I'm not sure whether I want to laugh hysterically or scratch my head. May as well do both!

If one of the characters does not take the opportunity to call her Dawnzilla, I will be very disappointed in Joss!

It was Cordelia who said "Hey. If Sunnydale High School shuts down forever, do we automatically graduate?" (IOHEFY, season 2)
So maybe she was right and Dawn just graduated automatically.

I hope the timeline of the comic isn't after NFA, cause then we will only hear about what happened there from outside sources. I really hope the IDW thing won't be a big problem, Angel and Buffy were on different networks for a while and they made it work.

Actually that's the whole point. Andrew is supposed to lie about Buffy's whereabout. From what we know from the few pages we'e seen the whole decoy Buffy's was something that all the scoobies agreed to.

Excerpt from Buffy's narration in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer#1 - page 5 (transcribed in December from those preview pages):
The guys figured I was a three...set up two other slayers to be me. One's underground. Literally.
One's in Rome partying very publicly--and supposedly dating some guy called "The Immortal".
That part was Andrew's idea. He did research on the guy, said it would be hilarious for some reason.

Well if it is a West coast thing, that would make sense, cause...California. I have just always been familiar with the either K-5 or K-6 then 6-8 or 7-8 and 9-12. Back when I was in school 7 & 8 was called Jr. High. Now 6-8 seems to be middle school. Does that mean that in the system you discribe 10th graders are Freshmen, 11th are Sophemores and 12th are Seniors? (Because Juniors seem to be the logical one to leave out.) Kind of a bummer for 10th and 11th graders.
