(SPOILER) Joss' Geek Monthly interview (Part Two). In this second part of the interview, Joss talks about how the project started, explains the notion of 'comic book time' and tells what big things are in store for the Buffy characters…

Really big :) And, what the heck is a thricewise? I am soo looking forward to the comics.
Wow! Giant Dawn!
That's hilarious.
It's made my morning. Kudos to Geek Monthly, Joss and Georges for that.
I'd say that qualifies as a "huge" spoiler!
Spoiler tag? Check.

But just in case, I'll throw some Invisiotext in it

JOSS: (...)In fact, when I was talking to Marvel, I asked, “How long has Colossus been dead?” and they’re like, “Never say, because time doesn’t exist.” You could spend ten issues on something that happens in one night.

Giant Dawn. Sweet.
Poor Dawnie. She finally got her wish. Nobody can look at her as a little girl anymore. Too funny.
That's so bizarre. He wasn't kidding about the non-constraints of comic booking these characters. But it still seems too weird for me.
At least people will take her seriously when she says GET OUT! ;-)
I must say, my first glance at Big Dawn made me wince.
Not so large with the Giant Dawn? I love her, myself.
Yes,this would then have to be set after NFA.A year and a half would probably be like six months after the end of Ats.

Poor Dawn especially considering we have a pretty good hint at how this happened.
Wow, BIG spoiler ... so does she just have the one outfit? Because I would think that would be dull, except of course being in a dungeon drinking from barrels would get old too.
What would she eat! Maybe she'll experiment with being vegetarian. No more burgers indeed.
so does she just have the one outfit? Because I would think that would be dull,

Never got dull for Spike! At least not until season 5 or so...
I'm quite surprised that season eight is actually going to be set in a "season nine" time period, although I tend to think it makes a lot more sense. Rather than have to work around the details given about the various Scoobies during season five of Angel, Joss and the other writers are free to use the characters as they see fit.

It does beg the question of how much of the events of what would have been Angel season six will be mentioned. In fact, I wonder if Joss will even stick to those plans now? A post-apocalyptic style, demon infested L.A. would be equally as big news as Sunnydale being destroyed and hard to avoid mentioning so it could be that Joss has had other ideas about that. Nice to know that Angel, Spike and Illyria will be a lot more likely to show up now though. IDW allowing, of course.
I don't know how to do spoiler tags, but considering the Andrew/Immortal mention, I'm confused about what Numfar quoted.
Poor Dawn.

And that's really interesting about the timeline of this. I thought it was previously stated in an article that the comics would be picking up a few months after Chosen.
Must be Tuesday...lol. It actually reminded me of Alice in Wonderland. You know, when she eats the wrong thing and ends up big as the house and stuck inside...
Poor Dawnie!
Giant Dawn. Sweet. And hilarious and completely in character. Once again not listening to other people, especially her big sister Buffy, and not taking responsibility for her actions ("I didn't know .. ."). At least this time, she didn't get in trouble by running away yet one more time - or at least I don't think so based on the hints given to date.

Timeline -- I can see why there's the skip in time. It's more interesting to start the story with the gang and the organization all set up. Though,I hope we do get to see some of what went into setting up the organization and finding the new slayers. What about the new slayers that didn't want the power, did Willow do a spell that took away their power/calling? Did the spell only work once and doesn't affect potentials born after Chosen?

This is fun.
Hmm, I'm not sure I'm happy with what was unveiled in this part of the interview. Season 8 really should take place when the real Season 8 would. The power of BtVS was its ability to always (at least imo) make me completely understand what's going on in the characters' heads. This was accomplished through natural and gradual development of the characters. Skipping ahead a year and a half breaks that development which really worries me. BSG did this and, overall, I don't feel like it worked very well. I don't care for comics as it is, so I hope Whedon doesn't go overboard with ridiculousness. Big Dawn? On first glance it looks kind of stupid, but...

With all that said, I will stay optimistic and wait for the thing to actually release before I say anything definitive. Maybe Whedon can actually make it work.
I'm actually quite happy about the time skip. Gives the characters time to have handled much of the finding and the organizing of the new Slayers, which would have impeded any storylines that readers new to Buffy could follow, IMO. And do we REALLY want to watch Buffy and the gang explain to girl after girl after girl after girl after girl after girl... Bring on college-age Giant Dawn!

(And after a previous spoiler that would seem to relate to Giant Dawn's condition, what jenofthejungle said sounds REALLY REALLY wrong.)
I'm really only slightly disappointed that the timing is so far out there. I wanted to see Buffy and her army of Slayers show up at the end of NFA. I really did.
Oh well, there are plenty of other things to be jazzed about in this comic. Bring it on.
Poor Dawnie, how embarassing.

I am very curious now about what will be mentioned regarding season 5 of AtS. Although, I'm also curious if we'll learn anything at all. If Angel knows nothing about Buffy's true mission--is she paying that much attention to him? Curiouser and curiouser, as Alice would say. Can't wait!

You're not the only one Cheryl. You're not the only one.

what's a thricewise again? I'm not familiar with that word.

But I love giant dawn. and about the time-skip: backflash anyone? I'm not too afraid of th not-knowing.

She's Dawnie Kong - love the barrels.
what's a thricewise again? I'm not familiar with that word.

a thricewise - someone three times older? Just guessing.
She's Dawnie Kong - love the barrels.

For me, she is more like Gulliver in the land of Lilliputians. I hope they can use her new strength in the fight against evil :)

I didn't mean it that way! *blushing* I just meant that the imagery reminded me of Alice looking big and stuck in the house. I wasn't thinking about the reason she got that way.... *blushing many shades of pink* ...although there might be something to it.
Giant Dawn is the new Puppet Angel.:)
I figured you didn't. I just had to point that out. Because I have the maturity of a 14 year old. Or, it's just a basic human instinct :)
I'm just putting this out there in the ether--if I don't see "Giant Dawn" as a user name soon, I will be very disappointed in you lot.
I'm reasonably certain that thricewise is a new breed of demon that we didn't get to hear about on the show. I certainly have no recollection of the term being used before.

As for what jenofthejungle said, let what happened to Dawn be a lesson to all you girls (and maybe some of you guys too). Be very careful what you put in your mouth whenever you are dating somebody new.

That's what you meant, right, Jennifer? :D
*blushing VERY deep shades of red and pink now*

Well, it is what I mean NOW....lol!
How funny!! Poor Dawn though. I see getting older hasn't changed her status as a trouble magnet.

This spoiler raises more questions than it answers. How very strange of Joss.

That is awesome. Love the flow of the dialog. The art is stunning, too. It looks just like Trachtenberg. Now I know the artist I'm gonna try and get for my EUROTRIP comic.

I can't wait for this series, everything I've seen from it has been stellar.
I don't mind the comic moving ahead in time. It's a really different medium than TV & it will require a different structure. It won't be the same as the show, but as long as Joss is telling the story & writing the dialog, it's going to be great.
And I think Giant Dawn is wonderful example of totally comic-y & totally in character.
, let what happened to Dawn be a lesson to all you girls (and maybe some of you guys too). Be very careful what you put in your mouth whenever you are dating somebody new.

Sooo....it would probably be REALLY wrong now to make jokes combining all this with Dawn's "it was like a meat party in my mouth" line from S6 right?

Thought so.

Okay.

Then I won't;)
Well in other interviews,Joss said this begins a few months after Chosen.Maybe he changed his mind.
Didn't Dawn start high school in season 7?
It's not wrong, Ed. More.
Dawn was a freshman in season 6, as mentioned in "All The Way"
I hope she doesn't step on anybody.
So we're actually in season 10 then? well that does make sense, what with it being 10 years later..
Dude, I hope she steps on LOTS of people.
Now I'll just abuse on the quoting thing.

At least people will take her seriously when she says GET OUT! ;-)

You know what would be funny, if she got to spit fire like in "After Life".

Yes,this would then have to be set after NFA.A year and a half would probably be like six months after the end of Ats.

What would make Dawn 18 and they're in Europe. Why am I getting flashbacks from Eurotrip, now?

Wow, BIG spoiler ... so does she just have the one outfit? Because I would think that would be dull, except of course being in a dungeon drinking from barrels would get old too.

Maybe Willow got really good with enlarging clothes magically.

And while, now I'm kind of doubting Urkonn's words, maybe it'll be linked to the downfall of the watchers and how Mel got to be called in "Fray".

I'm really only slightly disappointed that the timing is so far out there. I wanted to see Buffy and her army of Slayers show up at the end of NFA. I really did.
Oh well, there are plenty of other things to be jazzed about in this comic. Bring it on.

As I must've posted before, that's how I always imagine that battle ending. It's so sweet in my mind.
And justify the definite move to Scotland as their homebase, and maybe there was actually some truth to little of what Andrew told us, by telling to the Fang Gang, during Angel S5. Maybe Will and Kennedy were really in Brazil, gathering slayers from Latin America, and Xander was Africa doing the same. One year half sound justifiable, especially now they got units with hundreds of slayers.

I hope she doesn't step on anybody.

Stepping on über-vamps, must be fun, though.
Our little Dawny is all grown up. *sniffle*

Except then when Andrew tells Spike in,"Damage" that Willow and Kennedy are in Brazil and Xander is in Africa,he then also tells Spike that Buffy is in Rome which we now know is false. If the other Scoobie locations are true then that would mean he only lied about the Buffy part.
Timeline shmineline, Dawn alway seemed to be behind in school. 14/15 is usually freshman in High School and I think she was still in Middle/Jr High. Dawn also missed whatever year she was in in S7 on account of Sunnydale coming to an end. Everyone agreed she was book smart though, so maybe she just tested for her GED and went straight to college. It is not going to keep me up at night (I hope.)
Timeline's okay, much as I wanted to see Xander in Africa (if it was true). Which was mostly because of this awesome fanfic I read about him in Africa, which was really beautiful.

Anyway, my main thing...

Giant Dawn? The fuck? I'm not sure whether I want to laugh hysterically or scratch my head. May as well do both!

ETA:

My friend just called her "Dawnzilla"!

If one of the characters does not take the opportunity to call her Dawnzilla, I will be very disappointed in Joss!

When "Giant Dawn" was first mentioned in the article, I assumed it was a joke about how MT is taller than SMG now.

Then I scrolled down.

I love Joss.

This is going to be so awesome.
It was Cordelia who said "Hey. If Sunnydale High School shuts down forever, do we automatically graduate?" (IOHEFY, season 2)
So maybe she was right and Dawn just graduated automatically.

I hope the timeline of the comic isn't after NFA, cause then we will only hear about what happened there from outside sources. I really hope the IDW thing won't be a big problem, Angel and Buffy were on different networks for a while and they made it work.
I like Kong Dawn myself. Has a nice ring to is

I've been posting here way too much the past few days.
Maybe she just told everyone she had graduated. It's not like they could check the school records.
This might be the wrong place to ask....but...did you all see that TFAW has the covers for #2 and #3 on the site? The comics are available for pre order, as well (Just in case you didn't subscribe ---but why wouldn't you???? LOL!). I just noticed. I wasn't sure if this was posted anywhere else!
Didn't Dawn's school thing make sense newCJ? I was under the impression Sunnydale was was on the jr. high/high school system instead of middle school/high school. The way they brake down as I understand it is K-6, 7-9, and 10-12. I'm not sure if this'd be a west coast thing or what.
Kong Dawn is really quite funny. Dawnzilla too.
As for Dawnie stepping on people, there are a few networks and Big movie corporations that come to mind. That isn't very nice is it?
Except then when Andrew tells Spike in,"Damage" that Willow and Kennedy are in Brazil and Xander is in Africa,he then also tells Spike that Buffy is in Rome which we now know is false. If the other Scoobie locations are true then that would mean he only lied about the Buffy part.
Buffyfantic | February 08, 00:11 CET

Actually that's the whole point. Andrew is supposed to lie about Buffy's whereabout. From what we know from the few pages we'e seen the whole decoy Buffy's was something that all the scoobies agreed to.

Excerpt from Buffy's narration in Buffy, the Vampire Slayer#1 - page 5 (transcribed in December from those preview pages):

I wanna read the excerpt, Numfar, but I can't. I am terribly tempted! Dang you!!!! AAARGH!! March needs to get here - and fast!!!

orangewaxlion | February 08, 06:31 CET"

Well if it is a West coast thing, that would make sense, cause...California. I have just always been familiar with the either K-5 or K-6 then 6-8 or 7-8 and 9-12. Back when I was in school 7 & 8 was called Jr. High. Now 6-8 seems to be middle school. Does that mean that in the system you discribe 10th graders are Freshmen, 11th are Sophemores and 12th are Seniors? (Because Juniors seem to be the logical one to leave out.) Kind of a bummer for 10th and 11th graders.
