Sarah Michelle Gellar is a sex symbol. Channel 4 in the UK ran a poll to find the 100 greatest sex symbols. SMG came in at number 16.

I find it mildly interesting that SMG is listed adjacent to, and just after Uma Thurman, who - regardless of her other stellar work - is notable for portraying another ass-kicking strong female character ("the bride" of Kill Bill 1 & 2.) Of course, Buffy came first.

(FWIW, I concur with ChrisinVirginia, but no stiffening by me for Gill's fave's.)

Good for SMG, nice to see her on there and comparatively high up too.

That said, there's the usual modern day bias and any list including Jordan and Abi Titmuss but missing Grace Kelly and Lauren Bacall is pretty suspect in my book.

(I mean Jordan ? Really ?)

I also suspect a list that includes Jessica Rabbit, Justin Timberlake, and Donnie Osmond over the very fine men and women of Buffy, Angel and Serenifly (excluding Sarah who was nominated).

I agree it was good to see someone from the Whedonverse getting a nod whatever their merits. Generally though, I was impressed by how profoundly unsexy I found most of those placed in the list. Those who voted seemed to go for the obvious and had sensuous and sexually blatant confused much of the time. I agree with some of the omissions suggested above and there are so many more I could suggest. Very odd.

I caught a bit flicking past and was like oooh, buffy, but that soon changed to pissed-offness when I heard what the idiotic talking heads were saying: "she's sexy because she spreads her legs" "men trick girls into spreading their legs by making them do action scenes with kicking."

I'm sure joss would be proud...
