I would really like to go to this. It is the Saturday before my birthday and I have not seen him do a solo performance. Now if I can just get a ticket...

I saw Ghost of the Robot at the Crazy Donkey when they were there a few years ago. That was just before they broke up. It was a Thursday night and it was pretty packed. I wonder what sales will be like this time.

newcj, I was there too! I really enjoyed the concert, and like you said, it was extra special in hindsight as the band broke up a little while after. Definitely going to the 8pm show! See some of you there!

Oh,how I wish I could be there! I've enjoyed hearing some of James' unrecorded songs at the last 2 events I went to...and I'll bet anything he's been busily writing new ones.The Crazy Donkey is a good venue for a solo performer because you get a good view from pretty much any location.

sueworld2003, I really WOULD get my ass kicked if I explained that in detail. Suffice it to say that my personal experiences with Mr Marsters have not led me to have a wholly positive opinion of him. That said, I imagine everyone who attends the concert will have a wonderful experience, and I wish them nothing but the same! :-D

I think Ozlady's comments are actor bashing. Mods, delete me if I'm out of line, here, by expressing my opinion about Ozlady's opinion.

If these kind of comments are allowed about actors/writers then I misunderstood the rules.

For example, if I said the same thing about Nathan Fillion that Ozlady did about JM would I get chastized? I would never do that because I happen to love NF (and all the actors/writers/directors/make up artists/janitors in Jossverse).

Is this the first solo gig that JM has done in the US in a club rather than at a convention? JM's tours in the UK have been a lot of fun and there's something about a " proper" music venue rather than a convention hall which just adds so much atmosphere.

Don't bash or rubbish actors or fans of actors here (even in jest). Now if we can back to the topic in hand instead of having some goddamn pissing contest I'd be very grateful. And if people carry on with "I just want to say this and I'll stop" etc, their posts will be negated.

I think you're right that this will be the first post-band US club gig he's done. It'll be interesting to see how it goes as I think clubs always have more atmosphere than even the best convention rooms.

The acoustics in convention rooms are rarely ideal and the sound systems aren't made for live music.
It was a real treat to hear him in places like The Fleece in Bristol and the Carling Academy.

I'm sure that everyone going to the Crazy Donkey will have a great time ... though 4PM is an unusual time for a gig :) I guess it has to fit round his commitments at the NJ convention.

debw - It's his first solo gig in the US in few years, but he use to play some local LA clubs back in the days when Buffy was still on. As I recall, 14 below was one of the clubs he use to play at.

Of course, thank you RavenU! He used to play solo in L.A. before GOTR. I should have remembered that *slaps forehead* I've seen some clips of him at 14 Below singing Nirvana and Tom Waits and Springsteen. He did those well.

His new material sounds really good live too.

I am sorry that my attempt at humor in regards to the name of the venue caused such a kerfuffle. I had no intention of commenting on it further and only replied to sueworld2003 (and in as polite and non-specific a way as possible) so as not to be rude by way of ignoring her. I have far too much respect for the moderators of this forum (and frankly, myself) to engage in any sort of name-calling and bashing, and if it appeared I was doing that while I was trying to be funny then, again, I am sorry. Also, again, I am very hopeful that everyone who attends the aforementioned concert has a lovely time.

And jletham, are you making a comment about my advanced age?!?! (YES, I am kidding!! ;-)

Hey! My friend who has just gotten up to Superstar in her BtVS/Angel watching thought going to this sounded like a great idea. Wow. It is taking me some time to get my mind around having a friend who is not a total stick-in-the-mud...as much as I treasure all my muddy footed friends. ;-)

4 PM *is* a strange time. My understanding is that he is only at the convention in NJ on Friday and Sunday. Though Long island is on the other side of NYC from where the convention is being held it is not all that big a deal to be there on a day when you don't have to be in NJ. I guess they decided to do the equivelent of a matinee and evening performance and are leaving the late show to someone else. Makes sense if he needs to be back in NJ early on Sunday.

Oops, I just realized I didn't respond to this.

I am really interested to see JM as a solo performer. I went to the late show of GotR that time with no expectations at all except to see how JM performed in front of a live audience. I knew very little about him and nothing about his fans or BtVS fans in general. It was interesting and I was glad I went. However, between the dynamics I saw on stage and what JM said at the convention the following weekend, I was not surprised to hear that GotR was breaking up. I also thought he had made the right decision to get out. Who knows, maybe I'll be at the 8:00 show this time too. I'm not the superstitious type, I do not think that will cause him to break up with himself a few days later. ;-)

I love seeing JM perform in a club setting. I've seen him in concert several times but only once in a club setting at the Carling Academy and enjoyed it the most. It seemed like everybody's energy levels were more intense at the club. I just think having the proper sound system, lighting and everybody on their feet, makes for a more enjoyable concert experience.

And thank you, Simon, for putting a stop to the JM bashing.

Does anyone else think that the concert will be a "kick-off" for a new CD? That would soften the blow of not being able to get there,if I thought there was going to be a collection of the new songs available soon. I'm hoping he has some more of those bluesy numbers ready for us.

Usually an e-mail to one of the mods will give you an answer to questions about why a post was deleted. My understanding is that it happens all the time for all kinds of reasons.

On their website it probably tells it's capacity, but it also has music that is hard for me to turn off here at work so I am not going there. My memory says, medium sized club. I am terrible at estimating how many of something there are, so I just have no clue how many people would be allowed into it.
