I'll have to pre-order the Firefly one FAR in advance.

Also Buffy is on Dark Horse Comics, not DC Comics.

ETA: Dark Horse have a press release out which has more info about the 2nd printing so I've changed the link to that.
I'll get back to you once I've figured out what a full bleed cover is. Answers on a post card to the usual address.

I almost bought the Jeanty varient, but I really didn't see why. Jo Chen rocks it, and I'm never going to sell my comic book collection, so I don't see owning a special cover as any type of investment. Of course, I own 9 issues of a 3 issue Serenity miniseries, but we all know that was a slightly different circumstance...

Well, since Diamond (the main comic book distributor) apparently accepted reorders yesterday from comic book stores, Dark Horse likely over-printed the issue, but still couldn't met up with demand.
Example, say Dark Horse got orders from comic book stores asking for 80,000 copies, so they add a buffer and print over 100,000 copies. Then Wednesday as the issue began flying off the shelves, comic book stores re-ordered the comic and claimed the remaining 20,000 extra copies (note the over-print may have been a lot smaller or bigger than that, I'm just making up the 20,000 number). At that point Dark Horse announced that they sold out. Note there might still be issues at certain comic book stores and more arriving next week, it's just that they sold out at the distributor level. With stores still asking for copies beyond what Dark Horse has over-printed, they are now going back to print.

Well...now I'm extremely depressed, but I'll be getting the new cover on the 28th.

Also, all being well, it's the week before issue 2 is released so folk aren't going to get out of step and there'll be no confusion on the shelves between issues (a definite possibility with simultaneous releases especially with variant covers etc.).

Oh, wait, it is.

I am so thrilled to see this issue sell out so quickly. It's a nice success story.

hacksaway, not necessarily. A re-print means all the copies have left the warehouses and there's still demand for more, it doesn't have to mean all the copies have left the shops so you could still get lucky if you have a Local Comic Shop to try.

ETA: I saw the new version of the first issue cover. It does look clearner, and I will be getting a copy of that, too.

I do find it interesting that TFAW is still taking pre-orders for the first printing cover at their website. I don't see how this is possible unless they ordered backups or are just waiting to send out "we're sorry to inform you..." e-mails later on. It seems that they wouldn't be able to take pre-orders on something that is technically sold out right?
RIPWesley | March 16, 04:07 CET
I'm surprised no one has mentioned the 3rd version of the cover from the first printings. There's an ultra rare Jeanty "pencils only" cover version. Expect those to be the most expensive. In fact, a quick search on ebay finds them going for as much as $70.
I will calmly (yeah right) wait until my order comes in the mail.

I overheard my comic book retailer speaking when I was in the store yesterday. Of the 100,000 (101,000?) copies Dark Horse printed, 70,000 were the standard cover, 30,000 the variant cover, and only 1,000 the third cover. Only 100 retailers around the world got copies with this third cover. My retailer was one. He's selling his ten copies for $50 each.
I don't really have $50 to spend on a comic I already own 2 copies of.
But I was sorely tempted, my brothers and sisters. Sorely tempted.
