(SPOILER) Jeph Loeb talks Buffy Season Eight on WordBalloon. Also talks about other comic book projects, and Heroes.

Okay, so I listened to it, and there's not much new info.
There isn't much about Buffy's Season 8 (his part won't happen for a while) but it is a very interesting interview about comic book fandom in general. Jeph Loeb has been writing for a long time and he really knows this genre, I'm going to really enjoy seeing what he does with Buffy!
Are there any Buffy S8 or 'Heroes' spoilers (beyond ep 1 and 18 respectively) ? I'd like to listen to it but me and spoilers, well, we don't get on (ever since that whole "Mulder's suicide" thing ;).

Yes Joss and Jeph are doing a special between Buffy and Heroes. the .the. I think it'll work. Expect official word from NBC and Dark Horse in two Sundays time.
I trust Joss completely, and every single person he's chosen for Season 8 is a little miracle... except for Loeb. Seriously, the man wrote "Onslaught Reborn".
I like Jeph Loeb, but he's heavy on the exposition, it was a nice touch for Batman: The Long halloween, but it got to be a bit much in his other works, esp. Batman/Superman, where both characters had separate narrations on the same page. But he's nothing compared to Brad Meltzer. I think brad's an excellent writer, and the humanization narration exposition thingie worked great in "Identity Crisis" but in his JLA book, its overkill.. the book is about larger than life superheroes, and his narration makes them way too human, esp. since they don't even call each other by their code names.., i really hope he doesn't use this on his arc on Buffy, the show was never about narration aside from episodes like "The Real Me" and "Storyteller"... i love how Joss managed to write Astonishing X-men without exposition, and relied in John Cassaday's artwork and dialogue between characters to convey the story.
The Comic Book Guide to Buffy the Vampire Slayer
'Hush' wasn't bad, wasn't as impressed by 'The Long Halloween' as almost everyone else seemed to be. I'm not really a huge Marvel reader though and apparently that's where he's done his best stuff.

Re: Buffy, after Joss, BKV's arc is probably my most eagerly anticipated, not just cos it's him but cos it's Faith too.

Cheers Simon, judging by the amount of inviso-text I guess i'm not listening to it then (or at least not for another couple of Sundays).
I'm a big fan of Jeph's,"Superman:For All Seasons."

Aye. The first of April. Stay tuned. Lalalalala ;).

I enjoyed Superman: For all Seasons and Hush as well. Cracking reads. I look forward to Jeph's take on Buffy.
I'm not a fan of Jeph--nothing he's written has really done it for me--but I still look forward to his work on Buffy. Because it's freaking Buffy.
If nothing he's written has every done it for you, wouldn't you rather he be nowhere near Buffy ? That's what I'd be saying if it was someone like...I'm trying to think of an awful comic book writer, but I've gotten pretty lucky at avoiding poor reading, so I can't think of any. Oh yeah, back then I wasn't usually very impressed with Scott Lobdell (though I did enjoy Age Of Apocalypse and he was the head of that, wasn't he?). But maybe he's improved since.

Actually, nevermind, complaining once the writing team has already been chosen doesn't really help or add any kind of constructive commentary, just satisfies one's own need to bitch.

I checked his credits. Stuff I've enjoyed of Jeph Loeb's includes...

The film Teen Wolf. Well, back then as a kid, who wouldn't like that? Not sure if it still holds up

Three of his four episodes of Smallville when I was still watching it before I gave up at the end of Season 4 and didn't feel the need for the guilty pleasure anymore (and realized it was gonna continue squandering its potential).

He wrote one of the most fun and HoYay-filled--"Red" from Season 2--as well as "Insurgence"--one of the better suspenseful Lionel eps--and "Unsafe", an Alicia Baker episode that was also a lot of fun and had me hating when they killed off that unconventional but interesting (compared to Lana and just about every other girl they tried to hook Clark up with) love affair.

His two Heroes episodes were great.

Was he only involved with Lost as a producer, or did he write a few eps too ?

I'm not sure whether I've ever read a Jeff Loeb comic book.

Shite. Totally missed that. First gowk of the year ;).

Yeah Kris, 'Red' was entertaining but though I liked Alicia I thought 'Unsafe'/'Pariah' (especially 'Pariah') had some holes. It's still squandering its potential, BTW, but i'm ... stuck, trapped by my completist craziness ;).

I'd describe his stuff as patchy but not a total loss. Willing to give him a chance (and if Joss is happy to let him loose on his pride and joy that says something I reckon).

(and no, I don't think Loeb wrote any 'Lost' episodes or rather, wasn't credited, doesn't mean he didn't do a polish pass, help break stories etc.)
Is it April yet.....No? Damn!
The link doesn't work for me, alas. Hopefully a temporary problem.

Yikes, I'm not crazy about what Simon invisotexted. Aside from that, I really look forward to seeing what Loeb does with Season 8 Buffy. Can't wait, actually.
