(SPOILER) Brian Lynch talks Spike and Angel. There's an exclusive look at Spike: Shadow Puppets and find out what it's like to work with Joss on the Angel season 6 project.

"After the Fall"? Dies.

Bah. Beat me by like 5 seconds. ;)
Jinx, touch wood ! (if no-one did white rabbits you're in trouble ;)

Broke my rule (largely because dingoes8's description meant I could just skim past the 'Shadow Puppets' stuff, so thanks for that, see not totally consigned to oblivion, i'll remember ;). Uh, oh, starting to get excited for this now and it's probably still months and months away. Shite.

(and "After the Fall" frikkin' rules as a title. That's a keeper IMO)

NRAMA: How do you and Joss go about plotting out the return of these (well, some of these) beloved characters? Who does what?
BL: Trading e-mails back and forth. I come up with an idea, he molds it into what is called a "good" idea, I work on it some more, he works on it some more...it's really fun. Basically it's like when I was younger playing with Spider-Man action figures, but I have Stan Lee playing right next to me.

;-). How very, very cool that'd be.
Bah. Beat me by like 5 seconds. ;)

Apparently Newsarama will be running a Joss interview today, so go for that one :).
Ok......I thought I was excited before about Season 6. Ive gone past bursting point now.

And I have a feeling that I may just burst with the Joss interview later!!!

And yes - "After the Fall" rocks monkey socks!

Which as we all know are the best socks of all:)
Oh excellent title!!!! I am really getting excited about Season 6 and as for Shadow Puppets.....I can't wait. Please...please come out for pre-order soon!!!!!!!
Didn't Peter David (Spike vs. Dracula) write a Star Trek book named After the Fall or something very similar? Or am I getting things mixed up?

I'm dizzy with anticipation, though. (Or is it the wind?)
This is just - neat.
Those preview pages look really great and the commentary from Lynch was pretty funny too. I also can't wait to see what news Joss has in store for us, hopefully a long running Angel series just like the Buffy one is turning out to be.
Okay, officially thrilled.

Not to mention that those previews, along with some excellent advice from some of my fellow Whedonesquers in a previous thread (cheers again, guys) has given me the push to check out some of the other IDW Angel titles as well.

Apologies in advance to both my other half and my bank account. This could be costly.

Yeah, he did though i've not read it (don't read media tie-ins as a rule but I did read 'Imzadi' also by Peter David and thought it was probably the best of the TNG books i've come across, really had a handle on the characters, especially Riker).

The title could mean a lot of things (Spring comes after Winter which comes after the Fall - in the US at least, over here we just call it Autumn - so it could be rebirth) but the 'fall' that leaps out at me is the fall from grace in e.g. 'Paradise Lost' (and some other book which escapes me right now, it's pretty famous though ;-). Which doesn't bode that well for Angel and the gang. Maybe they're getting kicked out of the 'City of' Angels ? Or maybe they're gonna have to start wearing fig leaves ?

(whatever it refers to though, it's very evocative, hope they keep it)

"Spring comes after the Fall..."

Saje, are you doing that thing where you block the season with the coldest months from your memory again? ;)
Well, strictly speaking Spring does come after the Fall, Winter's just in between that's all (he says, back peddlingly ;).

Ahem. Time for a bit of creative Trotsky-ing.

...

There. Seamless.

"After the Fall" - I just love that title, there's something very emotive about it.

'Shadow Puppets' looks better than I could ever have imagined and I have imagined that it would be pretty great.
Spring will come right after fall when this global warming thing has reached a certain point.
In some places, it already does. Not in Sweden, though. It did, however, come a bit earlier than usual. And winter was late, too.
Where are you guys reading "After the Fall"? Did I miss that in the article?
Here's the relevant text.

NRAMA: Following this 4-part tale, your next comic-book effort seems to be a dream gig for many people, and certainly for Angel fans: you're working alongside (figuratively, I mean, you're not crowding him at his desk) Joss Whedon and picking up Angel's story where it left off with the finale of the TV show. We’re talking about the project that’d had the working title of Angel: Season 6, a story Joss has dubbed “After the Fall.” How'd such a thing come about in the first place?

Thanks Simon! How did I miss that?
I have days like that. But I will say "Angel: After The Fall" has a nice epic feel to it (very Star Wars in fact). So even if it's an unofficial nickname, it's really me made look forward to the sixth season comic books.
The original name was ANGEL:SIMON RULES but if you want us to change it will oblige.
Saje - "There. Seamless."

Yep, in the Comedy Dave sense anyway, hehe.

Seriously, nice job of covering that up. Nobody will ever know. Unless they can read... ;)

Oh, and a hi to Brian. Good luck with the two new series, although I'm pretty certain you won't be needing it. :)
The original name was ANGEL:SIMON RULES but if you want us to change it will oblige.

Well I would be one up on Saje. But I wouldn't want people getting confused and thinking Simon Cowell was in it.
I thought the original title was ANGEL:DEAD AND LOVING IT.
Simon - "But I wouldn't want people getting confused and thinking Simon Cowell was in it."

What? You haven't heard? Simon, Paula and Randy are the new Circle of the Black Thorn. How else would Sanjaya last so long on the show?

Pure evil!
"After The Fall" could also refer to the fall of Lucifer: a fallen Angel.
Brian and Joss, I wish you much luck in the project! No. Not luck. It's not about luck. It's about imagination, isn't it? So I wish you both much imagination. Which also doesn't really make sense, since I already know you both have lots of it. So I wish you a wonderful collaboration and great success! I'll be looking forward to subscribing to and reading it when the time comes:)

And I also wish you both all the good stuff on your separate projects aswell, ofcourse.
Shadow Puppets looks sweet.
I'm hoping "After the Fall" refers to the fall of Los Angeles, since the TV Season Six was supposed to have taken place in a post-apocalyptic LA, right?

Hey Brian--you give good interview. Looking forward to reading your stories even more now.
Thanks for the link, Simon.

A tentative title and everything? Wicked fucking cool! I'm all grins and glowing.

Looking forward to it.
Spring will come right after fall when this global warming thing has reached a certain point.

See, i'm just ahead of my time, that's all. I dunno, pearls before bleedin' swine ... *mutters, grumbles* ;)

Yep, in the Comedy Dave sense anyway, hehe.

'Spring' makes me think of Zebedee from 'Magic Roundabout' whose name starts with 'Z' which, in the phonetic alphabet, is 'Zulu'. Who overwhelmingly outnumbered the South Wales Borderers at Rorke's Drift, 1879. In exactly the same way as Angel and the (remaining) Fang gang were outnumbered in the alley north of the Hyperion.

See ? Stands to reason dunnit ? Nothing tedious about it ;-).

Well I would be one up on Saje.

Steady, no need for that, i'll cast a spell or something (albeit in a language I still don't understand). Then where will you be, eh ?
Okay, I'm impressed. Even Moyles himself couldn't dispute that link. ;)
Great article. I was already excited about both Shadow Puppets and the new Angel series, now I'm even more so. Loved the preview pages. I was immediately transported back in that universe.

Congratulations, Brian. You're a show runner!
Ooh, check out Brian and his fancy new purple pants !

Congrats man, you've made it to The Show. In Whedonesque terms anyway ;).
Great interview Brian, and the preview pages are great. Especially glad that Spike wants to be the main man and not the side-kick anymore. His reference to Buffy is also funny, i do think that they had a good working relationship as seen in season7. I wonder who that hot babe is on the cover with Spike?
About a month or two to go, before this series starts.
