Buffy Book News: "The Deathless" has been released (also out in UK). Upcoming Buffy novel, "One Thing or Your Mother" has had its cover art released. And there is a new interview at SlayerLit with Nancy Holder where she talks about her past writing. Asked 'Where do you see the Buffy line going in the next few years?' She only responds 'At least we have Joss's Season Eight comics!' Also for those who still have yet to try the superb "Go Ask Malice" find some previously unlinked reviews: here and here.

It's still looking like the future of these novels rests on shaky ground. It will probably depend on how the newer novels sell.

Has anyone read "The Deathless" yet?

Don't forget that Chris Golden's new Buffy novel Dark Congress is due out later this year as well, and let me tell you it's a doozy! AND it can be pre-ordered at Amazon WITH The Deathless at a nice little discount!

Well according to a comment made on her blog back last month, Nancy Holder said:

Hi, I’m so sorry to say that I won’t be writing any more Buffy unless someone else picks up the license. There are no more books planned via Simon and Schuster. I can’t begin to tell you how sad I am.

There has been no official announcement yet from either Simon & Schuster or TCF as to whether or not the Buffy book license is being allowed to lapse. That rumor has been floating around for at least a year, and while some authors have heard the franchise is coming to an end, others say they've heard nothing concrete about it.

S&S is curtailing the publication schedule of the novels, down to an average of only three per calendar year. Whether or not One Thing or Your Mother next January is the last one from this publisher remains to be seen.

Personally, given the success of the BtVS comic book, I'd have to think that another publishing house would be interested in picking up the book rights should S&S relinquish them.
