The Grey's spin-off really needs a new name. "Private Practice" just doesn't cut it for me. It's too similar to "The Practice". I read somewhere that the title was "Oceanside" and I like that a little better, except it tells you nothing of what it's about.

On the other hand, glad kudos are being given to Angel. As good spinoffs go, our favorite fanged wonder was definitely the leader of the pack. :)

It's an idea that's pretty current in the UK at the moment with spin-offs from 'Doctor Who', 'Spooks', 'Life on Mars' and even a spin-off from a spin-off called 'Holby Blue' (spun-off from 'Holby City' which was spun-off from 'Casualty' a long running hospital drama). All, presumably, to avoid the risk of the new. Quite right too, heaven forbid we should actually seek out original ideas for TV programmes. Sigh.
(I think 'Angel' stood on its own quite quickly, mainly because the tone and noir framework were established so early but definitely by 'Sanctuary' with Angel and Buffy butting heads - and Angel being completely in the right IMO - we're absolutely certain it's its own show)

I know I was supposed to vote for Angel, but I didn't. Sorry. I loved Daria. My dad and I would watch it together. It was his way of bonding with his teen daughter. Besides, I'm only half way through S4 of Angel. *nervous chuckle*

They are doing a spin-off of Holby City? Which is basically just an excuse to have two hours of dull hospital drama on the BBC a week. And the spin-off (according to a quick Google rather than me actually having any real interest) is going to be a police drama, which looks for all the world like the BBC decided that they needed a Bill of their very own. Wow, throw in the likes of Heartbeat and it's hospital spin-off, The Royal, and you can really see originality at work, can't you?
Mind you, with the wave of Law and Order and CSI spin-offs that are churned out every single week in the US I suppose you can't blame the BBC and ITV creative sorts for lacking anything remotely creative in their ideas. What's that? A hospital spin-off of Coronation Street is in the works, you say? A new show set in a police station in Emmerdale? Sounds wrist-slashingly entertaining. And then people wonder why I stick to the likes of Lost, BSG and Heroes for my television viewing pleasure.
