Impatient? You can now pre-order the 'Serenity' collector's edition DVD. When it was posted here the other day that a 21 August release date had been set for the Serenity Collector's Edition DVD, many posters noted the pre-order link didn't work. It does now, with a listed shipping date of 19 August.

Meanwhile, a commenter on the earlier thread posted what appeared on DVD Talk's forums purporting to be the list of special features (it appears to be a combination of the US features, the Australian features, the new cast commentary, and the R. Tam Sessions), although I don't know if the list is confirmed.

done and done, thanks, bix! [=
Thanks for the link, I've put in my pre-order: it is worth it just for the cast commentary!
As a side note, it seems to only work for US and possibly Canadian costumers.
Didn't find option for pre-order from outside of the North America.
It's probably nothing, but the site didn't go secure when my credit card information was requested. Simon, would you check into this site please?
Any word on when the HD-DVD version will be released?
For those who don't want to bother, here's that list:

Bonus Material:
- Deleted Scenes with Commentary by Joss Whedon
- Extended Scenes
- Outtakes
- Take A Walk On Serenity
- The Green Clan
- Joss Whedon Intro
- We'll Have A Fruity Oaty Good Time!
- Feature Commentary with Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau and Ron Glass
- Feature Commentary with Joss Whedon
- A Filmmaker's Journey
- Future History: The Story Of Earth That Was
- Re-lighting The Firefly
- What's In A Firefly?
- Session 416
- Sci-Fi Inside: Serenity

That's quite a combination of features. Some I recognize from the Australian set, but the "Fruity Oaty Good Time"... is that the Easter Egg from the original DVD? And the "Sci-Fi Inside" thing; guess that's from the Sci/Fi Channel. If all that is included, I'm definitely looking forward to this! :)
Well, let's see if we can break this down based upon that uncomfirmed list.

US and Oz DVDs:
- Deleted Scenes with Commentary by Joss Whedon
- Outtakes
- Joss Whedon Intro
- We'll Have A Fruity Oaty Good Time!
- Feature Commentary with Joss Whedon
- Re-lighting The Firefly

Oz DVD:
- Extended Scenes
- Take A Walk On Serenity
- The Green Clan
- A Filmmaker's Journey
- Future History: The Story Of Earth That Was
- What's In A Firefly?

Neither US nor Oz:
- Feature Commentary with Joss Whedon, Nathan Fillion, Adam Baldwin, Summer Glau and Ron Glass
- Session 416
- Sci-Fi Inside: Serenity

Collector's Edition:
- all of the above

Is that right?
It's probably nothing, but the site didn't go secure when my credit card information was requested.

Erm, yes it does. It goes https when it asks for shipping/billing addresses and contact info, and it remains https when it asks for credit card information, and it remains https when it goes to the receipt page.
Good eye, Bix, on both the list and the site functions.
I've preordered... the price is what convinced me! :)
Perhaps so, theonetruebix. Please forgive me, just being cautious for the room.
Thanks, B!X, I put it in my favorites and forget to click it.

Hope we really do get both commentaries...and great NEW KEY ART...please...

Love ordering at least one direct from Universal!
Now all Universal has to do is let us pre-order Serenity 2 theater edition.

Some nostalgia from my archives, courtesy of a one-time Photoshop job.
Oh how I miss that website!
Ordered!
yay!
I just received my order confirmation. Now I just wait around and see whether Uni's August date or the NY Times' July date is correct. Heh.

It would be interesting if someday we find out how many pre-orders Universal Home Ent. itself got for this.
Aww, bix, I actually tried to scroll down for a second. Hey though, wasn't Haken always one of the top two?

Anyhoo, thanks for that...

The part I can't show you (although I archived this so I actually do have it) is the thread I opened up after creating that image, where people could "donate" their leftover points toward that goal. Heh.
Cheaper at DeepDiscount by several cents, plus, free shipping. DeepDiscount used to be called DeepDiscountDVD:

Maybe, but I like the premise of letting Uni itself see pre-order numbers right off the bat. ;)
I confess that I was also happy to pay slightly more to have Universal see that there are fans who are still all over this! I can't believe that there is a Fantasic 4 sequel (that did not do very good in the box office), but we can't get one for Serenity!

It made $330,000,000 worldwide at the box office. Serenity took in just over a tenth of that (going by what Box Office Mojo says).
Plus, like Hulk before it, Fantastic Four killed in the merchandising department.
Plus, like Hulk before it, Fantastic Four killed in the merchandising department.

Both of which are properties which have very longstanding recognition, so it might not be fair to directly compare these properties to Serenity.
I got a piece of paper with Serenity DVD Collector's Edition on it and an order number. Whoo-hoo! I picked standard shipping because I know I'll be buying at least a couple more in stores. Christmas presents!

MySerenity,

Have you been over to http://www.serenitymovie.org

Setting aside the unfortunate imagery that first part brings up, that board is not the same as the old board. In fact, except for what was frantically rescued, the UB no longer exists in any form. The once-called "gossiboard" was the replacement, but it was built fresh, from zero.
Maybe I should have said Universal let him have the URL name? Universal could not let him have the members list because of privacy issues. There was a link to that archive for a very long time there but gossi had to take it down disk space I think.
I bet he still has a backup of it somewhere.

I think the Universal let the Aussie Browncoats have their URL name too.
The UB was at serenitymovie.com, which still exists. The replacement boards are at the serenitymovie.org domain. (What they DID do was point the "join the Browncoats" link on serenitymovie.com to the replacement boards.)
