(SPOILER) 'That part is basically written for her.' Producer Josh Friedman explains how he cast Summer Glau for The Sarah Connor Chronicles, the Terminator spin-off series. Spoilers abound.

I love Summer. I tried casting Summer [before]; this was probably four years ago. The last pilot that I did, which never went anywhere, I had hired the same casting agents as Joss [Whedon] had. So they brought Summer in one day, and I fell in love with her. And I tried casting her, but I was in second position to Serenity, the movie. [...] And then obviously I saw her in Serenity and thought she was perfect in it and always kept her in mind. And like Lena, there was really no second choice. That part is basically written for her.

"Damn you, Joss Whedon!"

Well, great minds know talent when they see it. Joss recognized her first with "Waiting in the Wings", one of my favorite episodes.
Actually Jeph Loeb recognized her first as mentioned in the commentary for Waiting in the Wings. So that is something else we can all thank the great Mr. Loeb for.
Ahh, I stand corrected. Thanks.
Man I love Josh Friedman, ever since the days of 'Motherf*cking Snakes on a Motherf*cking Plane.' I think I shall now have to say 'Damn you Joss Whedon!' on a regular (but random) basis.
I'm still waiting for the "Damn you, Joss Whedon!" t-shirt to go on sale.
i totally want one of those.
