Dark Horse's Serenity lunch box cancelled? A products/shipping update over at MillarWorld mentions the following: "The Lunchbox Serenity (MAY070071U) has been cancelled".

Curiously the item is still listed at the Dark Horse site but it does not appear on the site's release schedule and can not be found using the site's search engine.

Huh...

I went to Dark Horse's Site, and it's not in their Inventory.

Several Retail Sites still list it as available for preorder, but some (Alter Ego Comics, for one)say "not currently available".

Time to say "Uh-Oh".... among other things.

In Serenity lunchbox thread at www.serenitycollectors.com that says

I was talking with my dealer and she said that the lunchbox was cancelled. Can anyone confirm this? Something about not getting the rights for Fruity Oaty Bar??????????

Universal doesn't have total rights to everything in Serenity?

I pre-ordered this item from my comics supplier, Westfield Comics, several months ago, and on my most recent statement, received a full refund, with the note "Item cancelled by publisher/distributor." They gave me my money back! I, of course, would much rather have the lunchbox... Maybe it'll be resolicited? This sometimes happens; the item is "cancelled", because of a production or delivery delay? Or am I well in to the realm of Browncoat Wishful Thinking?

They do, but could charge extra for it, which would make things not profitable. Really, though, I've no idea.

Suffice to say, this is not going to make my day bad. But they're still many hours left for other things to go wrong -- gotta think positive, after all.

I have the PERFECT solution.

Simply print up the picture of the lunchbox as it should have looked, glue it onto your standard Walmart lunchbox, and cover with clear gloss spray.

There you have it- a genuine Serenity Lunchbox!

Bummer! I've got this pre-ordered too.

And that makes two "coming attractions" that we promoted at our CSTS screening that didn't come to pass as advertised. First there was the "Drive" burnoff that was supposed to be yesterday but was moved to the 13th, and now the lunchbox. Grr argh.

Pure speculation: It may be that Universal licensed the Fruity Oaty Bar image to a T-shirt company and Dark Horse isn't allowed to use it on the lunchbox. Maybe based on pre-order interest, DH will go ahead with a lunchbox with another image soon, like a cast photo.

Hope they didn't get stuck with any production which would probably discourage them.

Ok, here's the word from Dark Horse:

The lunchbox indeed has been cancelled (they didn't go into the reasons why), but they are still looking at offering some version of one at some point down the road.

So don't give up on the notion of actually having a Serenity lunchbox. They just have to take another look at it.

I just got an email from TFAW and they are not cancelling the preorders yet. They said they have not heard anything from their distributors and are taking a "wait and see" attitude. So maybe this is just a big hoax.

Why can't things ever go smooth...
