Angel Season 6 at Comic-Con. On Friday at Comic-Con, there's an IDW Publishing Panel which will have "an overview of... upcoming projects, including an "Angel: Season 6" comic by Joss Whedon and Brian Lynch".

Thanks Simon! That's great. According to Chris Ryall and Brian Lynch on the IDW forums, they will be announcing the cover artist for Angel:Season 6, and according to Brian- "I would bet when you see the cover to ANGEL # 1 you're all gonna want it as a poster. I mean, I do."

So excited!
I noticed this in the schedule, and had already made it a red letter item in my calendar for Comic Con! I'm very excited about getting to see Brian Lynch, even if it isn't to share peanuts in the lobby....
Wonderful news ! Wish I could be there. Have a great time, embers.
I hope you guys can all come. But it ain't called SEASON 6. We went with a more dramatic name.

It's not really a season as it's not a bunch of smaller stories, but one gigantic, epic tale.

So let's officially put SEASON 6 references to bed, all hail ANGEL: THE THING THAT JOSS CALLED IT AT NEWSARAMA!
Hey, Brian. Thanks for the information. Sounds like the best idea considering the story you want to tell.

I still have my fingers crossed that this will follow the same pattern as Buffy Season 8 and go from a set number of issues to being a pretty much unlimited ongoing series, sales being what I imagine they will be.

Having said that, continuing the story of Angel and his team may work better in more limited series anyway. 12 issues telling the immediate events that happened after the alley as planned could be volume one, followed up by a second 12 issue series telling another story and so on. Not "seasons" but rather arcs. Maybe I'm just being greedy but with Buffy's series seeming to be going on indefinitely I'd like to see Angel's story go on for as long as possible too.
If this turns out HALF as awesome as Buffy has been, I'm going to be so very happy! I had given up on the IDW comics a while ago... Then I read the first few issues of Asylum. Great stuff!

So Brian, I have faith that you and Joss will come up with something great! Please don't let me down! ;)
So it's likely "Angel: After the Fall"?
Maybe the title should be: "Angel: Joss said this is totally canon"?
So long as it's not official canon.

Liked 'After the Fall' the first time it appeared, still don't hate it. Wonder if there'll be any mention of dates at Comicon ?
Haha, embers.

So, Brian, what's it like working with Joss?
I think there will be mention of dates, yes. For instance, my fiancee and I have a date at the Eisner Awards later in the evening, so I'll be talking about that a lot at the panel.

Seriously, we'll have a ton of info for you, along with some awesome, you know, visuals. I implore all of you guys to get the word out to all ANGEL fans, we won't let you down.

I must say, I'm kinda glad it's not ANGEL: SEASON 6 when all is said and done, because the storyline feels like one big movie. Or two movies. Well, three movies, like that trilogy about the rings. Only without the nineteen endings, and (slightly) less homoerotic.
Damn. No hobbits. My Angel Not-Season-Six fanfic is ruined.

BAWAAAAWAA...well, as long as it's only VERY slightly less homeoerotic.

Seriously though Brian, I hope that you and IDW will just maybe, pretty please, consider keeping the story going beyond 12 issues. Even if you have to come up with another catchy title for the next 4 or 5 uhmmmm.... movies. I'm sure you will have lots of fans ready and willing to shell out our hard earned cash for them.
Woo! Very interested to see this poster-worthy cover art. And, you know, the comic.
"So long as it's not official canon."

For the love of all that is Whedony, don't go there, Saje. Last thing we need around here is that debate again. ;)

Like I said further up, if this story is going to have a definite beginning, middle and end over a specific number of issues then calling it a "season" doesn't really work as well as with the Buffy series. Definitely better to call it a canon, comic-based movie event type thing.

The first in a ongoing series of canon, comic-based movie event type things... ;)
Only slightly less homoerotic that LotR? That means it's pretty homoerotic.

Which is fine by me.

And I love the idea of one big epic story.
I think it should be called ANGEL: the Big Damn Story or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying And Love the Alley.
LotR was homoerotic ? Next you lot'll be claiming the beach volleyball scene in 'Top Gun' may not have been entirely necessary to the plot. Or that suddenly Rocky and Apollo can't frolic platonically in the waves together the way all boxers everywhere have done since time immemorial (they were celebrating, 'K !).

When will this deconstructivist madness end ?

I think there will be mention of dates, yes. For instance, my fiancee and I have a date at the Eisner Awards later in the evening, so I'll be talking about that a lot at the panel.

Need ... sides ... unsplitting. Please ... call ... 911 (then hangup and call 999 because 911 won't work over here). Dude, you should totally write comics or something ;).
Saje - reminds me of the new emergency services number bit in 'The IT Crowd' (the infamous 0118 999 881 999 119 7253 advertisement).
I am so much more excited about this comic! I don't care if it's official canon or not, I just want more Spike!! Also looking forward to the 2nd issue of Shadow Puppets. Thanks Brian!!
Heh, not seen that zeitgeist but I dunno what's funny about it, that number is the first thing I think of in an emergency (OK, after "Am I wearing clean underwear ?").

(I was reading the phone book the other day* and found '112' is an alternative emergency number which is apparently internationally recognised in Europe, including the UK, and which I had never, ever heard of. See, and people think reading the phone book is a waste of time)

* not all of it obviously. I skipped the boring letters
Not trying to start a debate here, but do we have any word on whether this will be "official canon?" Also, how is "official canon" different than just plain old canon?
Well, "official cannon" appears in 'Spike: Shadow Puppets'. Our eponymous hero mentions how much he hates it.

In comparison, "plain old canon" is much plainer and older.

(AFAIK, 'Angel: Season-not-even-an-even-number-it's-that-far-from-6' is totally and utterly canon being as how it's Joss overseen. But if an argument breaks out you didn't hear it from me ;)
Lowly words cannot express how excited I am about this project. Oh boy. Oh boy! I miss AtS so much, to think of its cancellation still makes me furious and heart-achey. (I say that as someone who loved Don't Fade Away as I have loved no other TV series finale.) Can't wait to find out what the "epic movie(s)" will be called. For that matter, has it come out anywhere what BtVS S8 is being called? Have I somehow missed the boat on that one?
I reckon the easiest way to avoid the whole canon/official canon/personal canon debate is just establish a little something called Whedon-canon. That being anything Joss says is canon actually is canon regardless of individual fan feelings towards a specific format of storytelling.

Don't think the official comics matter because the only true "canon" part of the story is what you see on television? Overruled! Whedon-canon!

See how easy that was? Now there is absolutely no chance of any further canon/not-canon arguments breaking out. Everyone can live peacefully, safe in the knowledge that Whedon-canon is in place.

Riiiight...

Joking aside, this Angel series will be showing events after Not Fade Away according to how Joss says they went down. It being his little universe, I take that as canon.

Assume you are joking, but that Whedon-canon you defined is just plain canon.
Yep, joking, just on the right side of sarcasm without being rude to anyone who doesn't already think that what Joss says is canon actually is canon by default.

Plus, Whedon-canon sounds kinda cool. :)
