Joss' dinner auctions net more than $52,000.
The mystery now? Who is suzbrock*123 -- the bidder who won two dinner seats? (Meanwhile, combined with the other items up for bid, the entire auction brought in nearly $62,000.)

Case in point:
"I could imagine writing an episode of Firefly -- Joss Whedon's new SF show. Except now it's been canceled -- what a shame."
and "Right now my biggest heroes are Aaron Sorkin, Joss Whedon (I just finally started watching Buffy on DVD. Boy, Whedon can really write!)..."

Someone who's looking to make up for not buying me a birthday present, I hope...
kishi | July 13, 11:51 CET
It would have been sadder if he/she accidentally won two auctions and couldn't afford to pay for them both, as suzbrock apparently can.
I wonder if she's going to clone herself.

This random geek moment was brought to you by Insomnia. May not cause drowsiness.
Seriously, that's an AMAZING final total. I hope everyone at the dinner (Joss included) has a fantastic time.

It was all for charity.
She never arrived.
We still have her food.

Joss--You are helping a ton of people and supporting your fans, you rock. I still think you should do the Gene Wilder, "cane stuck in the ground somersault thingy" though.
(Poor Suz Brockman is going to either blow up like a blueberry or fall into a pile of bad eggs!)

In a "when worlds collide" kind of thing, if in fact it IS Suzanne Brockman who won the dinners, the people who have run some fan-related events for her are none other than EMA Hollywood aka Events by Maya and (our very own) Allyson Beatrice, author of Will the Vampire People Please Leave the Lobby? Nifty huh? :-)

Now, this would have to be cleared by the whedonesque ptb as well as the main ptb himself. And we have to be polite (not that we aren't, but just saying), and Joss has to answer seriously, even while quipping crazy. Whatdyathink, guys? :-) :-)

Don't know they won and therefore we can somehow (lemme think, lemme think) finagle it away from them? In the spirit of fair play and good fellowship!
Although, honestly, if I won I might lay low and come out only after the dinner, to avoid the inevitable spotlight and/or pressure from Big Honkin' Joss-Fans.

Yes, I think the 100th comment by that Bastion of Erudition should be etched onto a bronze plaque, to preserve for ALL TIME just what Joss's writing is at its most articulate and moving.
(And to be waved in front of him at the most embarrassing possible moments.)

That kind of dosh tends to make one a little, um, inarticulate.
No wonder everyone, Joss included, has been reduced to netspeak.
Congratulations to the winners (EN being the biggest winner of all) and commiserations to the losers.
I am suddenly valuing Joss's FREE drinks party in Sydney a hell of a lot more!
I wonder if Joss is going to start carrying a cash register when dining with his family and friends so he can shout "KER-CHING- you owe me 10 thousand smackers!" at the end of every meal...
missb | July 14, 07:57 CET
I had forgotten about this. Stop rubbing the salt in my wounds! ;)
theonetruebix | July 14, 08:27 CET
Hmm, now where have I heard THAT line before? ;-)
missb | July 14, 08:43 CET
If we say 1 hour per episode that gives 145 for Buffy, 110 for Angel, 14 for Firefly and we'll throw in .5 for The Office.
This adds up to 269.5 Hours. So $61,716.84/269.5 =$229.00/hr.
Was this what was wanted??
MrsSmith | July 14, 10:10 CET
