TFAW shows cover(s) for Angel: After the Fall #3 - AtS

I really don't know what to think of these covers.

Okay, I loveLOVELOVE that you-know-who is still with us (as if there really was ever any doubt). But I'm not really blown away by the art of either cover.

You guys are trippin' to the max hardcore 3000 and beyond with extra cheese. Franco's cover is awesome, and the painted one is evil and moody and suhwheet. Off my Christmas list, the lot of you! I was giving Spike-shaped fruitcakes!

I think I like the more paint effect version more myself. Has a dark quality to it.

hmmmm ... think I like the second one best ... but is that Angel she has on the ground??? And Brian ... sorry you feel that you have to take us off your Christmas list ... but at least you weren't giving out Angel-shaped fruitcakes. Then I'd be really bummed. ;)

Give me back my Wesley, and let him continue saving Illyria (but make sure it's a worthy return, that's earned, not just given away for the sake of having him back), and I'll say I love both covers.

The first one reminds me of an Elseworlds Superman cover (whose name escapes me) and the art does not gel with me at all. But I like the second one. Not sure about Illyria's flares though.

I like Illyria in the second one--that's how I picture her. In the first one she doesn't have her trademark high & mighty look--she's too emotional. And she kind of looks like a biker chick. (Nothing against biker chicks--just not very Illyria-like to me.)

I don't mind Urru's cover- although Angel may have to make do with his Italian motorbike jacket now that his coat has been ruined... again.

Not trippin' on Robinson's cover, though. Can't put a finger on why, maybe the representation is just a little too un-Illyria like for my fancy. The dragon reflection adds a nice touch, though!

I really like the Urru Cover, it very nicely captures Illyria's character. Notsomuch with the first one; uncharacteristically expressive.

Sorry guys. Brian Lynch or no Brian Lynch, neither of those covers is good. Not only style and composition, but art. I've seen Robinson do better covers, so I know that it's possible for me to like his artwork. But this time? Not so much...

I like the Urru one, too, but the other one does not seem Illyria-like to me...doesn't have her distinctive stone-y quality. Or has Illyria been changing...?

I like them both a whole lot. And I'm so glad we're going to get some Illyria! The first one seems a bit out of character for her, but maybe it means her character is adapting to being in a sort-of human body, with the emotions and whatnot. I'm really looking forward to this series.

Does Illyria have big, um, boobies on either of those pictures? Maybe sorta on the one where she's got the ax above Angel, but she's arching her back and twisting herself, they're not big.

The other pics I've seen Franco draw of Illyria are definitely not ample-boobied, this I know.

EDIT: I just looked at all the other Franco-drawn Illyria pics, just to be sure, and rest assured, she's Ackerate. Acker-accurate? She's Amy Accurate? Dammit, she looks like Amy Acker all around!

The Richardson cover has got a bit of a nice vibe, at least for me, but I haven't been digging most of the Urru aren't we've been seeing for the series. A notable exception being his fantastic cover to #1. I don't know why, but his art just seems a bit sloppy to me.

Brian...I would love to remain on your Christmas list...

Huh. Me likey the both, actually, though did anyone else think "Off with his head!" for the Urru one? It gave me the giggles (maybe not the intended effect, but it's my brain, what am I gonna do). Her lips are all pursey, like she's deeply contemplating the separation of Angel's head from his body ... or maybe just wondering where the Dustbuster is for the untidy aftermath.

Re: the first, I guess Blue didn't get the memo that the dragon is Angel's pal -- or is the somewhat sinister juxtuposition of blade and reflection simply for effect? Hmm. Personally, I don't have a problem with her show of emotion. She lost her strongest human link to the world (and her true love?); girl's got a right to get her rage on.

Wiseblood Given the alternate cover for #1, in which as you said it appears that Dragon boy may be on Angel's side, Illyria's taking on the dragon is certainly intriguing.
Either Illyria's turned rogue, or she is under the impression that Angel has. And who could possibly talk her out of that notion? Speaking of pets, which we weren't, where the bloody hell is Spike??!

Oh and Brian, where do I send my details to facilitate Xmas delivery of my Spike fruitcake? Would that come with a side order of Dru fruitcake as well? Because that would be... fitting...

Really like the Urru cover, but the other one . . . no, not so much.

So far I've liked one cover for each Angel comic, which is fine and, to be fair, pretty much the same as the Buffy comic. The only difference is that Jo Chen is consistently better than everyone else. Hope she gets to do some Angel covers.

I'll have to look at these again in a couple days when I haven't JUST checked out Buffy #10's cover and see how I like them then. They're suffering from unfair comparison at the moment.

However, we're also spoiled by other brilliant comic cover artists, such as James Jean, Tim Bradstreet, Greg Land, Matt Wagner, Tim Sale, Ashley Wood, Lee Bermejo, Marko Djurdjevic, John Van Fleet, Bruce Timm, Jock, Mike Huddleston, Michael William Kaluta, Mike Mignola, Dan Brereton, Adam Hughes, Alan Davis, Bill Sienkiewicz, Jason Pearson, Steve Dillon, John Bolton, John Cassaday, Glenn Fabry, Joshua Middleton, Michael Avon Oeming, Tony Harris, Chris Bachalo...

You get the idea. Lots of fantastic cover artists in the comics industry. And that includes Andrew Robinson, any other time than this apparently. Sorry, just not loving either of these, even Robinson's.

Oh, yeah, the covers. I'm not too sure about the first one. And I love the second one. But it's almost obvious from these covers that Illyria has probably either returned to the side of her that's used to killing everyone that didn't bow before her or whatever they did (at least they didn't get naked and let her eat them!... I don't think...) or she has gone completely insane. Just a theory. An educated theory.
