(SPOILER) Salon.com Asks Whether Southland Tales is the Next Great Cult Film. This video review discusses the evolution of the film from its initial cut screened at Cannes and shows a little footage. Be sure to read the full written review, if only to learn that "the fourth dimension is collapsing on itself, bitch."

Why is it staring The Rock? I hate The Rock.

Don't they know that?
Well, my ex-wife hates Wallace Shawn. (Except on a sitcom I don't think I've seen ol' Dwayne as an actor yet, just as a wrestler. And please nobody list the movies he's been in, I know what most of them a re and haven't seen them yet.)

I know I've been out of teh loop my entire life but what is suggestive about the name "Pilot Abilene" anyway? I know there are towns with that name in Texas and Kansas, named afetr a region in 1st Century Syria. There's a pretty song about it which I like. And that a certain idiot-in-management-guru's-clothing did a worthless "educational" short film called "The Abilene Paradox" which I've been forced to sit thru at least twice.
But I know of no connection to pilots nor of anything suggestive about it.
DCA: I think it is a reference to the fact that the story starts with a nuclear bomb being dropped on Abilene, Texas.
This has a lot of potential to be a "cult" film. Richard Kelly's Donnie Darko has a pretty huge underground following, me included.

I'm not a wrestling fan, but I've found "The Rock" more than adequate as an actor. I've had no problem getting past his former cheese ball profession.

BrewBunny; Thanks. Sort of like somebody calling themselves a Storm Trooper or a Concentration Camp Guard in 1948. Or maybe today wearing a T-shirt saying "9/11 Hijacker."
Hates Wallace Shawn? Hates Wallace Shawn?? We won't name The Rock's movies if you don't want to, but quick, someone's gotta shout out Wallace Shawn's ridiculously wonderful turn with another famous, now deceased wrestler...

Though I too am skeptical about The Rock as a serious actor, I'm sure there are many who have said the same about SMG(P) and Nathan Fillion, regarding their soap opera roots. And look at all that omelet stuck to their faces now.
Hates Wallace Shawn? Hates Wallace Shawn??

"Inconceivable !"
Hates Wallace Shawn? Inconceivable!
Wallace Shawn riffs on that in the movie, but it's "Preposterous!". They started out with "Inconceivable!" but decided it was a little too on the nose, heh.
This was supposed to open this week, wasn't it ? It ain't playing anywhere in Ontario, Canada.

Anyone else up here ?

Anyone in the States see it listed in theatres ?

Did it get postponed again ?
At the moment it is being released in 63 theatres according to Box Offic Mojo. No telling when or if it will be released in most cities across North America.
It's playing in the SF Bay Area and my husband and I are going to try to catch a show while it lasts. My hunch is that it's the sort of movie that you need to experience in its fully glory without criticizing or analyzing it at least once, then watch it on Netflix a bunch of times to hope to understand it. All I can say is that, notwithstanding its initial critical crucifiction, I've always found Dune to be a fabulously entertaining flick, so I'll be happy to blow a few bucks on this one.
Saje dreamlogic BrewBunny barest_smidgen; Mye x hated lots of actors...Chuck Connors, Jodie Sweetin... etc...
Oh, well Jodie Sweetin - that one I get. That whole Full House crew is a dangerous bunch. Did you hear that Bob Saget recently confessed to engaging in bestiality? (Disclaimer: that link is NSFW. But trust me, it's really, really funny!)
