Join Jane Espenson in Vegas! Jane like you've never seen her! Which would be in Las Vegas tomorrow night picketing for the Writers Strike at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Do you live in Las Vegas? Or plan on attending the Consumers Electronic Show?

The indefatigable and irrepressible Jane Espenson is joining the WGA-United Hollywood presence at the Vegas Consumer Electronics Show tomorrow night... (Read a teensy bit more about it here at the fans4writers forum.)

An updated Jane post is here.

"But I have found out that I will be at the Wynn hotel and casino tomorrow night (Monday), from about 7 to 8 PM, in front of the Alsace Ballroom, handing out leaflets to members of the press there. Fans, Gentle Readers, Friends and Fellow Writers... want to come by and stand up with me? Please do! Because if you don't, there's a good chance I'm going to be there all alone!

UPDATE: Mark Verheiden, fellow Battlestar co-exec producer will be joining me in Vegas! Come check us BOTH out!"

And wouldn't you know it, I JUST left a 2.5 week Vegas vacation on Thursday *sigh*
I hope the leaflet handout is successful and anyone who goes - have a great time!
I am really going to try to do this!
Heh. Didn't she used to go to Vegas to write sometimes?

I hope the picket goes well, and some people in the area are able to show up and keep them company.
Dumb question: What's the correlation between the strike and the Consumer Electronics Show?
It's not a dumb question-- most articles mentioning the strike or Bill Gates' keynote haven't been linking the two, yet. During the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show last night, Bill Gates announced digital entertainment deals with NBC Universal, Walt Disney, MGM and Showtime (so that Microsoft can compete with iTunes). More here. I think word of the deals got out over the weekend or last week, but I've only started seeing calls for volunteers to picket and such over the past couple days, so I don't think there was much advance notice. I'm still rather fuzzy on the details and full implications myself, but the relevance to the strike is clear: the day when tvs and computers are the same thing is even closer than people thought and even less deniable for the AMPTP.

Interview with Gates. Interesting short audio clip.

I forgot to mention that the list of companies in my previous comment came from Nikki Finke's short story on this.
Thanks for explanation Sunfire.

That's great of Jane and Mark to make the trek out there. Even though I can't be with them in person, I'm with them in spirit and wish them the best!
Jane can just play copies of that audio clip, Sunfire, it pretty much says it all.
Just wondering; do GE and Sony have booths at this? If so, well, they're owners of some of the struck companies.
They got kicked out after an hour of handing out flyers.

Jane: "I felt like somebody who'd figured out some blackjack counting method."

Jane: "But what the heck, at a certain point in one's life, I think it's important to start getting thown out of places."

I just love her. Jane Goes Crazy and Breaks a Rule! All Heck Breaks Loose!

*giggle*

She reminds me of Willow leaving school property in "Faith, Hope, & Trick":

WILLOW: It's the freedom! As Seniors, we can go off-campus now for
lunch. It's no longer cutting. It's legal! Heck, it's expected! Wow,
it's, uh, also a big step forward, a Senior moment, one that has to be
savored.

Jane is just the coolest ever. She gets my vote for one of the most Strike-Faithful -- in company with Joss of course, and a few others of note...
Yeah, she's determined yet has a sense of humor about it. I'll be interested to learn how today goes.
