(SPOILER) Lots of James Marsters behind the scenes pics at the newly revamped BBC America Torchwood website. Behind the scenes pictures of James Marsters as Captain John in the "Gallery" section. Plus yet more new video footage elsewhere on the site.

BBC America have relaunched their Torchwood website . Lots of interesting articles and features, including new behind the scenes pictures of James Marsters. You can also watch an exclusive clip of the first episode ( be warned, you have to sit through a couple of commercials first but it's worth it ).

Great new clip! Love the new playfulness and humor evident this season all ready. And I don't think I can ever say enough how wonderful it is to see JM in such a fantastic role! It's almost like it was written just for him. ;)

Took the 'which Torchwood member are you' quiz...I'm Gwen! *shock*

*retests*
I did the 'What Torchwood member are you' quiz:

You are Toshiko

It's tough being a geek. People walked all over you in high school, and you're finding that adult life, sadly, isn't so different. But without you, our computers would crash, we couldn't program our DVD players, and our plasma screens would be on the fritz. Clearly, you're a necessary part of the operation, even if everyone else doesn't always realize it...

Which is close. I was a jock in high school, but that hardly made me popular.
You are Ianto

No one is really sure what exactly you do.

Sums me up.
You are Gwen

You think with your heart. It's maybe not the most effective way of leading, but your sensitivity and compassion are strengths when it comes to dealing with people. However, "heart" gets a bad rap these days; ruthlessness and ambition are more prized qualities. But you get the job done, and you're usually able to live with yourself the next day. Now, about that little affair with Owen...

We make a good team :-)
An alien with eight arms and five eyes appears over your bed and wakes you up. What do you do?

There's no "scream bloody murder" choice. Does no one scream on Torchwood??! Guess I'll be calm and run for my life...

ROTFL!!! Yeah, that's right. I'm a computer geek that can keep them from crashing. Damn. Someone should tell that to my PC 'cause it won't stop!

You'd like to be more open, but you have a shyness that is criminally vulgar.

Smiths fans, anyone? ;)

I got Tosh. Which is perfectly fine with me, she's one of my favorite characters. Everyone has their value, even if no one notices the fact. :) Course, I''ll have to steer clear of anyone that gets Owen (critical, who me?). ;)
We make a good team :-)

:D
I'm Tosh too... guess it does fit! (Except she's FAR better with computers than I am...)
I'm Gwen, which sounds about right. I like Gwen, except for the 'ick' Owen thing. My husband is not unlike Rhys.

What's wrong with Owen - I turned out to be Owen (I think it's cause I really would like to talk to an alien and wouldn't assume it's about to eat me no matter how many legs it has!)
I'm Toshiko...I'd love to see my score, though.

Wait, does that confirm their analysis? ;-)
....and getting back to being on topic, I absolutely adore those behind the scenes photos of JM and co. Excellent stuff.

And what better way of starting off the season with a 'bang' then dose of JM!

The new clip is wonderful. The whole thing looks like being so much more fun this season. *crosses fingers*
There's a rumour that he is the final episode as well.
deb Thank you for posting these.

The clip is great. You can really see the change in tone already, which is a very good sign.

The pictures are terrific too. I love behind the scenes stuff. Love the one with John's arm around James' shoulder. Sweet. :0)
Well, I'm Gwen and it seems fairly accurate. I do wonder how the "which is your favorite Beatle" question weights. On the squee side, looks like a pretty fun adventure for the opening and hopefully all of season 2.
Thanks debw!
Now I have a major complaint. What's up with not being able to "save" the pics in the photo gallery? Is this standard on U.K. sites? I've never encountered it on a fan site before.
Umm, not that I actually would save them .... well, maybe the one with JB's arm around JM, that would look very sweet on my desktop ;-)
But mainly just a hypothetical question (Want those pics to save, damn it!!!)

OK, I'm Owen. What can I say?
Never mind ;-) I did what any computer literacy challenged sane person would do, went to "All Whedon Infos" where someone who knows how to save them had posted them. Happy now.
Well, mostly. There is one especially gorgeous pic of John Barrowman I'd love to save, not posted there 'cause .... well, not Whedony.
I wonder if 2000 AD will have anything to say about Captain John, as he does seem to be inspired by Nikolai Dante.
Oh...didn't I mention my first reaction and I did not say thank you for the link.? Oops. Well just watched it again. Thanks for the link and

Damn, he's good!

I really hope more work like this is on the way for JM. He is so good at this kind of thing. I mean, yes, he is good at the other stuff too, but he is amazing at playing the larger than life, complicated villains...especially those that have an extra helping of libido. ;-)

I don't know Dragonball Z at all, so I have no idea what his character is supposed to be like internally. This clip makes me want to do research.

'splainy?
Dante is a flamboyant charasmatic rogue who has a lot of adventures in the future. Admittedly he's Russian but his jacket is very similar to the one that Captain John wears. It's been bothering me for ages about why I thought Captain John seemed very familar. And it finally clicked that it was Nikolai Dante. Be interesting to see if any other British comic readers see it as well.
I'm Gwen, which makes perfect sense because i'm not Welsh and not a woman.

Nikolai Dante is a character in UK weekly comic "2000 AD" newcj. He's a likeable rogue and thief whose costume looks a bit like JM's in TW. ETA: Oops, like Simon says. And yep, I can see the resemblance though i've not actually read '2000AD' since Dante was created - stopped in the 80s with occasional dippings in the 90s.

(and Dante himself must owe more than a nod to everyone's favourite sci-fi con-man and thief, "Slippery" Jim De Griz, the one and only Stainless Steel Rat)

Thanks, guys. The costume does look very similar. I wonder whether that was the costumer's idea or part of the script. One of the things I had figured was that they needed something different for Capt. John than they had for Capt. Jack and as far away from Spike as they could get, so long coats and dark colors were out. Short red flashy coat and lots of weapons works for both problems.

The short coat also gives the fans ammunition in the debate about whether JM has a backside or not. It may not have entered the decision making process in a strictly conscious way, but I have no doubt was a factor. ;-)
This is going to be so much more fun than Without a Trace.

I, erm... There's a debate?
Yeah, there's a section of the fan-dom that thinks he just has a big gap between the top of his legs and the small of his back. There're various theories as to what's in there, most seem to think it's either Lord Lucan or the winners of the 1953 FA Cup final (including subs and assistant coaches).

:-D

Wemb, just in case nobody told you, don't listen to Saje. He can be a devilish kind of boy.

I was joking about the deate. It is small, (Both the debate and perhaps the subject of the debate depending on who you listen to. ;-) ) and all in fun. JM keeps himself thin to be marketable and has a tendency to wear jeans that are a bit baggy in the back. Hence a tongue-in-cheek debate that probably serves more as a silly excuse to examine parts of photographs more closely than would normally be considered necessary, than an actual debate. Being a former assistant costumer though, it both occurred to me and tickled my funny bone that such things are taken into consideration when designing costumes.
People need an excuse to examine pics of James Marsters? *laughs haughtily at misguided folk* I don't need an excuse! Though do prefer the word "ogle" to the more methodical "examine"...
I want the job of the make-up woman. Of course I would lose the job as soon as I planted a big one on JMs lips, but it would be so worth it.

Heeee...amen sister!!!!!! It would be so totally worth it. Hell...I'd even work for free!

Torchwood is going to be awesome, but yeah Xane....I get where you're coming from about Without a Trace.
I still like that show though, and hopefully James will figure more prominently into some of the next episodes.
His return on Smallville is soon too I think!!!
Looking forward to Milton Fine/Brainiac's come back!!!!!

James has certainly been a very busy boy lately and that makes me insanely happy.
Shey - Where did you get the photos from? I want to save them as well. Thanks! Kathylovesspike, yeah, free, or I'd pay them, even. Yum.
I mean I'll still watch Without a Trace, but god, anytime James is not onscreen, snorecity. Just not my kind of show. Am looking forward to more Brainiac though. More my speed. Although I gave it up halfway though last season. Couldn't take another close-up of Lana's anguish face.
Canadian's step away from the kitchen knives and the medicine cabinet.
Now sit down, take deep breaths....in ...out....in...out......relax

Ok? ready... all information seem to indicate no Torchwood season 2, until the Fall.
I hope this is wrong!
luvspike .... Google www.Whedon.info, it will take you to the "All whedonverse info" site. You can't miss the pics, look under "James Marsters, Torchwood TV series, stills". You can save them the usual way.
The "two captains" one is DT size and looks yummy on my screen ;-)

Saje, you're Gwen???. ;)

Shey, THANKS!!!!!
Saje, you're Gwen???. ;)

Whadddya mean ? This is totally me:

You think with your heart. It's maybe not the most effective way of leading, but your sensitivity and compassion are strengths when it comes to dealing with people. However, "heart" gets a bad rap these days; ruthlessness and ambition are more prized qualities. But you get the job done, and you're usually able to live with yourself the next day. Now, about that little affair with Owen...

... i'm all about the heart thing, used to think with my elbow but that didn't turn out too well, it was bad at basic arithmetic.

(yeah, must confess i'm not 100% convinced this is a really accurate measure of personalities. Though in fairness I am almost always able to live with myself the next day - sure there've been a couple of times i've killed myself but those were very rare occasions and I soon got over it)
I find it ironic that my long lost brother Saje also got Gwen. Cheers ;)
Um, I'm apparently Gwen, too, though I think of myself more as a combination of Tosh, Cyber Woman and Mary the Prostitute/Philoctetes. I'm not Welsh, but I am an alien-cyborg.

For instance, I can read this, but I'm not gonna translate it for y'all - it's highly illogical, and not very nice, and some of you are such Gwens.
I find it ironic that my long lost brother Saje also got Gwen. Cheers ;)

Heh ;). Actually answered as honestly as I could too. I wonder if the test has somehow got opposited so that Toshs came out Gwens ? My left knee wonders if we've slipped through the looking glass into bizarro world but I suspect that's rubbish - it's always been one of my sillier joints.

... but I'm not gonna translate it for y'all ...

Pfft. Puhhlease, I ran it past my left ventricle and it totally translated it for me. It means: du-dum, du-dum-dum, du-dum, du-du. Which is a message i'm sure we can all get behind.
Heh ;). Actually answered as honestly as I could too. I wonder if the test has somehow got opposited so that Toshs came out Gwens ?

So if that happened, what should those of us who scored as Tosh really be? Inquiring minds want to know.

Oh, never mind, we know you're just jealous. ;-)
I actually answered as honestly as I could as well, and still came out as Owen. Which is actually a bit scary, not even considering the wrong gender thing.
Well, on the old "what character are you" BtS quizzes, I always came out as Spike ;_)
