TV Guide's favorite TV couples poll.
Buffy and Angel are listed as a choice for your favorite classic TV couple.
This site will work and look better in a browser that supports web standards, but it is accessible to any browser or Internet device.
It's not that I like Gilmore Girls better than I do Buffy--that is far from the truth--but I honestly prefer the Luke/Lorelai coupling.
Now, if it had been Willow/Tara, Willow/Oz, or Willow/Xander...
(Apparently Willow got all the best romantic relationships. Well, except for that one in S7.)
UnpluggedCrazy | February 12, 23:28 CET
(and Mulder and Scully were a couple for about 5 minutes, right at the end, before that they were partners that would happily die for each other, and all the better for NOT having a romantic relationship IMO)

Angel and Buffy... were just depressing.

Sunfire | February 13, 00:08 CET
It's not even a question.
Now, if the Doctor and Rose had been there, then it would've been hard.
I like Buffy and Angel, just not as much as other couples. and i liked Spike better.

But to me Willow and Tara will always be the Greatest On-Screen COuple Ever, or at worst second to Hepburn and Tracy who had the unfair advantage of being real.
And there was nothing on their comments pages where I could post about this topic!!!!

And honestly, my favorite Buffyverse relationship has to be Angel/Cordelia.
deepgirl187 | February 13, 00:44 CET
Also, I loathe Buffy/Angel with the passion of a thousand burning suns.

Ah, so you're the one :)
That seems highly energy inefficient. You should try hating them with the soothing warmth of a compost heap. Plus, bonus thematic tie in with dead things!
zeitgeist | February 13, 01:32 CET
I'd say "The Relationship I Was Most Dead-Wrong About" would be Joyce and the guy she started seeing just before he died. I was sure there was something sinister about him; maybe he was involved in her death? Classic Whedon misdirection/sucker-punch.
"Creepiest Relationship" would be Spike and Drusilla.
Lots of possibilities here.
filops | February 13, 01:40 CET
But I voted for Buffy and Angel (even though I think it should have been Buffy and Parker).

This is of course why Joss isn't bringing back Tara, because we are so very fond of her.
Meanie Joss! May your tabasco be much too hot for your migas and give you heartburn! :)

Oh, wait...
chazman | February 13, 03:08 CET
Aww... ;)
I don't know. As pretty and yummy as those two are, I feel a little apprehensive. I'd be more comfortable if Jack decided if he was really in love with Ianto, Gwen, or The Doctor. Then again, he could have all three.
... ... ...
*goes into acute fan-girl shock*
deepgirl187 | February 13, 03:13 CET
Also, where's Joey and Dawson/Pacey?
I ended up voting for Buffy and Angel because I like it when Joss wins. (even if he isn't aware of it at all)

Would've been hard not to vote for Vincent & Catherine if they would've been there. Where's the B&tB love?
Willowy | February 13, 03:49 CET
Yeah, just think if I could channel that dislike into energy. I could fuel my house with it! Wouldn't that be cool?
Hee!
*grins* I don't watch Torchwood but I love your comment!
As far as canon pairings go, I'd have to say my favorite Jossverse couples were Willow/Tara, Xander/Anya, Buffy/Riley, Zoe/Wash and Wesley/Lilah. But of course, my absolute favorite is Lindsey/Angel.
menomegirl | February 13, 03:50 CET
JudyKay7 | February 13, 04:02 CET
But it was tough to choose them over Luke and Lorelai because I loved that couple as well.
kballgetlost | February 13, 04:07 CET
Except for that part where Willow was erasing Tara's memories when she disagreed with her. I wouldn't classify that so much as "TV drama" as "deeply wrong," myself.
Sunfire | February 13, 04:09 CET
And I'm with Willowy on the Vincent and Catherine pairing. Why wasn't that on the list? I would have been really torn then.
Buffy and Angel were OK, but I came into the series in the middle. I really didn't even know who Angel was until after being exposed to Buffy and Spike. After the heat of that pairing, Buffy and Angel just seemed a little too teenager-ish.

Buffy and Angel may have been a world class tragic love, but I agree with whoever said it above -- they were just too overall depressing to be a Favorite Couple.

But weighing in on the Vincent Catherine love.
Buffy and Angel bored me to leaving the room by season three.
Xane | February 13, 05:40 CET
Lots of our favorites (as stated above).
resa | February 13, 05:54 CET
Lioness | February 13, 06:36 CET
I know it's kind of random, but I still wish Buffy and Oz would have gotten together. Their scenes together, though few, were always great. Even though it's a little scene, i always remember them speaking in Living Conditions. That bench really did look shifty.
vocah | February 13, 08:13 CET
Huh. That's the only new Buffy ship I've ever seen suggested that I didn't make a face at the first time I read it.
Sunfire | February 13, 08:49 CET
Willow and Tara in the 'verse - poor Buff really didn't have the luck, relationship-wise.
SoddingNancyTribe | February 13, 09:00 CET
No way. Buffy needed Captain Kirk.
She never got him.
Willowy | February 13, 09:38 CET
luvspike | February 12, 21:32 CET
Exactly! But this is TV Guide, not big on picking up on the deep and complex over name recognition. ;-)
menomegirl | February 12, 22:08 CET
Ditto! so I went with Mulder & Scully.
Shey | February 13, 10:18 CET
Succatash | February 13, 10:59 CET

Buffy and Angel, but any poll like this that includes Profit and his mom would really improve my opinion of internet polls.
jpr | February 13, 13:13 CET
Well, there was that one time...
baxter | February 13, 13:16 CET
But if William and his Mother had been on the list, who knows?!

Dana5140 | February 13, 17:00 CET
;-)
Saje | February 13, 17:03 CET
filops; The word I tend to use for Spike & Drusilla is "terrifying sweetness" so I think we part company a bit. (I'm thinking of reconciling them in my Season 30 fanfics *grin.)
DaddyCatALSO | February 13, 17:24 CET
But, hey I'm weird, I did love the sexual tension between Rachel and Joey on Friends, and loved even more that they did try to pay it off, but ended up with them figuring out that they do have great chemistry, but not so much as a couple.
I do feel almost equally passionate about both Buffy/Angel or Buffy/Spike, but I do agree that Willow and Tara, might have been the greatest couple we had on Buffyverse, well in my opinion.
Numfar PTB | February 13, 17:25 CET
Huh. That's the only new Buffy ship I've ever seen suggested that I didn't make a face at the first time I read it.
Thanks man. I think Buffy/Oz (I can't think of a way to combine the names. Maybe Offy? or Boz) had potential. They both had this burden that they didn't ask for, and I think Joss could have explored that in a very cool way.
Lot's of people have mentioned Willow and Tara as being possibly the greatest romance of all time or whatever, and I know I'm probably gonna get some angry responses for this next thing, but Willow and Tara never did it for me, for one simple reason: Amber Benson couldn't act. The relationship brought out the best in Alyson Hannigan, but the Tara stutter was an abomination. Wow! I'm extreme aren't I? The stutter did peeve me though.
I honestly think if they had hired a different actress, that i would have a completely opinion, because she was written brilliantly.

Saje | February 13, 18:16 CET
Yes, yes he could.

(She also said Amber was the closest any woman had ever come to making her re-think her predispostions, and ceili is somewhere to t he right of Michelle Malkin; she makes *me* look like James Carville, which takes soem doing. Can you tell I'm cyber-crushin' here?))

About the stutter, I'm aware that it was written as part of the character, i just felt that Amber did it badly. She had some nice moments, her scenes with Buffy in the sixth season were better, but overall she didn't engage me. The stutter was just one example.
vocah | February 13, 20:29 CET
Did you watch her expressions in "Family" and "The Body"? She's a good actress, but she wasn't given a lot to work with in BtVS.
Unfortunately, Amber isn't built like a pencil, so she probably won't get the really headliner roles in the future. Hollywood's loss, I say.
quantumac | February 13, 20:30 CET
As his wife, it is a relief to know he *isn't* kissing strange women...
Tee | February 13, 20:34 CET
My sentiments exactly Luvspike.
Spike and Buffy would take first place, and Angel and Cordy would be a close second.
kathylovesspike | February 13, 20:39 CET
I agree that she didn't have a great deal of plot lines in the show. A lot of the time she just seemed to be a foil for Willow. Her best stuff was when she broke up with Willow in season six and when Glory sucked her brain. She did crazy surprisingly well.
vocah | February 13, 20:45 CET

See? Warned'ya all, the return of "The Love Thread", sort of... LOL.

I voted for Luke & Lorelai on the poll, although David & Maddie were sparkling at the time. ;)
