Neil Patrick Harris working with Joss Whedon?
Right at the end of this interview, Neil says he's appearing in a musical web short called "Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog" written and directed by Joss. (Possible spoilers for the new Harold and Kumar film)

If so, thanks.
(And to be clear...he wasn't joking about the short, right? Just about Dancing with Stars?)

He seemed serious about that bit and Joss did talk about internet shorts etc. while the strike was on - assuming he wrote it and got the people together then, they'd only actually have to film it now, which though no small task, might be doable in a couple of days for an experienced TV writer/producer/director and a similarly experienced set of actors (don't they normally do about 6-8 pages per day ? Or about the length of a short ?).
Then he could edit it etc. in his spare time (yep, if you're reading Joss, the "spare time" comment was just to give you a laugh ;).

I have to say that I would love a musical about super villains with NPH, and Joss is just the man to do it. I hope it isn't completely a joke.
embers | March 15, 20:36 CET
Seriously, it's not a joke. Title et al is true. Okay, I suppose I'm not Mr. Established Credibility, but maybe when this is released I will be. Will anybody be upset if I say I told ya so? Cause I will, really. Maybe not out loud.
Ya know, you try to brighten people's day... {-)~
And once more: There's a very happy surprise regarding this for Whedon fans, specifically Browncoats. Though since no one believes it's true, I suppose the whole thing will be a very happy surprise!
I don't suppose it'd interest anybody that they started shooting today?
EDIT: Umm, I don't have any knowledge about the Dancing With the Stars comment.

I just realised, if this turns out to be any - you know - good, it could totally be used for fund raising purposes.

Joss could read it over here, and suddenly tunes pop in his head, a quick phonecall to Aly telling her to arrange a trip to the HIMYM set, an approch on NPH at the craft services table when he is particually happily full of some kind of sandwich, and PRESTO! DR. HORRIBLE’S SING-A-LONG BLOG is in the works!

I'm off, I look forward to returning later to a large round of skepticism!

Also Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long blog is a bit of a bugger for a Whedonesque category.

Let's face it, as soon as I saw that title I was all 'Either Neil Patrick Harris has Joss' sense of humour, or that's a Joss title'.

He was referring to two separate things. A project with Joss (which at this point I trust bobw1o on), and Dancing with the Stars (which he was kidding about).

EDIT: Oh, I've also seen a fictionalized version of Neil Patrick Harris appear in a comic book about - that's right - Jay and Silent Bob. As the director of adult film "Doogie Nights". But that doesn't count, as it was just a fictional representation of him portrayed by a drawing.

NPH - I have always loved him extra since he confessed to an undying love of MST3K and appeared on a short MST3K promotional special...
Searching for "Dr. Horrible" brought little information, but did net numerous hits of 19-y-o boys using it as their myspace names; however, I did find Dr. Terrible's House of Horrible which was at least amusing...
Sometimes I think you Brits really get all the good shows, but then I remember the Whedonverse and BSG and stuff like that, and then I feel better.

This post is actually a joke, but in writing about it I just googled - there's a blog about Nathan going to the supermarket. He wore a hat.

To connect the dots on this one - during the strike, Joss couldn't write for WGA struck companies. He could write if he wanted to do an internet indy thing. He said he wanted to do an internet indy thing with his friends, maybe take it around festivals, maybe put it online. Joss loves musicals. Joss was on strike. Joss loves a strike musical. Joss knows Neil - Neil works with Aly on HIMYM, which Joss is known to lurk on the set of. Neil knows Nathan, as does Joss. (Er, spot that exclusive? Joss knows Nathan. You heard it here first).
Oh, and the essential detail: Nathan wears a hat in supermarkets.
The conclusion to all this: R Kelly's In The Closet, move over.

I did think of the (ironically) inimitable Steve Coogan when I first read the title but it's random enough to be real and too random to be made up IMO. That plus the testimony of bob1wo pretty much seals the deal.
And though i'd love NPH to play me (cos then I could wonder "What would I do if NPH was me ?") it just wouldn't be the same without Morgan Freeman.
Saje | March 16, 05:08 CET
And, on the plus side, Joss has been awful quiet lately. Last time he went MIA we ended up with 'Sugarshock' so, yeah, fingers crossed!

TamaraC | March 16, 05:26 CET
This time we get a tv show! Keep the fingers crossed though. And toes. I think someone mentioned before that there are special shoes for the toe thing.
If I was going to be a super-villian, my home base would TOTALLY be the set of that show.
Please tell me you would challenge the hero to a dance-off to the death.
it just wouldn't be the same without Morgan Freeman.
Like we would do this without Morgan Freeman. He would play Joss when he posts.

The bag is catless.
During the strike I started writing a musical intended as a limited internet series, 3 episodes of approximately 10 minutes each. Writing with me was my brother Jed, his fiancee Maurissa, and my other brother Zack. To my shock and surprise, we finished it. To my greater shock and surprise, we managed (with the help of many people I'll be praising at length soon) to drag it into preproduction (yes, just as DOLLHOUSE was given a start date two months away and all my comics were due.) And today, after a grueling week of writing everything ever while trying to be a producer, I got to start shooting. A musical.
This much I will say: It's the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he's too shy to talk to. And I'm having the time of my life.

And a cast of Dozens!

Yes, Anony, that's how I know, no they didn't take any special cameras. They're shooting through Thursday, a 5 day shoot. If you figure a normal hour drama is usually 8 days of shooting, you'll get an idea of the length of the thing.
Also, the Director of Photography is Ryan Green, Jack Green's (DP of Serenity) son and camera operator on Serenity.
That's pretty cool, I didn't know about Felicia.
Completely unrelated, I met Ryan's brother, Peter, earlier last week. Among other things he pulled focus on the amazing Steadicam shot at the beginning of the movie! He had mirrors rigged by the grips because he was often forced to be under the steadicam (tight spaces and all) and needed a way to check if the actor's hit their marks. Peter is a very friendly fellow and spoke highly of Joss and working on Serenity. He loved the fan response, including the receiving of cakes and such for the crew.
