Summer Glau cancels appearance at StarFury: Serenity Complete. This Firefly con is scheduled for April 11-13 2008 in the UK.

Starfury: Serenity Complete organizer Sean Harry posted a message on the con's forums that said

Sadly, Summer Glau has had to cancel her appearance at STARFURY: SERENITY COMPLETE. On Thursday she was cast in a new film, and the shooting schedule conflicts with the convention.

Other Firefly guests Adam Baldwin, Alan Tudyk and Mark Sheppard are still scheduled to appear.

I've got friends going to that event because they live in London. I wouldn't attend another Starfury event even if it was held in my back yard.

I doubt it Tamara. But the Doctor from Voyager was in one of the ST-TNG movies so anythings possible...

(In fact, now that I think about it they are the same situation. Both actors played the same "Character", but different copies of that character. Summer could play "a" Cameron, just not "The" Cameron.)

That's presuming they've decided to integrate the two versions of the franchise in some fashion, even if it's separate timelines. I don't really recall for certain, but I thought they weren't doing that.

The rumor is that there will be a "link" between the two. That could be anything I guess, including some version of Cameron. *shrug*

I'm sure it is probably something completely different, but it is fun to speculate.

Bwahaha! :) Actually, I'm hearing reports that due to litigation regarding similarities in the naming, they had to abandon "From Tusk Til Dawn", "Under the Tuskin' Sun", and a number of others.

jetflair, every con commitment is contingent upon the guests availability. You can hardly blame starfury for Summer getting a job. That is harsh to the extreme. Conventions are always second place to actual jobs as they should be. I guess this is another example of fan entitlement gone wrong.

Good on Summer for being in work, boo to everyone who is knocking Starfury (those who haven't had a positive experience or a con hasn't met their expectations) - Any Convention guest at any con is always down as *subject to work commitments*

Sean Harry (of Starfury) will do his damdest to get a suitable replacement, although he has already suggested a few firefly actors who may not be able to get the time due to work.

No News updated on IMDB for Summers new film, but wishing her all the best!

Having personally spent time with her, I can assure you that jetflair is one of the last people to get caught up in a case of "fan entitlement," as you put it. Her comment probably had more to do with knowing that Sean's explanation for Nathan's last minute cancellation of his Starfury LA appearance due to "being out of the country filming a movie," was bullshit. Summer may indeed have cancelled for a new job (in which case, congratulations to her!), but Sean's credibility is frayed enough that people might want to think twice before getting snippy at those who don't think the world of him.

Sean's credibility is only frayed in a very small but very vocal circle. I certainly don't "think the world of him" but I have no problem believing that Summer has a new job and that is her reason for cancelling. I understand the truth behind the Nathan/LA issue but that doesn't mean that everything Sean says is a lie. I believe that was a misunderstanding and a misguided attempt at not disappointing fans because of contractual issues, but nothing more.

And then there's the hooplah surrounding Sean Maher attending Starfury Infinity. Which was also a lie. He had never even confirmed he was going to attend. (this Sean M told me personally, as well as a friend of mine on several different occasions) Yet Sean Harry sold tickets advertising him anyway.

Add that to the Nathan lie with Starfury LA, sorry, once trust is broken, its difficult to get back.

Fans are right to be wary about this company when so visibly caught in a string of lies surrounding guest appearance.

I hope Summer really did get a new movie. She's immensely talented - as are all the BDH's.

Whatever, it will all out in the wash, but I think being happy for Summer's success is my motivation here, I could care less about starfury (never have attended, don't ever plan on it). I'm not so sure about the intentions of others.

While I understand you saying that, I also understand that there's just no other way of putting it. Sean was 100% deceptive in what he told fans about Nathan being at the LA con - AND very much so, in his "excuse" for Nathan "cancelling". What else do you call Sean tellling fans that Nathan had to cancel because he had to film out of the country - when there was not an ounce of truth to it?

But - to get back on topic - I'm looking forward to hearing more of this new movie of Summer's

Any chance that the film is The Serving Girl? Would it be possible for Joss to shoehorn TSG in between Doctor Horrible and Dollhouse? Although, to be honest, I'd rather see her get a feature film part, that would certainly help increase interest in Terminator which might keep it alive for a second season.

The last I heard TSG was back-burnered because of Dollhouse. Although I understand why it might come up in speculation now, since Dollhouse didn't back-burner Doctor Horrible.

Me, I'm pointlessly imagining that Tim Robbins has cast her in the film he's shooting here in Portland soon. (Don't go starting rumors to that effect, this is just me being fanboyish.)

The TERMINATOR 4 movie is being directed by McG, who has a show in development at FOX. And friends on THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES.

From a business point of view, both FOX and WB would stand to benefit from both the show tieing into the movie, and the movie into the show. Both companies have a lot of money invested in the TV show, and people working on them who cross over..

I've no idea if any of that means anything. At all. But it should.

Hmm, an appearance of Cameron (well, a Cameron model, at least) in the T4 movie might just make me forget how bad T3 was and how I'm so very glad that they decided to go in a different direction to that when the show was suggested.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say that although I have yet to receive any notice of which film Summer has been cast in, I do know that she was intending to attend Starfury to see her UK fans again because she sent me an email telling me so. Although I have been running her official site I have to wait for official information to be released before I can put it on her site which has led to problems in the past but she was definitely intending to attend Starfury from what she told me just a few weeks back. Hope that clears up some of the issues raised above as far as it can for now!

Well Darn. She was the reason I was going. I've never seen her at a con. I'd hoped to get her autograph to auction off at the Can't Stop the Serenity Charity Screening. I'm looking forward to seeing Adam and Alan again - and Mark, of course but still.

I've told everyone I know (one and a half persons) about Summer for sure being in that Harold Robbins' film that will be shot in Portland, Maine.

Responsible fandom is too hard.

(And sorry, Lioness & others, who will be disappointed at Summer's Starfury absence. However, I am so glad that/when our Whedonite actors are getting work...)

Hey QG, Its not a problem that you mentioned the movie. What I meant when I talked about problems were the problems I had in publishing unofficial or semi-official information under the official contract to run the website. No biggie but it meant that others often "scoop" the official site. I merely wanted people to realise that Summer had intended to attend the Starfury con and there were no "lies" about that. Oh and by the way - Yay Summer on the new movie!
