April 17 2008

See a screening of Chiwetel Ejiofor's movie Redbelt today in SoCal. "A sneak preview of Mamet's newest film, Redbelt, will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 7:30 p.m., followed by an in-person discussion with the director."

I saw this at an earlier screening. Chiwetel Ejiofor is (no surprise) absolutely fantastic in a leading man role that calls for all the authority and angst, though none of the psychosis, that he brought to the Operative. David Mamet has taken a premise that has been the basis of uncounted action films -- some good, zillions cheesy -- and made it the stuff of Mametian drama (with some really good action, too). Hope this is sufficiently non-spoilery :)
I'll see the movie, but I think I can wait until it comes out. And I don't want to meet David Mamet in person.
dreamlogic, is it that you have no interest in meeting David Mamet or is there a story behind you not wanting to meet him period? I'm being nosey, but your wording has made me curious.
I understand that he's done a lot of good work, of which I can appreciate some, but that bludgeon writing style of his doesn't make me want to get close to him, particularly. There's no personal story.
