That it is! I'm an Education major; I'm doing a thesis on specifically the first four seasons of BtVS in relation to how I can connect the show's metaphorical portrayal of school and of issues pertaining to Buffy and the Scoobies' coming of age, and how I can connect that to my own students'.

This is the beauty of an open-ended undergrad honors thesis, and a brilliant mentor who loves the show as much as I do.
...plus, it makes all of my Buffy stuff tax-deductible!

BofB, I've used Buffy in my classroom; the speech from Earshot is really a fabulous way to get kids to think about someone other than themselves for a change. Let me know if you want to compare notes.

That's odd. I have a Philosophy professor at my college who uses Buffy in his classes, too...

Yes, korkster, really. When I bought the Chosen Collection, I totally deducted it. It doesn't count for anything I can't justify, though, such as my fun Buffy and Faith action figures...

ManEnough, I may have to take you up on that! Right now, I'm still in the preliminary stages, namely: "No, Mom, I really am doing homework!" as I re-watch seasons 1-4. Except this time, I have a purpose! Thanks for the tip on Earshot; I was thinking of that one for sure. It's really difficult, though, to narrow down to the few episodes/messages I have room to include!

I also have this pipe dream of getting Jossir to be my third reader; my school will pay him to come and do it, but the man has so many things going at once! Still, one can dream...

BandofBuggered I'd assume you'd use Marcie's "Look - Listen - Learn" as part of it, since she felt so invisible to her fellow classmates she actually turned invisible.

Willow & Moloch are a perfect example of the dangers of online dating, although kids today might snicker at the "technology" of that episode. (I do wonder if any schools still start typing courses on typewriters.)

"Lie to Me" might work if you look at the "social misfits/gang" aspect of it - Ford hooking up with the Wannabes because he thought it would get him acceptance from the vampires, Chantarelle being in the group because she wanted to feel she belonged somewhere. And then stay with her as Buffy meets up with her again in LA, where she & her boyfriend are lured by Ken...except that might get into sticky territory what with the whole religious zealot angle.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

:thumbs up: Ah yes. I also had the pleasure of having one of these, at my beloved SUNY Oswego. As I was an English Writing Arts major, I was able to write a TV script for mine (!). Unfortunately, Joss' shows didn't exist yet, so I ended up writing a Picket Fences script. Still, good times.
