Firefly, Meet Blu-ray. Fox officially announces Firefly on Blu-ray for release on . . . a date yet to be scheduled.

The info is wrong. The date. The price is correct.

You have to also keep in mind that the RRP or MSRP is rarely what something sells for. I just paid £25 for a DVD set that has an RRP of £79 and $12 for a CD/DVD special edition of a new album that had an MSRP of $18.
Maybe leave this up this time, so we don't get stuck in a loop? And that way we get the correction too.

Yeah, I'm still kinda ticked about the price. That's a lot for less than a full season.
Someone kick zeitgeist, he's stuck in a land of capital letters with no vowels.
Anyone know whether it'll be region-free or not?
Tristan, I don't think so. November 11th is the current unofficial date.
Ow... thanks, b!X :) That would be Recommended Retail Price (the UK version) or Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price for those of you in the audience section clearly labeled "Vowel and/or Lowercase Letters Cheering Section".

It's kind of like Red vs. Blue's Gadget PSA run amok. ;) (Me, I want Firefly on HHD DVVDD BVD!)
I just wish I had waited another week before I placed my bet on HD-DVD. Couldn't have been more than a couple days after I bought my player that it was announced that Blu Ray won the format war. At least this gives me a reason to plunk down more money for another DVD player.
Awesome, awesome awesome! I have been waiting for this! :D
"UPDATE:We've received word from Fox Home Entertainment that despite any online retail reports, the Blu-ray of 'Firefly' has not yet been scheduled. Although the title is planned for release, official confirmation of a street date is pending. We've updated our database in meantime, and will keep you posted."

They have posted an update at the link.
It'll be worth it...
1080p video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 Surround (Nice) thatís a step up for the original stereo (Pro-logic) soundtrack. Can't wait to see and hear this.
Edited the link title to reflect the up(non)date.
They have it listed on Amazon for a pre-order price of $62.95 (with the list price of about $90). I think Amazon's policy is they honor pre-order prices even if the price goes up. It's still a bit steep for me. I'll wait and see if the price goes down even more or wait and get it used off of Ebay.

As much as I want to support the show I can't justify spending that much money on something I already own and already looks pretty fantastic when upscaled with an Hd-dvd or blu-ray player.
The suggested retail price of $89.98 isn't going to change, Firefly Fanatic. The price an individual retailer decides to charge is completely up to them.
Oh, I know that TamaraC, just mentioned that was the suggested price to show that the actual price will most likely be a lot lower.

And even at around the $60 mark it still seems a bit too high for me. I'll have to wait and see what the extras are going to be and hope it goes down even more when the release date approaches.
'Anyone know whether it'll be region-free or not?'

It won't be. Fox NEVER leaves a Blu-ray release region-free, and it makes me mad. I swear, if they don't announce an Australian release...
I think the international releases will completely depend on how well the US release does.
I'm in, even though the price is high and I already own it -- there's no show I've watched as many times and enjoyed as much each time, not even Buffy.

Damn. As soon as there is an official release date, I will be holding a contest on my site. (The Numbers.com) Hopefully it won't be long now.
I don't understand what makes it so expensive. Pushing Daises: Season 1 on Blu-Ray is $27.95. Granted, there are only 9 episodes in season 1 of Pushing Daises as opposed to the 14 of Firefly. I just don't know if 5 more episodes equal another $30-$60.

I don't know, maybe there's gold in them there discs.
Warner Bros. vs. Fox. There's the difference.
Actually, I'm a big fan of Fox TV DVDs. I may be biased, since a good majority of what I own are by them, but I think they put together very good sets. The few Warner Bros. I own have very few extras. The Pushing Daisies set mentioned above only has a single featurette. So while this Firefly Blu-Ray set does seem pretty steep, I don't consider it standard practice for them. I've found Universal tends to be more expensive.

Those two sets are enough to make me get a Blu-Ray player...I just don't know which yet.
