The Guild Season One DVD now available for preorder. Felicia Day's award winning web series will be released on DVD on August 1st. Free shipping with preorder. It will also be available at Comic-Con.

Whoo-hoo! New TV to watch. Dr. Horrible Online in July. The Guild in August. Nothing new/good is on except Dr. Who. I've been watching Buffy Season 7.

I watched the first episode on the internet. Computer/connection way too slow to watch them all.
And we get extras!
I think NTSW format means NTSC format, which is a standard TV aspect ratio like Buffy rather than widescreen like most of Angel and all of Firefly. Either that or it's NoT Safe for Work format, in which case please disregard.

Yes, but will it have a musical commentary track?

This will now be the standard by which I judge all DVDs.
I'm hoping Joss was kidding about the musical commentary on Dr. Horrible.

A maiden fair to see
The pearl of web TV
A nerd who loves to role play
For whom other nerds sigh
Knowing her first as Vi
Then as Felicia (some) Day

Proprietress of The Guild
A web base she did build
So Joss made her his tutor
In how to create shows
Without lame studios
And hawk 'em on computer

Pity pretty Penny
She may not truly see
Her real horrible suitor.

To the tune of "A Maiden Fair To See," HMS Pinafore, Gilbert & Sullivan.

I guess I have to watch this now! Surprising, given my two years of dedicated WoW service and all-around gaming addiction
Oh, definitely, then, flak - you'll get a kick out of it. And Felicia Day ... what can I say? She's great!

From the very first line, Pointy, I knew that post was yours! (a compliment, that)
Oh please, please, please let Felicia's dance dance revolution youtube video be on the DVD extras. Her movements are crazy fly... watch your back Fred Astaire!
Nicely done, Pointy. It was quite moving. (Pardon this tear.)

It is always fun to see G&S show up here. Do you know all of your G&S that well or just a few?
Later on it will be interesting to see a comparison on how well this DvD sells compared to the Dr Horrible DVD.
:)
My knowledge of Gilbert & Sullivan & Sondheim is scant, but I know how to Googlyrics.
I've only watched a little bit of this online, but I just had to order it! I know I'll love seeing it on DVD, and I want to support this endeavor. I hope it does really well.
Do you know all of your G&S that well...?
Bet he had it all implanted with the upgrade. Explains all that clever posting of his.:)
I'll pre-order it this weekend once I get paid. I saw this a couple weeks ago and instantly fell in love with it.

NTSC doesn't really have anything to do with fullscreen/widescreen. The region 1 Buffy/Angel/Firefly DVDs are all NTSC. It's a TV encoding standard that's used in North America as well as a few other places, as opposed to PAL which is used in Europe and much of the rest of the world. Wikipedia tells all.

Basically, it's just saying that the DVD will be playable on any North American DVD player. If you're in a PAL country you'll need to have an NTSC converting player. Shouldn't have to worry about regions though since I'd assume it's a region free DVD.
Thank you for clarifying. I was mixing up Standard Definition v. High Definition with aspect ratios. The two are related concepts (HD has a higher aspect ratio than SD, generally, although you can do stuff to make SD wide screen) but not interchangeable.

"Later on it will be interesting to see a comparison on how well this DvD sells compared to the Dr Horrible DVD. "

Unless they put out a counter or send figures to http://www.the-numbers.com , we won't know how well it sells.
I hope the Christmas special will be on the dvd too.

By the way, they've also started up a store for merchandise, if anyone's looking for Guildy stuff.
"Now with head and arm holes!" Woo Hoo!
Oh, thanks for the info, hacksaway- I must procure a shirt! Purple.
Do they ship outside of the US?

If yes, then I will buy a copy. I'd probably buy one even if I wasn't a fan of the series, just to support the idea of independly produced and released material.
I am so excited! Now I won't have to use my PS3 to watch The Guild on my TV! Oh wait, i use my PS3 as my dvd player so I guess I'll just get it for the extras =P
I fulfilled my capitalist quota.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to the people who heard some of us begging for English subtitles on the DVD and who have come to the party. Just for making this (deaf gals) life somewhat easier... I'll buy two copies!

Last night I had to sit through (an unsubtitled) S3 of Catherine Tate while wondering what everyone was laughing at. Tis no fun.

(And I sincerely hope the Dr Horrible crowd are taking note, too.)
missb,

Someone did post about it on the Official Fan site. http://doctorhorrible.net on the message board. And also since Joss is taking direction/hints from Felicia Day, we would hope it would since hers did.

Need captioning on the outakes too. Sometimes on the outtakes, the words are not clear at all and turning on the captioning helps alot to get all the funny.
Do they ship outside of the US?

It appears so. I placed an order and they didn't seem to make any disctinction bewteen US and elsewhere except for converting the cost before charging it to my credit card. My order with an Australian credit card to an Australian address was made easy by a handy drop down menu list of Australian states/territories and was accepted at a price of only AUD 21.93!

Yay for a TV and DVD player that both play NTSC and region 1 as well as the local stuff.
"Unless they put out a counter or send figures to http://www.the-numbers.com , we won't know how well it sells."

Anonymous1 you're right of course, but I hope both of them provide numbers so that the fans know how well they are selling.
Comparing the more well known names of Dr Horrible with the longer term web presence of the Guild would provide some interesting food for thoughts.
"Basically, it's just saying that the DVD will be playable on any North American DVD player. If you're in a PAL country you'll need to have an NTSC converting player."

My understanding is that people in Europe, at least, are likely already to have TVs which can display NTSC without the need for a converter.
AFAIK, it's more that we're more likely to have DVD players that have converters built in. The TV just plays whatever signal it's sent so most of the multi-region heavy lifting is done by the DVD player (you couldn't take most PAL TVs to the US and watch NTSC broadcasts for instance).

A fair proportion of my DVDs aren't region 2 and i've never had issues playing them - even on my previous telly which had scorch marks from the big bang on the casing ;).

(early players would sometimes output NTSC signals in black and white or not at all but - to my fellow unAmericans ;) - if your DVD player's 5 years old or less that's very unlikely to be a problem I reckon)

I've gone ahead and pre-ordered but thinking about it, i'm not sure I should have - clearly the free postage offer is going to cost more for overseas buyers, feels like i'm taking the piss slightly by effectively paying less for the DVD. Might donate a few dollars to compensate.
I'm also on the reconsidering if I should've pre-ordered for the same reasons as Saje.

I'm used to ordering things overseas, and despite the fact of them clearly being a lot more expensive than local postage, it's not so much, that I'm not willing pitch in those few bucks myself.
You don't have to be a big gammer or familar with WoW to enjoy 'The Guild'. There is something for everyone & Felicia Day is hilarious!
I'm guessing they'll just be really appreciative of pre-orders because it is harder to come up with money to pay for that first batch of DVDs than later (when they are selling like hotcakes).
Edit; That's was suppose to be Gamer not gammer--sorry!
So, I guess I really should've been watching this all along, huh? ;). It seems the episodes are still up (are they really that short?), so I'll be trying this and if I like it - which seems likely - I'll order the DVD.

Spacegirl3200: welcome to the black :). There's an edit button underneath your post if you want to edit a typo. I wouldn't be able to live without it, honestly ;).
For some odd reason, you can't edit when you are new. And I like the thought of my grandmother, if she were alive, enjoying The Guild.
Yeah, you have to post without a net for a while. Welcome, Spacegirl3200.

One of my Gammers would have loved The Guild, but she would have tut-tutted all the way through it anyway. The other Gammer would have had a coronary and disowned me for liking it. She was a fiercely proper Gammer.
Just in case anyone is still reading messages here, the Guild DVD will be the same $20 at Comic-Con as it is online.

Bonus for Comic-Con attendees is the chance for autographs! :)
Autographs would be sweet, but also I think comic con attendees will get them in hand immediately, while I'm thinking they aren't going to mail mine before comic con.
I'll buy mine through you guys at ComicCon, danregal - gives me another excuse to be hanging out there, at least for a bit.

I guess I'll have to drag a loaded pallet behind me through the Con for all my junk - or is that a palette? ; >
For some odd reason, you can't edit when you are new.

Ah, really? Learn something new every day. And here I was thinking I was being helpfull ;).

She was a fiercely proper Gammer.

Gammer's an actual word? From context, I'm guessing something like 'grandmother'? The only thing I can find when googling, is this, and I'm guessing you're not talking about your two hardcore DJ's ;)
Carter had a "gammy" or "gammer" on 'E.R.', before that i'd never heard it. There's a UK slang word "gimmer" though that basically means "old coot" (though it's morphing into something like "idiot"), might be related.
