On The Rise - Dr. Horrible violin & piano cover. Don't you wish you had the talent to do something like this?

Posted because it's awesome and makes me wish I could play the violin.

I'd say that's pretty darn good.
This will sound really stupid, but hearing that almost makes me cry. Ah, Dr. Horrible, what have you done to me?
Wow, that's amazing!
I'd figured out the melody on piano, but I have no other buddies who are both Whedonly and musically inclined. I have envy too!

There's also a Freeze Ray cover.
Wow, that kid's great! Joss would love this!
I think that that is excellent, being able to play a duet with yourself on violin cannot be the easiest thing to do.... I'm kind of loving all the creativity that is blossoming from Doctor Horrible!
Aww I loved the cutie grinning along on the left. (I mean, I know it's the same guy on both sides, but his left-side persona was adorable).
From a critical standpoint, the only thing is that the downbeat's off sometimes between violin and piano. But very nice and accurate, too.
Agree with catherine. That was pretty sweet. I enjoyed it.
FYI, Felicia plays the violin, doesn't she? Interesting to see when she stumbles across this.

I wanna see this guy take on "So They Say." :)
Pretty good, but his split screen is backwards.
That was fun to watch, great how DHSAB is inspiring others. And Violin or piano - I'd love to play either but I guess it 'll have to be just the spoons.
That was so cute!! Good job!!

(coming from a violin teacher... :)
That was awesome, thanks for posting this link.
I'd just wish he'd let somebody else play the violin. The piano playing was OK, but he obviously is no violinist. But I know how it is. When I rewrote the Firefly theme for viola and harp nobody wanted to play it with me. (I don't play viola) Then I tried to make my harp ensemble play it, but the kids wanted to do "pirate of the caribbean" instead. *sigh*

I haven't even started on DR. Horrible, because it would probably be the same story. arrgggh.
"but he obviously is no violinist"

So who's playing the violins?
"I'd just wish he'd let somebody else play the violin. The piano playing was OK, but he obviously is no violinist."

Really? He seems fairly young, if you encouraged everyone young who's playing to let someone more experienced else play instead, no one would get anywhere and violinists would slowly disappear. Not to mention it sounded more than fine to my untrained ears anyway.

And yeah, Felicia mentioned in the Lifehacker interview that she plays violin. And she majored in mathematics. Which is so awesome. Generally, studying maths requires such a keen, analytical, rational mindset that it really speaks volumes about her as a person.

Okay, I cried. And geez, why harp on the guy? I wish *I* could do what he did.

Ha! Funny!
I was wondering if anyone would notice. ;-)
Duly noted. ;)
Absolutely incredible.

Here's the link to the Freeze Ray cover that Bix mentioned.
It's okay, and I totally give the kid mad amounts of credit for it... but man, there is a great lack of more-than-just-okay Dr. Horrible covers out there. I expected Youtube to be filled with them once it came out because so many Whedon fans are hella talented, y'know? And by more-than-just-okay I mean something where the person's pretty much one step away from a record deal. (Example, because I love this guy to pieces, and he apparently did get picked up.)
What MattK said at the beginning!
:) good catch Pat & korkster!

Wasn't meant as a putting down of the kid, just a professional observation. It's hard to time yourself with yourself, much harder than it is to ask somebody else to play with you. REALLY!

But music and geekiness seem to be hard to get in a talented combo. Ms. Day being the great exception - and Joss and that kid and untold others, who I just haven't had the pleasure to know as of yet.
The problem I always found witht he violin, is that it's harder to pitch to a piano than it is to another violin/string instrument (yes i know, technically a piano has strings involved) something about timbre i always believed. The quality seemed to be better when both violin parts were playing. Despite being slightly offbeat to the piano, that someone else above mentioned, I found it to be a rather lovely rendition. I would be very happy for something like that being on the soundtrack (although perhaps professionally done, or with Felicia playing maybe?)
He did quite well. In fact, I watched both covers twice- once to observe, and the next to use as my own personal karaoke backing while I sang along.

And do be nice to the kid- after all if you're going to play with yourself, at least do what he has and make it productive!
That was made of awesome. I love the little acting details in his split-screen. I think it's a great effort :).

Did anyone else just go to an unpleasant visual place? Just me then? M'kay ;)
Talent is as talent does. And this kid does.
Absolutely amazingly great effort!

You can tune a piano but you can't tuna fish. ;-)
