Browncoats push for a hardburn record breaking vote. Firefly fans are voting TODAY at Rich Labonte's TV Vote in an effort to garner a record amount of votes in one day.

They are also voting for Angel and Buffy. A good way for fans of the Joss 'verse to make a show of solidarity.

I can't speak for TamaraC, but everytime a plug for this shows up on one of my Browncoat listserves, I wonder why we should care about some random internet poll that seems to exist for no other reason than to generate page views for the website owner.

I just hate these completely mindless polls that no one with any decision making power actually cares about. All is does is create traffic for those sites. And I have already wasted way too much time on this ridiculous and pointless issue.

I would also add that I question whether this is "newsworthy" enough for the front page of Whedonesque.com. This is not some fandom-wide campaign, but rather a plea to vote for in this poll by a single guy who spams both the SF Browncoat and SoCal Browncoat listserves every few weeks with the exact same pleas. I've made my peace with having to live with it on the listserves, but the idea of getting to "enjoy" the same spam now on Whedonesque any time Raycheetah comes up with a new angle on why we need to vote in that never-ending poll is annoying.

Yep. You can go to the both of the post archives for either of those listserves on Yahoo! to find both Raycheetah's posts every few weeks and the occasional "why?" response from the peanut gallery (including one recent one from me). I get that some people find polls fun and don't dispute that if there is one that might arguably have some actual relevance, such as a SciFi.com or Entertainment Weekly poll, it's not out of line to link to here. But in this case we're talking about (1) a poll that literally never ends, and (2) serves no apparent purpose other than to generate page views. IMO, Raycheetah's *repetitive* pleas to get people onto the Rich La Bonte's TV Vote site are spam and ought not be afforded the sort of site traffic that we all know Whedonesque.com can generate.

But that's just my opinion, and now having laid out the facts, I'll shut up and be on my merry.

I feel these polls do serve a purpose as they gauge the strength of interest in our various genere series. You know, the internet has become a popular source of information gathering lately.

As for what's deemed to be on our front page, we do not decide that, nor should we. Caroline has the right people in place to make those judgments.

That hardly means we can't have an opinion on the matter. They're moderators, not kings.

ETA that I don't really care whether the poll was posted here specifically, so my beef isn't on that issue. My beef is with the poll itself and the attention it gets in general and the way in which it gets attention.

Nothing linked here is ever beyond the reach of criticism, so it truly escapes me why criticism of this link is being met with such questioning.

lexigeek got me hooked on freerice, and I curse his name as I compulsively play it.

Well, a lot of Browncoats have spent a lot of time voting in the poll, which has been running for seven years, and it is supposed to end in a few weeks. It may not be everybody's cup of tea, but it has been a part of the fandom for many. So I'm willing to cut some slack.

As for this Free Rice site, are we sure it isn't designed to get some deathrow murderer released, like that sneaky Free Hat campaign did a few years ago? Just asking.

AlanD, Don't know anything about that Free Hat campaign, but FreeRice.com has been covered by both the Washington Post and the BBC, was Yahoo!'s Charity Find of the Year, and is even promoted by the UN World Food Program itself, so there's a good chance that it's been vetted by at least one person.

I am glad to hear though that the seemingly never-ending poll will at last be coming to a close. Good luck to those who have been playing along.

I did vote in this poll today a couple of times because I'm hoping that will make it end faster! Whenever this gets posted on the Canadian Browncoats site, I usually just delete it without opening.
