First Sighting and a Five-page Preview of the "Fringe" Comic. Which is written by Zack Whedon and Julia Chow. Also: Zack talks about where the comic's going to go.

First news post, sorry for if it's lacking a little more detail in the heading.

Thanks Rhodey. I beefed up the description a little.
Thanks SoddingNancyTribe. :)
Zack is writing for the show? That's awesome.
This year has really proven to be a Whedon awesome one, who knew that we'd have two other Whedon's to follow?! Fringe is shaping up to be an incredible show, even more so now with a Whedon connection.
Wasn't hugely impressed with the pilot but i'll give it a chance, partly because of Young Zack Whedon's involvement. The comic looks nicely drawn and if it's too early to tell about the writing I at least like the comments about its direction (especially the sort of "weird tales" idea, that could really work - bit like a 'Global Frequency' type of thing and if it's anything like as good as that then count me most definitely in).

More Whedon grist to the obsessive fan mill ;).
Whee, I love the cliché'd "physics guys solving complex equations in front of a black board" thing going on there. You always see that in movies, comics, etcetera. While:

1) I've never actually seen anyone solve a new piece of work on a blackboard (someone might have the important equations to their work up on a blackboard - or rather, a whiteboard - in their office for quick reference, but that's about it :));

2) I've never seen a sollution to an equation so difficult "only five people in the world have solved it" that requires just one blackboard and a few scribbles to solve ;).

I also love the collection of things they're doing in physics class. One relatively easy quantum mechanical subject (time independent perturbation theory, I think I covered in my second year doing astrophysics), one much harder quantum mechanical subject (I only did degenerate fermi systems in my last year in an electoral quantum information class) and one ("natural units") which is so broad (I'm going with the assumption they're using the natural units fitted for quantum mechanics especially) and, above all, simple that it would get nothing more than an out-of-hand mention ("we're using natural units in these equations, look it up if you don't get it") in a course of any level ;).

And here endeth my physics nitpick ;).

Other than that: I think I might actually enjoy these comics more than the show (which didn't overly impress me either with the pilot), though like Saje, I'll be watching this for the episodes penned by Zack Whedon. (It's still strange to see someone quoted with 'Whedon' in an article and it not being Joss, by the way :))
Yeah, these five pages are better than anything in the actual pilot.

The only episodes I'm going to try to watch are those written by Zack.

Oh, I don't agree with this at all. While the pilot isn't amazing, it's a fairly solid pilot. (Although the comic might be better than any of the changes they made to the pilot subsequent to the leaked version.)
I liked the ad for the Terminator series in the comic book. Hadn't seen that Summer Glau promo pic before. Anyone remember the comic book ads for Firefly? They were well cool.
Oooh.

They been running trailers like mad for the show here. I wasn't that excited for it (I remember Alias. I got burnt bad on that on in the end), but well, I might give it a chance. A Whedon and Joshua Jackson. Hmm.

Plus, I totally want the comics. XD
I kinda liked the pilot for Fringe. It certainly did enough to make me want more, which really is all it needed to do. It's not often a pilot episode wows me enough to convince me that the show will be an all-time classic. Buffy's pilot did that. Lost too. Supernatural's pilot came close. Normally, though, it takes a season or two to really have me call myself a true fan. Fringe's pilot episode got me half way there, so that's not too bad.
I have never gotten the idea that Zack would be writing episodes with sole credit. Am I wrong? I saw him as a jr, writer but perhaps I have missed his earlier work.
I've made my thoughts very well-known on .Org, so I won't waste any more time vehemently disagreeing with people I like, but I hated the Fringe pilot so much that I thought "Gone" looked like genius in comparison. And "Gone" is the only episode of Buffy I think is genuinely horrible.
