The Top 20 Scariest Bloodsuckers. This according to FOX News. Spike and Paul Reubens make the list.

#19. JAMES MARSTERS IN BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER: This vampire was so smooth he turned his archenemy, Buffy the (TV) vampire slayer, into his girlfriend. That doesn't suck.

Actually, it's amazing David Boreanaz as Angelus wasn't in there. When he was bad, he has horrid, even more than Spike. But I'm glad Reubens was on the list. Say what you will about the Buffy movie, his best line, "Kill him a lot!", was a keeper...along with his "death scene."

It is kinda funny that they title this "....Scariest Bloodsuckers" then say that Spike was smooth...I guess my definition of scary is different than theirs. But it doesn't matter, I'm for any list that recognizes Spike and gives him his due.

Angelus was evil and scary but fundamentally sissified; most of the horror was, I think, from our remembering the character who used to wear David's face.

I always found Angelus to be 'showy-scary' (e.g., let's telegraph what I'm likely to do so you can prepare) whereas Spike was scary because he was so unpredictable (e.g., let's string up the annoying one in the sun because he is so... well, annoying). I find the latter much scarier, since one is always reacting rather than planning, but to each his (or her) own.
