^^ I completely agree. I couldn't get through much without my head hurting. Maybe that's a good thing though? This way we won't be spoiled when the episode does air...or at least until someone else posts a summary. Or the pilot leaks... ;)

Whoot! A dialogular shout-out to Michelangelo's artistic Neoplatonism!

Michelangelo believed that the artist's function was to bring preexistent forms out of the material at hand: "the greatest artist has no conception which a single block of marble does not potentially contain within its mass, but only a hand which obeys the intelleto can accomplish that" (Clements 16). Art forms, or the concetto, exist independently of the artist, and are implanted in matter by nature. The artist's function was to draw these forms out of the material.

How utterly thematic! On the Love v. Domination continuum that I insist on seeing in Buffy Season 8 and life, Neoplatonism is a nice artistic metaphor for seeing and midwifing* into existence the potential beauty and strength of the individual. Wiping out their identities and programming them to do one's bidding would be the other thing. To an extreme.

*Which may be how the first scene ties in with the rest of the ep. Just guessing.

I was going to be good. Restrained, even. No Dollhouse spoilers for me! Nope. So of course I read the article, only to find...

On one level...punishment for being weak in the face of spoilers, and on the other hand...Yay, we're close enough to the January air date for spoilers!

Okay, I published this article, and I just wanted to correct myself and make a fool out of myself before somebody else does: I don't think this is, in fact, the first episode. It was screened by Fox to people as that, but from what I can work out this was shot as episode two. I've no idea, air wise, if it will end up going out on air as episode two.

Also, in terms of writing style - I thought, personally, it was great fun. It was nice to see an alternative take on something to 'OMG Whedon *splurge*'.

So, FOX called it the first episode, but it was shot as the second? Okay, I'm not one of those panic meter/Firefly comparison people, but I can see why they'd maybe think the way they do.
