Want to know how long I owned my HD-DVD player before Blu-ray won the format war? Three days. I couldn't have just waited another three days.

Well he couldn't have got his info from the FoxHome.com website*. There's bugger all mention of it there. No Buffy either which is odd considering the fortune 20th Century Fox must have made from it. Angel though does get a look in.

How long until the Firefly cast reunion thing ends up on Youtube? I've got HD-DVD, and now can't afford Blu-Ray due to some economic troubles you may have heard about on the back pages of the papers.

I'd love to see Firefly on Blu-Ray. Oh wait, I don't have a blu-ray player. Damn these economic times. I'd also like to see Buffy and Angel out on blu-ray. Any movement on that score?

Having actually seen Serenity an unprecedented three times in the theater, I must admit some curiosity to see what this edition would look like on the reasonably large screen in my living room. Still, given the history of technology I'm just cynical enough to hurry up and wait to see what happens next.

Also, I believe Ron Paul made numerous references to "damn purplebellies".

For $70, I think I'm saving my money for the Serenity BR...more chance of the studio noticing increased revenue and interest in the series...FOX just wants our money and they will continue to cancel great shows

lax01, the executive who greenlit Serenity at Universal doesn't work there anymore. There is zero chance that Uni will greenlight a sequel. And you do realize that Fox (the network) and 20th Century Fox (the studio and home entertainment) operate as separate companies. Right?

I'd say there was definitely NOT any major effort to publicize this because I didn't even know it was out until this week. In fact, I browsed the Target weekly circular on Sunday and totally didn't notice this on the page...I think if it wasn't Firefly, I wouldn't be buying it on Blu-Ray. Blu-Ray is still extremely expensive, and we're only buying things we really like on hi-def...we don't have a hi-def TV yet, but we're thinking ahead.

Target.com has the circular advertised on the left side of the main page. If you click on it and flip to the DVD section, it's a whopping $67.99 or $69.99 (I can't remember which one) and I'm not sure why, but it also says in small print that the DVD isn't offered online, only through stores. Odd, isn't it?

Firefly BluRay listed on IMDB's New Releases Box Sets page.

It is far enough down that it doesn't make their list on the front page, unfortunately. But at least it's there!

We're holding off on buying the larger sets of BluRay right now. But I guess it's something I can add to my want list for Christmas time. I'd love to see some of the episodes in hi-def...

Simon, it is a real shame about the old official site. And what is up with the bugger all on Fox's page (hard to navigate through that mess, too)? They make it but don't want to sell it? You really didn't see that coming? Blu-ray had beaten HD-DVD in disc sales every single week for over a year at that point, plus the fact that Toshiba was giving up the format had been leaked as a rumour several days previous. But then, I go on www.highdefdigest.com daily, so it's perfectly understandable that you wouldn't have known and I would. My condolences.

As an Aussie, I'm glad that the set is able to be played on my Region B PS3 - according to EzyDVD, an Australian Firefly Blu-ray will be out in December for AU$79.95, but I'd prefer to get whatever version doesn't have the garish Oz ratings sticker on it. This is Firefly, after all.

I eschewed numbers and went with a more technical approach of observing which format had a bigger/nicer display in Blockbuster, Best Buy, etc, and at the places I was visiting, HD-DVD won. :(

I got an HD player when they went down to $100 + five movies last Thanksgiving.... I have a healthy collection of HD DVD's and love them... I picked up a Blu-Ray player last Chrismas for just about $200... I still think that my HD player works better... oh well... I'm looking forward to getting Firefly on Blu-Ray, and Serenity next month...
