No Buffy movie says Tony Head. He shoots down those recent rumours. And if you were wondering about Ripper, well it seems to be dead in the water according to what Joss said in his Write Environment interview.

Okay, hands up anyone here who actually needed confirmation that there wasn't going to be a Buffy movie happening anytime soon?

All of you who put your hands up, the fairy boat to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow leaves in half an hour. Run or you'll miss it. ;)

Always nice to hear from Tony though. I've never been in any doubt that should anything ever happen with regards to another Buffy project, he'd be there. Just a shame that Ripper isn't going to be it. Dumb red tape and dumber legal type people that use the red tape to make potential awesome television all sticky and red.
I always wondered how Ripper would work anyway. Would it be a kinda one-man Torchwood or something? How would it relate to the ongoing comic series? Guess we'll probably never know...
I've always been qurious about Ripper for that reason. How the **** would it turn out!?

But it would be fun to have a Buffy/Torchwood crossover. After all Cardif has its own Hellmouth ; )
There're a lot of ways 'Ripper' could work, from a sort of ghost hunter thing to more a paranormal private eye sort of idea. I always pictured it as a lot like 'Strange' but set in the Buffyverse (in fact, I often wondered if 'Strange' coming along and not doing exactly brilliantly might've scuppered 'Ripper' back when the iron was a bit hotter).

Joss' word on it didn't seem 100% final to me BTW, just not in the near (or even forseeable) future. So final-ish but not final-final.

All of you who put your hands up, the fairy boat to the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow leaves in half an hour. Run or you'll miss it. ;)

For God's sake man, which quay does it leave from ?!?
Joss' word on it didn't seem 100% final to me BTW, just not in the near (or even forseeable) future.

Which, let's face it, has been Joss' word on it pretty much since 2001 (Comic-Con '07 excepted).
It was always fairly obvious to the non dreamers that neither of these things would come to pass.
Wishful people really deserve to burn in hell, and fairies for running such a tight schedule.

Decoupling Tony from Giles will take some time for me if that thing won’t be Ripper, but that is a silly concern in the great scheme of things.
Gossi wil be so disappointed. It was a good rumor while it lasted, man ;).
"Wishful people really deserve to burn in hell..."

Probably wouldn't go as far as that. Maybe just a slightly nasty chinese burn for the really wishful types. ;)
Oh no! Doom befalls us all! I was certain it was true this time and therefore it is time to cry myself to sleep at night for at least 2.35 weeks.

Or I mean: heh, yeah, good work Gossi ;). I even ran into the rumor on Dutch entertainment sites this week.
Good call Saje, I liked Strange. But wished Richard Coyle hadn't left Coupling to do it.
Ahh, Coupling... "You're shaking the caravan, Jeffrey!".
You're hard on wishful people ! It almost seems like you wouldn't like to see a buffy movie.
Yes, it isn't likely that we will have a buffy movie soon, but it would be nice anyway and we should say it more often.
I think it would be really cool to do a Buffy movie in about 10 years...take a page out of the Promethea story book. SMG has a smallish role as the mystical trainer for a new slayer. We see snapshots into the trials and tribulations of a newly called slayer. Ripper could head up an all new watchers council with half the arrogance and twice the tea. They would have to throw in a few Quentin TraversESQE lines for Tony. (At least let him say, "She's a god.")
I don't think anyone would disagree with you, Léo. We'd all like to see a Buffy movie. It's just that, knowing how these rumours began based on nothing more than random internet speculation in the first place, hearing confirmation that they weren't actually true is kinda like reading an article confirming that Firefly has been axed but there has been a movie version of the show made, called Serenity. Not actually news, y'know?

I really can't imagine that many Whedon fans would be against the idea of a Buffy movie happening. We're just having a little poke at the fact this particular rumour had absolutely no factual basis, is all. ;)
Yes, gossi, you read that right: "absolutely no factual basis", is what Highlander wrote. Are you just going to let that pass?

*steps back*

I totally should've applied for the ELE ;)
Joss: The circle is now complete. When I left Fox, I was but the tired, oppressed writer. Now I am the master!

Fox: Dude, we put Dollhouse on Fridays. Fridays! Get over yourself. Oh, and no matter how your fans want it, no matter how many bushels of money you shove in our faces, we're not reviving Buffy. Period.

Fans: If you strike the Buffy movie rumors down, they will become more powerful than either of you can possibly imagine.

Joss: (to Fox) See? The fans won't let me leave her! Why won't they let me leeeeaavve?!?
I should point out that my "no factual basis" comment was in no way supposed to hurt gossi's feelings. It was not my intent to play any part in causing a grown man to "Wah!"...

;)
I would think he would be happy about it because the truth is that there was no factual basis and gossi is a factual guy. Which is to say that he does, in fact, exist. Or something.
Clearly this calls for a Ripper miniseries in comic form.
No Ripper = Balls!

Ahem.
Me personally ? I'd rather never see 'ripper' and 'balls' in the same sentence again. Ever ever ever *fingers in ears, la la la, goes to happy place where legs are permanently crossed*.

Which is to say that he does, in fact, exist. Or something.

He 'Wah!'s therefore he is.
Crybaby ergo sum?
Oh Saje, you menfolk are so thenthative... But I'm sorry nonetheless.
No Ripper = Balls or Ripper = No Balls?

“Maybe just a slightly nasty chinese burn for the really wishful types”

Yeah O.K. a little bit harsh. But I at least think a spanking is in order. ;)

” You're hard on wishful people ! It almost seems like you wouldn't like to see a buffy movie”

Au contraire, mon ami. It just helps to be a little silly about it when you want something and know you’re not going to get it.

I don't care what ANYONE says, I will not believe the BUFFY movie is dead until I'm sitting in a theater having not bought a ticket for it and not watching it because it doesn't exist.
OMG, it's that thing that's rare as a Unicorn! The ultimate optimist!! :: Runs away screaming in total horror ::
giggles

Yes, Tony loves to swear. In fact, he's gotten in trouble a few times at conventions because of his "potty mouth" - he told us @MotorCityBuffy that he actually had a lady get up, take her child by the hand, and leave in the middle of one of his Q&A sessions because of his language.

Personally, I'm not a fan of rough language. The occasional "damn" or "hell" isn't bad. But dropping the F-bomb just because you can...really? What's the need?

I heard a character on a cop show the other night say "jackhole." Huh?

Now, as far as the movie...Tony only said it's not happening now, not that it's not happening ever. It will happen; Joss just has to find the time to read the script.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to try to catch that goat...
I blame Tony's language on Manchild ... okay, maybe not.
I believe in foul swearing and blaspheming whenever and however I can, in whatever circumstances whatsoever, in at least three or four languages, and especially when there are little, tiny, fragile, impressionable children around.

Sorry, but that's just the way I feel. YMMV.
I don't care what ANYONE says, I will not believe the BUFFY movie is dead until I'm sitting in a theater having not bought a ticket for it and not watching it because it doesn't exist.

Dude, you did that last week - I saw you!
Sorry, but that's just the way I feel.

!@#$ you, you !@#$ing !@#$. How the !@#$ can you possibly !@#$ing feel that way? Un!@#$ingbelievable.
I £$@#!?*!!£ because I care.
My 'Wah!' was for the chain of events I managed to somehow start. From posting an article saying 'They should make a Buffy movie, please thanks bye', to ending up in a newspaper as a Hollywood Insider (?!?!), to the story ending up on the radio, to the story ending up all over the internet, to Tony Head ringing Joss (!) about it...

Wah!

They should make Speed 3: Rumour Control. (It would still be better than 2).
I don't really care what Tony says. He's not a writer or producer--he's not involved in the creative process. It's Joss who will determine whether or not a movie will occur, which I do see happening in the next five years.
To be clear, Riker - the rumour he's refering to is one I accidentally started online by saying there should be a Buffy movie. The press ran with it and, well, ran with it. Despite it being a Whedonesque posters opinion. I'm a guy who works for a company which sells tinned tuna.
You don't care what Tony says even when what Tony is saying is that Joss (who, as you say, will determine) told him so?

Honestly, I'd love Ripper, but just ASH matched with Joss's words is good enough for me. So I hope that thing he talked about in the Write Environment works out.
You don't care what Tony says even when what Tony is saying is that Joss (who, as you say, will determine) told him so?

Exactly. Until I hear it from Joss that he told Tony what Tony says Joss told him he said I just won't believe that Brian Lynch hasn't already not seen an advanced screening of the Buffy movie during which he ate a bucket of popcorn that, had it been real, would've gone straight to his thighs. Anything less concrete is just hearsay.

My 'Wah!' was for the chain of events I managed to somehow start...

Whatever dude, you still exist and it's no good trying to wriggle out of it.
to ending up in a newspaper as a Hollywood Insider (?!?!)

To be fair, you gave your name as Hollywood J. Insider and they just shortened it. Plus, as Saje pointed out that I pointed out, you do exist.
gossi: "Wah!"
Highlander, Saje, gossi: "Wah! Wah! Wah! Wah!"

Hey, y'know, if this was 1957, we might have a #1 hit!

Re language: !@#$ it, I just want my !@#$ing movie...
(Yes, I talk that way in real life. Which is remarkable, considering how difficult it is to pronounce "!@#$".)
It sounds just like 'fuck' if that's any help.
"I believe in foul swearing and blaspheming whenever and however I can, in whatever circumstances whatsoever, in at least three or four languages, and especially when there are little, tiny, fragile, impressionable children around."

Love the way you think. And, apparently, talk... ;)

Got to admit, I'm not exactly someone who cares about bad language either. I don't go out of my way to swear at every possible opportunity but I probably do swear a lot more than most and I certainly don't care about hearing other people swearing. Just doesn't phase me at all. I'm like a walking Die Hard movie, only with less explosions. Usually.

"You don't care what Tony says even when what Tony is saying is that Joss (who, as you say, will determine) told him so?"

Was just thinking the exact same thing. Not hard to see how these rumours thrive when people can ignore facts that come directly from the Big Purple, just because those facts happen to come from someone else's mouth.

I guess if it's not directly from Joss then it's not canon truth. ;)
Saje re: gossi Whatever dude, you still exist and it's no good trying to wriggle out of it.

I have yet to see proof of his so-called exsistence.
I have yet to see proof of his so-called exsistence.

Proof.
Ahh, I can see the ganging-up has already begun. Good job, guys!
Being ganged up on around here is a sign of love :). The Canadian equivalent is that most romantic of phrases, "I would prorogue Parliament for you!". Seriously, if you felt picked on, I'm sure those at fault will freely apologize (hint hint).
Proof.

INVISIBLE WEIGHTS!

Also, sorry Riker - I didn't mean to get at you personally.
Proof.

Obviously as photoshopped as the moon landings. I deny your "proof". I mean, what real person holds invisible weights!? I won't belive in gossi till I see him drunk in person.
Or hear him "Wah!" live.
Wasn't that photo taken one or two seconds before gossi achieved canonization glorification sanctification insubstantiation and floated off into the ether?

l believe I caught that moment on my cell phone. And if he is now incorporeal, to what extent or in what form can he really be said to "exist"?

Show your work, please.
When I'm drunk I generally Wah, Saje and NYPinTA.
Point of order; he actually tran-substantiated.
Of course there's not going to be a Buffy movie. Joss is too busy making the Serenity sequel.

Actually I've had to loosen the hold on my belief in a Serenity sequel to make room for my "They didn't cancel Pushing Daisies" denial.
zeitgeist: "Point of order; he actually tran-substantiated."

Into what - the body and blood, or like, chocolate?
Given who we're talking about, probably wine :).
Tranny-substantiated?
I knew you'd come through for me with soemthing like that, faux-Beiderbecke. Cheers.
I personally didn't watch a nonexistent Buffy movie just last night. And it didn't happen while I was not doing the dinner dishes either.
What a fascinating turn of non-events.
Saje:
It sounds just like 'fuck' if that's any help.

Ah - see, that's what I get for learning to read phonetically. Which shouldn't matter, since this entire thread isn't happening, anyway...
This is a thread? I thought it were a topic. Full of mystifying symbols.
This is not a post.
One thing that's probably changed due to the passage of time and non-project-happening is that the "Ripper" story probably takes place later than it would have if we had gotten it way back in whatever year it was when Joss first started saying "Ripper" and "BBC" in the same sentence (during Buffy Season 4 ? It seems like it was that early. I'm pretty sure that, aside from Angel, it's the earliest we ever heard of a potential spin-off project, not counting Dark Horse comics). Maybe it would've been a prequel or between-the-seasons thing a while back, maybe we could've seen some of Giles' Season 6 adventures during his absence from Sunnydale. If it happens any time in the next few years, I can see it being set during Season 8.
Tonya J:
This is a thread? I thought it were a topic.

It were a topic, but then it got off-topic. Now it's a thread. I can tell because so far, it's keeping me in stitches.
There is no post. Only tangly tangly threads leading nowhere and everywhere.
But there IS cheese. (No matter which way you cut it...)
Now, missb, that's just cheesy.
Are we suggesting this thread has something to do with string cheese?
Well there was that incident.
I was waiting for someone else to say that. Haha...
OMG. LOOK at what I miss when I actually do work! Remind me not to do THAT again. *shivers*

RE: QuoterGal's captured moment... are we sure he isn't becoming a PTB? In that case, gossi could be privy to events that may or may not happen in the somewhat near future. Or he could be harvesting evil that will promote world peace. It could go either way.

They should make Speed 3: Rumour Control. (It would still be better than 2).

Are you saying that there's a Speed 3?? And Keanu is reviving his role after the success of The Day the Earth Stood Still? Awesome! Must report!

My 'Wah!' was for the chain of events I managed to somehow start. From posting an article saying 'They should make a Buffy movie, please thanks bye', to ending up in a newspaper as a Hollywood Insider (?!?!), to the story ending up on the radio, to the story ending up all over the internet, to Tony Head ringing Joss (!) about it...

gossi, I didn't know a man who sold tinned tuna could hold so much power. Or have such wonderful connections to Joss & Dollhouse. Are you mafia-supplying them with tuna at Kraft Services??? Is that how you have the slightly-altered inside scoop?

Being ganged up on around here is a sign of love :).

So... this is a gang bang?

And, serious question here, why is "fuck" so damaging to the ears? If long ago they decided that the word "shoe" was foul, and "fucks" were what we wore on our feet, would we feel differently about it?

Example:

WheFan 1: "Oh, I love your high-heeled fucks! Is it hard to walk though?"

WheFan 2: "Ah, no, I love them. I'm a little sore, though. Just bought them. Still need to break them in."

WheFan 1: "Where'd you get the fucks? I'd love to buy some!"

WheFan 2: "At the Payless Fuck Store."

WheFan 1: "Shoe! Really? I love that store!"

WheFan 2: "Please don't use that word. It hurts my fragile ears."

...

Have I curdled this cheesy thread yet?
Nah, but it looks to be well toasted...
