Nathan Fillion auditioned for Farscape. Revealed in an interview with Farscape's lead Ben Browder.

Very Well said:

GW: He auditioned for "Crichton," too?

BB: He had auditioned for "Crichton" as well. I was saying, "How come everything I go out for you get?" And he goes, "I auditioned for Farscape!" I go, "No, you didn't!" "Yes, I did!" So, there you go. The one that got away from Nathan.

GW: Did you audition for Firefly?

BB: No, I was still working on Farscape at the time. But Nathan was great in that.

GW: Oh, It's a fabulous show.

BB: I don't think anyone could have done it any better.

GW: Nah. And isn't it such a shame? All of these things come into play, but it's not necessarily the great television shows that survive?

BB: It's not a meritocracy.

GW: Yeah, it's just business.

BB: I suppose so.

Yeah, I don't know who it was in another thread that said it, but they really would be kind of awesome together, if someone can find a project for them to do.

ETA that, or, you know, they could cast BB as another superhero in the eventual, one day Dr. Horrible sequel. Can he sing?

Now I'm wondering what roles Nathan got that Ben Browder wanted?
Perhaps BB's Buchananity (or whatever the word was) wasn't very high.
Those must have been tough calls to make. The only actor whose Buchananity is comparable to Nathan's is Ben Browder.
:: Ponders ::

I've got it! We need Joss to write a Whedonverse remake of The Sons Of Katie Elder starring Ben Browder, Michael Shanks, Nathan Fillion and Neil Patrick Harris in the titular roles.

...

Um.

OK, I'll go now.
Grotesk said "titular".

*snicker*
Dirty Old b!X has a serious case of boobies on the brain today.
It's not my fault. I keep reading threads and seeing nipples mentioned. Now I see them everywhere.
Better that than the mental image of Jeremy Piven's "garden" that I'm currently trying to scrub from my brain. Thanks for that.
I'm really glad things worked out the way they did though because I love Farscape and Firefly just they way they are. Perfect casting all around and great shows, it's just unfortunate Firefly didn't get to go as long as Farscape.

P.S. check out the Farscape comics if you're a fan because the first one was good.
Can he sing?

He sang a little in bits on Farscape when Crichton was crazy, if I recall right. I don't think he has quite Nathan-level pipes, but he can carry a tune. I think he would work out fine in any Mutant Enemy musical, especially with Nathan and Neil.
Its purely hypothetical, but I dont think either show would have been nearly as good it the roles were reversed. That is, Natan Filion as Crichton and Ben Browder as Mal.

Just the tought of it makes me cringe. Luckely for all of us the right person ended up in the right place. Now they are both great.
P.S. check out the Farscape comics if you're a fan because the first one was good.

I think this is one of the best consequences of Buffy season 8.
I am not saying that that first issue of the Farscape comic was as good an issue of Buffy season 8, but it definitely had the same feel of being honestly like the show. It felt like Farscape, just as much as Buffy season 8 fells like Buffy.
God I miss FarScape.
