Kaylee pops up in Scott "Basic Instructions" Meyer's fantasy. In Scott Meyers' "Basic Instructions" webcomic, he explains how to go to your mental happy place where several familiar-looking people are waiting. "Basic Instructions" does not often dip into sci-fi, but it's well worth reading anyway. I didn't know how to do half this stuff...

I liked the cartoon, CA. But I'm not sure who the scifi fantasy chicks were supposed to be.
kaylee (obiously), plus sharon/boomer/athena from Battlestar and the chiana from farscape
I can't believe so many people are having a hard time recognising these characters. The one on the left is Sharon from BSG, the middle one is Kaylee, and the one on the right is some alienish woman from Farscape. I don't even watch Farscape, and I immediately recognised the character.

Funny comic, but I thought Whedonesque had a thing about webcomics as news posts.

Looks like I wasn't fast enough.

Well, I'm not very smart. I should have recognized Kaylee by her parasol. But I didn't.
Um, Racoon Boy, not everyone in the known 'verse has seen even promos of either of those shows, so it's not necessarily a given that they'd recognize the characters, let alone know names.
I probably watch too much sci fi then :) I spotted all three instantly. Sharon (Boomer) of BSG, Kaylee (of course), and Chiana of Farscape (a really good and different series). Nice comic!
I just find it weird that some people over there aren't sure. They say things like "I think it might be Kaylee from Firefly, but I'm not sure". It's just weird that people who know the character's have a hard time recognising them. Obviously if you've barely ever seen them before, it makes sense that you wouldn't know who they are.
Well, y'know Boomer's the obvious reach but my own reader response interpretation is that that's Shane from 'Space: Above and Beyond'. Cos Shane don't get no love no mo' but she'll always occupy an airlock in my heart ;).

And "Take me incompetently" made me laugh out loud. At work. My boss is looking at me funny ;).

In general that's a really nicely executed, funny strip, good work.
There's a thing about webcomic posts? If so I was unaware, and I apologize. Is there?
I think we had a bit of a run on them a while ago and the connections were getting thinner and thinner and so The Mods That Be decided to dial it back a bit. It's not an actual thing I reckon, it's more thingesque ;).

It is, indeed, thing-esque. If the volume rises and the connections thin, then it will become a Full Fledged Thing ;).
Once in a blue moon is fine but you wouldn't want to them become a number ten bus where three turn up at the same time.
hehe, I love Basic Instructions.

Saje, I totally love 'Space: Above and Beyond' and Shane. I was very upset when they cancelled it.
Yeah and on such a big cliff-hanger ! Though I didn't realise it at the time, that was probably my first experience of a Fox killed show.

(not a perfect show but when it was good it was really good, kinda BSG before BSG)
Agreed all around.

I loved that the actors then started appearing on the X-Files one by one. It was like training for spot the Whedon alum guest star spot. :-)
