Joss Whedon Retrospective at A set of top 5 lists pertaining to Joss's career.

It seemed to me they were really reaching for the third list, but it was cutely written nonetheless, and I enjoyed the other two quite a bit. Mal would head up any list of top characters for me, but I'm surprisingly pretty happy with that line-up, too.
As for the Best ever Whedon episodes ....

Firefly: Hard to argue with Objects in Space

Angel: To Shanshu in L.A. is an interesting choice. Not necessarily my choice, but on the other hand, I've always thought it to be an underrated ep.

Buffy: It irritates me no end that they couldn't find one post-high school ep, out of the many awesome ones. Sure, both innocence and Becoming pt2 are obvious contenders.
But getting past the high school years, we have (in chronological order) such gems as Who are You, Pangs, Hush, Restless, Fool For Love, The Body, The Gift, OMWF, Tabula Rasa, Dead Things, Normal Again, Beneath You, Selfless, Conversations With Dead People and Sleeper.
Bah humbug to lists that never recognize that for BtS, there was more life after high school than during.
I think their problem with being able to choose the really juicy later episodes was that they don't have access to them via hulu fancast, since later seasons aren't available by that medium. Firefly's up in its entirety, so they could choose any episode they wanted. I would have gone with Out of Gas, personally. Can anyone tell I like me some Fillion?
