I'm not going to vote but in Joss' defense of some comments there, no, he doesn't have a blog. However, he writes the most stunningly evocative and beautiful stand-alone statements/comments here and elsewhere, along with the silly, and profoundly geeky. If he had a blog (and I feel as though I should do a filk right now based on "If I only had a Brain"), I'm sorry, as much as I love Wil and I do, Joss would be the uber Secretary of Geekdom of the planet. I mean, have you heard his attempts to talk to Bernadette Peters? Come on, now. :=)

While I love most/all things Joss, I see WW as the best fit in this role. Not saying that Joss couldn't take it, add his flavor and make it awesome, but in my mind I see WW taking that fictional role and running with it.

Plus, I rather have Joss spend time working his creative juices and molding it into something awesome.

Actually, now that I think about it, we should have Joss be the Secretary of DoGA and have WW be the deputy Secretary of DoGA.

Well if the vote is about who has done the most interesting/important work within the last year, I think there would be no contest. But it is true that Wheaton has had more screen time.

Harumph. The two actual living non-fictional persons on the list, who are actually qualified for some sort of serious administration job, and actually have some remote chance of getting it (Larry Lessig and Vint Cerf) both lost in the first round. I guess you could plausibly extend that list to include Bill Gates, Paul Allen and the Steves, but they didn't get all that far either.

As geeky-cool as Wil Wheaton may be, this "contest" lost any semblance of respectibility the second he beat out Bruce Campbell. The whole thing is completely and utterly invalidated by that.

Sorry guys. I have to agree with the person there who said Wil would embrace this more than Joss would. When Joss got too busy with his TV/Movies he would fall behind in his Secretary of Geek Affairs just like he did when he was writing the Fray comic. I love you, Joss, but come on, you know it's true!

Wil gets my vote.

Oh, man, that would be so awesome if Obama did set up a Department of Geek Affairs. Doesn't he like Star Trek or something? Obama's a geek!

This is hard. I've been a fan of Joss' for far longer than I've been a fan of Wil's but I am leaning towards voting for him since he blogs and tweets and all that. I think he'd be better. Joss should focus on Dollhouse and Dr Horrible and Cabin in the woods and Goners and all that.

As much as I'm a fan of ol' Joe Sweden, I'm gonna have to go with Wheaton on this one. Both of them are perfectly geeky guys that are a ton of fun to be around, so it was a hard choice. But, I think that Wil has better hair. ;)

Sunfire gets it. They won't actually have to do the work, so time issues or some such do not matter. This is a popularity contest, and I'm voting Whedon.

Pretty impressive though, that he made it to the finale without the awesome power of whedonesque behind him. Or did we have previous "battles" posted here that I've missed?

I'm sorry, why are we bad sports for voting for Joss? I don't get that. Seems to me that the vast majority of posts at the site are from Will Wheaton supporters, and none of the pro-Joss ones seemed particularly mean about Will as far as I could see.

No one from here, embers. There are some comments at that site that went to lengths to say why Joss is so much better than Wil. Maybe he was joking when he said what he said at Twitter, but I don't know. I took it at face value he was a bit sensitive about it.

Do you mean the comments on the voting page, or somewhere else? Because on the voting page, there are many more people saying they voted for Wil, not Joss. And several who admit that they love Joss, but STILL voted for Wil. I'm just not seeing the hate.

Don't mean to be nitpicky, but the tag is incorrect. Wil only has one "l".

And while Joss is my master, Wil is far and away the more geeky. And he understands issues that are important to his fellow geeks, like why DRM is very very bad. That sort of thing is not even on Joss's radar. So I know who my vote goes with.

Is Joss a geek? I've never thought that. Hm...
However Wil clearly IS, he built his own website. He used to (may still be doing for all i know) write his own html in notepad to update the site. He does weird and wonderful things with computers that I doubt Joss could (and he's on twitter!) - so I think Wil clearly is the bigger geek.

Since his main site (WWDN in Exile) is now at typepad, it is no longer the case, though I do love him for having done so. I used to update my original site in vi remotely. Joss is a geek icon and a story/literary/film/musical theatre, Wil is a dyed-in-the-wool geek in more traditional senses.
