Is this an April Fool's Day joke? Has this been perpetuated by the Conficker virus?

This is a great idea, I always thought the conservative overtones on Firefly weren't strong enough, here's FOX's chance to promote Sarah Palin as the new head of the family-friendly Alliance!

Somehow the idea of fooling people doesn't strike me as good-natured fun, so for the next 24 hours, the internet (along with 99% of my friends and family) doesn't exist to me. But THAT being said: I vote a sequel to Firefly set in the future, with Mark-Paul Gosselaar as the male-Companion son of Mal and Inara, and Dustin Diamond can be River's long lost twin, and... what? It'll work, I tells ya!

Ugh. I've seen lots of these winking smiley faces (WSF) around here lately. I know Saje loves to use the WSF in many of his posts. IMO, his use of the WSF is used most effectively when posting an opposing opinion to another member. For example, I’ve seen him destroy other posters with his scathing wit and then end his post with a WSM…to me, many times it reads, Don’t F*ck With Me. I’ve personally been on the receiving end of more than a couple WSM’s. I’ve seen other people on the receiving end of a WSF get upset and call the act itself “condescending.” I remember Saje opened a whole truckload of whoop-ass on that guy…hysterically enough (for me at least), I think he ended with yet another WSM.

Believe me I wouldn’t want to match wits with our man Saje b/c not only does he run literary circles around me but those WSM’s can be more wounding than a stake to the heart. However, more and more I’m seeing snarky comments masked with a post script WSF (i.e. see b!x’s post above).

Since the only internet authority I could find says the WSF means “take with a grain of salt.” I have to wonder why this notation has become so popular and often times quite misleading. Is it because this website is awesome and refuses to accept BS quibbling among members? I think so. But if these wanton acts of misleading behavior continue, where will it all end?

I guess what I’m saying is that we should all consider garnishing our winking smiley faces and the PTB (our friends in gold) need to consider placing the dreaded WSF right alongside the ban on “shipping” in the Whedonesque tos.

(I really, really wish there was a clear, well-thought out reason for me winkying everyone - I used to use a winky for 'meant in a friendly manner/don't take it seriously' and a ;-) for an actual explicit joke, now not so much - but the fact of the matter is, i'm just too lazy to use shift. Nah, that's not a smiley (cos it's not smiling ;). I have some standards.

Fair point though, I may see how I go with holding shift a second earlier to cover the colon. That sounds like it might not be too hard (it actually kinda is though - just tried a few - so old habits may die not at all).
