April 01 2009

Firefly to be remade by FOX. Steven Bochco will executive produce, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar will play Captain Mal Reynolds.

Is this an April Fool's Day joke? Has this been perpetuated by the Conficker virus?
This is a great idea, I always thought the conservative overtones on Firefly weren't strong enough, here's FOX's chance to promote Sarah Palin as the new head of the family-friendly Alliance!

;)
Good one. Though if it were true... *shiver*
Love the photoshopped "Mal" pic. Been waiting for some 4-1 pranks.
I was wondering what the whendonesque April Fool's joke would be!
If there's one thing I can't stand, it's 4/1 jokes that don't have the balls to stick to it. Skimpy to begin with and then they can't maintain? Lame.

Jeez, stop with the April Fools' stuff already. I always know that's what it is, but everytime I see the word 'cancelled' or something I get heart palpitations anyway. I'm looking at you, Jed.

Plust it's four hours into the next day here. I don't deserve this kind of treatment.
you REALLY REALLY scared me there for a minute

Stay off the Internet until the rest of us are done, then? ;)
Maybe you should at least remove the tags so people won't be confused when they search for 'firefly' on here.
Arrrggggghhh! Can't anyone ever write "they're" correctly? It's not there or their. Duh! Sorry, my bitter pill just kicked in.
Well lets hope they hire some attractive actresses this time!

/I'll get me coat.
Haha, nice April Fool's joke. ;)
That's just mean. Much like the false preview for a Legend of Zelda movie.

There was a Twitter one.

We had one very bad "joke" that maintain itself for some decades.
Somehow the idea of fooling people doesn't strike me as good-natured fun, so for the next 24 hours, the internet (along with 99% of my friends and family) doesn't exist to me. But THAT being said: I vote a sequel to Firefly set in the future, with Mark-Paul Gosselaar as the male-Companion son of Mal and Inara, and Dustin Diamond can be River's long lost twin, and... what? It'll work, I tells ya!
The "Fox Cancels Joss" link gets removed but this one doesn't? I don't get it. This 'joke' isn't even that good...
The Fox cancels Joss talked about Joss' death (suicide), so I can understand.

We've been having fun over at Jossd.com with the pranks. I love April Fool's.
Ugh. I've seen lots of these winking smiley faces (WSF) around here lately. I know Saje loves to use the WSF in many of his posts. IMO, his use of the WSF is used most effectively when posting an opposing opinion to another member. For example, I’ve seen him destroy other posters with his scathing wit and then end his post with a WSM…to me, many times it reads, Don’t F*ck With Me. I’ve personally been on the receiving end of more than a couple WSM’s. I’ve seen other people on the receiving end of a WSF get upset and call the act itself “condescending.” I remember Saje opened a whole truckload of whoop-ass on that guy…hysterically enough (for me at least), I think he ended with yet another WSM.

Believe me I wouldn’t want to match wits with our man Saje b/c not only does he run literary circles around me but those WSM’s can be more wounding than a stake to the heart. However, more and more I’m seeing snarky comments masked with a post script WSF (i.e. see b!x’s post above).

Since the only internet authority I could find says the WSF means “take with a grain of salt.” I have to wonder why this notation has become so popular and often times quite misleading. Is it because this website is awesome and refuses to accept BS quibbling among members? I think so. But if these wanton acts of misleading behavior continue, where will it all end?

I guess what I’m saying is that we should all consider garnishing our winking smiley faces and the PTB (our friends in gold) need to consider placing the dreaded WSF right alongside the ban on “shipping” in the Whedonesque tos.

Yes, b!x, I’m lame too. This was a 4-1 joke ;)

No fair admitting you're lame, it leaves me nothing to do!
I'm sure you'll find something, b!x. *resists urge to use WSF*

At your request, I will garnish mine with a fresh sprig of parsley. ;-)
Sounds like a waste of my thyme.
You guys are just trying to bait Sage Saje.
Yeah, I knew as soon as I saw the headline that this was an April Fools joke. Wasn't expecting to see Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Mal, though. Oh man, can you imagine? hehe.

All we need is a Rosemary and we have a band - 'The Spice Racket' ?

And trust me, the WSF is the SF of the future ... ;).

(I really, really wish there was a clear, well-thought out reason for me winkying everyone - I used to use a winky for 'meant in a friendly manner/don't take it seriously' and a ;-) for an actual explicit joke, now not so much - but the fact of the matter is, i'm just too lazy to use shift. Yes, I have a lazy colon)
If that was the case, then shouldn't all your smilies look like ;0?
jeez had me going for a while there
Somebody get a rope. :D
Aww, c'mon, I don't know if this more pathetic as a joke or as reality....
If that was the case, then shouldn't all your smilies look like ;0?

Nah, that's not a smiley (cos it's not smiling ;). I have some standards.

Fair point though, I may see how I go with holding shift a second earlier to cover the colon. That sounds like it might not be too hard (it actually kinda is though - just tried a few - so old habits may die not at all).
If that was the case, then shouldn't all your smilies look like ;0?

Ha ha that cracked me up! I love the combination of knowing wink and open-mouthed amazement.
Being knowingly amazed is very 21st century.
I always thought Saje had a tic. :)
I had to look up Mark-Paul because I had no idea who he was. I still don't really know.
I actually hadn't bothered but now I know that he's "that guy from 'Saved by the Bell'". In retrospect, I was better off not knowing. I don't think that one about "hindsight being 20/20" is ever really gonna sink in for me.

I always thought Saje had a tic. :)

It's a temporal tic - I can't hold shift a second early and so am struggling to achieve a full colon.

Not gross like that sounded though, I mean my lower intestine not *ewwww, shudders, steels self* punctuation.
I love the combination of knowing wink and open-mouthed amazement.

Now I'm just waiting for someone to say something about which I can be both knowing and amazed.
What's wrong with Bochco Firefly 2? We could finally get the deal on Mal and Inara (played by What's-His-Name and This-Year's-Girl), communicated through plutonium-weight psycho-dialogue chiefly concerning their different backgrounds and attitudes and goals in life.

Then we could all have a hit off whatever's in Inara's syringe.

Nevermind.

Happy April
Now I'm just waiting for someone to say something about which I can be both knowing and amazed.

Because you'll have just the expression for it ;0!
You mean the details of Saje's colon didn't qualify? Like Codex, I like my colons nice and impersonal, thanks.
I don't know how many of us here could feel "knowing" re. the details of Saje's colon... though I've no doubt we're all amazed. More :0 than ;0, I think.
S'true, you shouldn't stare at my colon for too long - it's very similar to Nietzsche's abyss in that respect.
;O

I think I get it! It's not a knowing wink. It's trying not to look, but peeking with one eye.
Ask not at whom the colon stares. It stares at thee.
Nietzche and Hemingway. Go boom?
So with Nietzsche's quote in mind, if I don't find my character quickly enough, I end up in Saje's colon? Yeesh.
It's trying not to look, but peeking with one eye.

That must be it. And it's not open-mouthed amazement so much as horror. Not to imply that Saje's colon is horrifying. Only yes, because it's staring at me. ;0!

(We must be the only ones not reading that spoilery thread.)
Donne?

This thread is definitely safer.
Donne?

Already? But we're just getting started!
Is it spoilery if it's dreamy? Is it Donne if it makes me hemming way?

Sorry. Night.
Hee hee b!X is on a roll today.

E-cos I can't spell

Ah, if it wasn't for April 1st, we wouldn't get threads like this that make me ;o.
I don't know if Saje has ticks, but I've got these bedbugs I can't chase away.
Great prank!
Of course, if any of this were even in the pipeline to being true, Joss would've been dropping some hints.
The way I see is like this:
If I don't read it as a post from Joss, or hear it from his mouth, I don't believe it's happening.
Funny to see people flip out over this, though.
LOL!
People are flipping out?
That was not funny...at all.
