Tonight at PaleyFest09 - the Dollhouse panel.
In attendance will be Joss Whedon, Sarah Fain, Elizabeth Craft, Eliza Dushku, Fran Kranz, Dichen Lachman and Miracle Laurie. It should prove to be an interesting evening.
Hopefully we'll get good coverage of this event as it happens.

I wonder what they're going to show (Ep 13 perhaps?) before the discussion. Or if they'll be nice and just dive into a 2-hour discussion. :D
YAY! I'll update afterwards.

Also, maybe Kevin Reilley will make a surprise appearance (maybe jump out of a cake or something) and announce that it's being renewed. Now that would be a successful evening.

If I'm in LA next year as planned, I'm hitting every single one of these events. Every. Single. One.
sumogrip | April 15, 15:12 CET
And yeah, the mood of the event has me worried... but I hope we can rise above and ask some great questions. This may be our last chance.

Agreed, Squishy! I say we put it to a vote. Whatever the outcome, FOX must abide.

That might describe tonight's panel, but it also describes the Pushing Daisies episodes that will be shown at the Cinerama Dome on Sunday. Either way, I'll praise them both.

Here's hoping we get some good, insightfull questions to clear up all the confusion here about, for instance, the influence FOX had on the process, etcetera.
This is probably going to be a lengthy thread, isn't it? ;)

ETA: Apparently they're watching 'Needs,' which, awesome - one of my favorite episodes so far.

I assume that means he's optimistic about them? Or there's a good chance? Kind of having trouble deciphering that one.
ETA that I like this quote (again, courtesy of @Tabz): "My goal is that there is never such a thing as a typical joss whedon show - joss"

That's my issue too. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't consider that Joss could be misleading us a bit. But he did just say yesterday that it ain't looking so good. So I dunno what to think.
sumogrip | April 15, 20:01 CET
...maybe I just realized the parallel between a "treatment" for an active in the Dollhouse and a "treatment" for an actor in Hollywood.

Or you know, an explanation that doesn't make him all manipulatively. Its not like before he said it was certainly going to be canceled, and now he's saying its a sure thing. To me, this is consistent with what he said before: possible, but not exactly probable.
SteppeMerc | April 15, 20:11 CET
I'm not saying he's trying to toy with our feelings. But I don't find it unbelievable that he went home yesterday, realized, "Hmm, maybe my going around saying the show's probably dead isn't such a great idea," and came back with a new line. It would be understandable. I'm just trying to figure out which to trust more.
sumogrip | April 15, 20:15 CET
Let Down | April 15, 20:15 CET
Seriously, though, I think both can be true. Having the execs like the show doesn't mean that it's safe. It just means it's not canceled. Key word might be "yet," but we just don't know. I think the situation is conditional, that they haven't come to any kind of decision yet.
I really think that they'll probably end up not canceling now, as the show could do what Buffy did and pick up steam as it goes on.

I also don't think either statement cancels each other out. He may not be optimistic about the show's chances, but that doesn't mean optimism about the shows chances doesn't exist. He doesn't seem to be ruling out the possibility of a second season. I agree that emphasis is the key, also of issue is the overraction of fans and nit-pick pick picking Joss' every word. ;)

And I need context for Joss' optimic. I'll wait to read the reports before I get too optimic myself. Though I must admit, even if it's not all that different from what he's been saying, my hope, she is rising ever so slightly.

Like, perhaps, questioning the motives of network executives who are acting OVERLY nice.
Still, we've got a Miracle.
And not to mention, a Faith.
Joss fans have done great things for Charity.
So I sure ain't giving up HOPE yet! ;-)

His comments are logically compatible - it's more of a difference in emphasis
Which can depend on something as trivial as blood sugar levels at the time of the comment. Which is why i've consciously stepped off the renewal roller-coaster - I refuse to have my spirits lifted or dropped depending on whether Joss has (or hasn't) just had a Snickers ;).
Wait and see. Nothing is anything until it's something.
I'm trying to be Zen about the whole thing.
Me too. And eating fruit.
Did you see the finale yet jcs ? How good was that ? Maybe slightly deus ex machina but just so very 'Life' (i.e. bathed in light, "We have a word for 1+1 equals 1 ...". Awww ;). Gonna miss it if it's gone but i'm glad it went out well (even with the slightly awkward work-arounds for Sarah Shahi's bump).

Yes, Joss was extremely evenly optimistic (try typing that on a phone). He said that he had been so depressed and down and Fox told him "we haven't decided yet! He said they liked the target demo numbers (if not the overall ratings) and a couple times he's said that they LIKE the show and want to continue it. So it's not a sure thing, but it's not a depressing inevitability either.

That and me and Miracle are Filip friends! (yea, did anyone know where Eliza went last night I mean I looked back and she was gone)
BTW I'm going to post a recap in the next few days so my twitter account is @rheamcgee
