Package Art for Dollhouse Season 1 Blu-rays and DVDs - Dollhouse

Been waiting ages to see this. I can't wait to get my hands on season 1 of Dollhouse on DVD.

Season One.

I know, I know. It'd be suicide (I guess) to put out a DVD saying "the complete series" right now. But still. Season One.

Kinda disappointed they went with that promo art for the box cover. It's a cool design, I was just hoping for something I hadn't seen before.

I am so, so happy they went with a promotional photo for the art and not some botched up Photoshop job (RE: Terminator S2 DVD art). I hope it comes it a shiny slip cover as well. Can't wait to get the Blu-Ray.

Not at all what I was expecting - thought they would go for the pink-city-lights-melding-into-half-naked-Eliza motif. I suppose this is kinda cool though.

Well, it's not as noticeable as what they did to her on the Tru Calling Season 2 DVD.

I'm always more interested in the back of dvd cases. So I can't wait to see that.

Was thinking they'd end up using this as the cover art. While I like the image itself and it's a totally slick choice, really wish it were something different that included the OTHER people on the show. :/

Has this always been, "Joss Whedon's" Dollhouse?

I know it was always, "Berry Gordy's The Last Dragon" and "Kurt Busiek's Astro City" but if the title is Dollhouse, I think it's kind of lame for them to use his name on the cover to sell more copies. It reminds me of the Astonishing X-men trade paperback with GIANT block letters spelling Joss' name in a larger font than the title of the comic.

(I think that might be my super power; unlimited powers of nitpickability. And yes, I'll probably end up buying 3 copies.)

Eliza looks amazing in the Tru Calling Season 1 cover art. I think that's one of my favorite pictures of her. I wish they didn't photoshop her so much for the Dollhouse set, she's gorgeous enough as it is.

FYI, a push started yesterday on Twitter to get DVD sales figures on Amazon up. I'm tracking the rankings hourly. The DVD is now number 39 on Amazon's "Movers & Shakers" (biggest gainers), jumping 44% in the last 24 hours. Buying the DVD gets regularly pimped out of here now.

Is it possible that the DVD release can influence the future of the show in any way? Will the decision about renewal be made soon, before the DVD's release? If not, could strong sales or pre-orders influence whether it is picked up again?

Just think, Fox might have completely changed their minds about axing Firefly if they had realised how many copies the DVD boxset went on to sell, and how profitable potential future seasons could have been, even if ratings were never huge. I hope Dollhouse doesn't have to become another story of "what if?"

i actually expected this cover, but hoped it would be something new that included the whole cast, because for me the show is not just about eliza being awesome, but about these very lovely characters that i would like to meet in real life.

anyway, i still like it. i will like anything that has to do with the show. the cover really could have been worse.

Razor: Honestly, I have no idea, at least at this stage. But the attention and the perception generated by strong DVD sales -- and the surge in sales we've created just in the last 24 hours (less, actually) -- certainly can't hurt.

Like others have said, it looks cool, but I wish they hadn't just recycled the promo art, which I was never that fond of to begin with. I like the dollhouse font, the addition of Joss's name, and the quote from Time, just don't think that picture is very exciting. Although it looks better on the cover than it did elsewhere because there's less white space.

I don't really have any issue with the photo, but the typography makes me want to shoot myself in the eyes. The "Joss Whedon's" and "Season One" sections look so very much like a Microsoft Word document gone wrong. At the very least, they could've worked on the alignment slightly.

Apart from the boobtastic Photoshopping of Eliza, I'd say this cover would take about five or ten minutes of pretty laid-back work.

Honestly, though, the photo they chose doesn't seem to lend itself to having much type. I'd say that's the reason why that promotional version of it that was linked has such small type, at the bottom of the image.

I like it. It gives you a taste but leaves plenty of room for your own expectations & interpretations of the cover (as well as the show). Much like the show itself, actually.

I like the photo (reminds me of Nip/Tuck actually) but it would be kinda cool if they did a complete cast one with the dolls amongst the manequins and other people (Adelle etc) dotted around.

I feel sorry for the manequin whose ear was removed. Harsh.

*Snort.* Yeah, 'cause no matter how beautiful and lush, it's just not enough, is it? (I say this as one who spends days photoshopping fashion photos, so I really do know how much it's done.) But adding cleavage to someone like Eliza and for one of Joss' shows? Pretty absurd, if you ask me. Coals to Newcastle.

And yeah, there were a slew of really well-done posters in the same series as the one Simon links to above - but I don't see the others up there now, unless I'm just missing 'em. I've save the link and downloaded the posters at home, so I'll check a little later. I really liked some of them, but they didn't seem to use them much...

Hopefully the use of all that white might make the box art stand out from any other series, aside from maybe Chuck?

At first I thought the only difference between blu-ray and DVD was that they decided to make the logo go vertical but I just noticed they also shift everything a little to the right. For whatever reason I like the vertical logo and blu-ray cover in general... Maybe since the blue case and bumped up color contrast really make it pop?
