Street Gang: The Complete History of Sesame Street. I've been reading 'Street Gang' of late, and it is chock full of Whedoney goodness - Tom Whedon, that is.

The book is a few months out now, and I don't see mention of it on here anywhere, so I thought I'd let y'all know that if you're interested in the non-Henson side of Sesame Street, the book is great -- and full of tidbits about Tom Whedon's time writing for stage, his writing partnership with Jon Stone (and juicy details of how it started!), how Stone and Whedon hooked Joe Raposo up with Sesame Street, and Whedon's time with Captain Kangaroo, Sesame Street, and The Electric Company.

Thank you. I want to read this. I do remember reading a bit about how the writers for the Electric Company would go over to Tom Whedon's house and drink and work on EC. I thought it explained a lot about the show.

Unfortunately, it's also insanely boring. The good Tom Whedon bits are at the beginning. It also gives a one-sentence shout-out to Joss.

I'm not finding it boring at all; I'm actually pretty fascinated by the story of the people who aren't Jim Henson for once (I adore Henson. I really do. But I know everything ever put to paper about the man's involvement in Sesame Street, and I'm fascinated now by things like Cooney's years of research predating the show. To each their own ;-)

I couldn't wait to read the book, but once I did I also found it incredibly boring. I can understand thespian's point of view, but for me it was like a giant painful college textbook, with nary a funny or interesting story to break the monotony.

Some of the opening chapters of the book are boring where Davis goes into detail about gathering funding for the show, and the history of children's television. But it picks up a few chapters in when they really get into the debut of Sesame Street and the continuing research and development as the show has changed over the years.
