Joel Grey among the guests of 'An Evening with Gavin Friday and Friends'.
Joel Grey (Doc in Forever, The Weight of the World, and The Gift) will be performing alongside Gavin Friday and Friends at Carnegie Hall this Fall.
When fandoms collide... 'Whedonesque' is not my main interest in popular culture. (Not my 2nd or 3rd either.) For the last 20 years I have followed, written about, worked for and become friends with the Irish singer Gavin Friday. This year Gavin turns 50. To celebrate, Hal Willner (music supervisor of SNL) is organising a special event in Carnegie Hall on October 4th. Joel Grey is but one of the many guests that will sing and perform with Gavin.
When I was a little girl, one of my favourite songs was 'Money' from the movie 'Cabaret' as performed by Joel Grey and Liza Minelli. It planted a seed for my future interest in all things Friday.
Gavin says of him: "Joel Grey is as you say a living legend. He has been a touchstone to me as a performer since I was a teenager…. He and his performance in ‘Cabaret’ for me was the key to the door... it was my introduction to Brecht, Weill, Lotte Lenya. It opened a very inspiring can of worms."
Full line up:
Laurie Anderson, Antony, Elizabeth Ashley, Bono, Adam Clayton, Andrea Corr, The Edge, Flo & Eddie, Joel Grey, Bill Frisell, Guggi, Courtney Love, Lydia Lunch, Patrick McCabe, Maria McKee, Shane MacGowan, Eric Mingus, Larry Mullen, JG Thirlwell, Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright, Chloe Webb, Plus Special Guests.
Needless to say I will be there. Working as well as celebrating the life and songs of a remarkable talent.
