The Joss Whedon quiz. Can you get 20 out of 20?

17/20. No idea what I got wrong, because apparently it doesn't tell you.
I got 17/20 too.
I don't care what I get, I got to the question which mentioned my home town (Canterbury) and kinda spazzed out...
Only 16 out of 20 ( i r knot teh fanboi i gess :-( )...and I don't get told which ones I missed. double :-(

Darn 16/20. I wish I knew what I missed!
15/20. I'd say I know nothing but I just dunno ...

Was gonna say the correct answer's not a city but it's got a cathedral so it must be. Just always seemed too small to me (surely one of the smallest cities in the UK ?).
17/20. The Drew Goddard question didn't seem to belong.
14/20, but the good thing is that apparently, "I'm not broken".
16/20. Would really be a smart thing to show what you got wrong.

What an original comment
Woo! 18/20!

Pretty good, considering that for most of the questions I didn't actually know the answer, just went with a "What Would Joss Do..." gut feeling :D
15/20.

Checked a few answers on IMDB, tried again, 15/20 again.
16/20. I feel moderately knowledgeable.
Checked a few answers on IMDB, tried again, 15/20 again.

Ooh, Wikipedia vs IMDB in this week's most unanticipated Inaccuracy Smackdown '09 !
13/20 I am deeply shamed.
Another 16/20 here. What's the point without the answers? Silly quiz-makers.

I didn't know any of the personal-life ones--what city he's from, where he lived in England or how many kids he has.
There was a quiz like this a few weeks ago where putting the mouse over the answers gave a link that had "true" and "false" in the code. That made it so much easier....

But Joss' favourite Harry Potter character? What skill he'd want as a doll?
15.. wish I knew which ones I had wrong.
17/20! :D

I know I got his hometown wrong, wonder what else.
I didn't know any of the personal-life ones--what city he's from, where he lived in England or how many kids he has.

Those ones I knew. But not in a stalkery way.

(didn't know who didn't have the trifecta or what he would be imprinted with - cos I haven't watched that DVD extra yet - or who his favourite Potter character is. Though I had a fair guess at that one ;)

And I used the combined might of Wikipedia, IMDB and random Googling and got ... 15/20 again. Which is confusing because I got solid answers on a lot of the ones I guessed at previously and really can't see what I got wrong on the rest.

So either the quiz is wrong, there's some sort of cookie madness going on so you can't go back and re-answer OR the internets know nothing (that last being too unsettling to seriously contemplate).

ETSay: Err, cheers Simon.

13/20 and I swear the first question doesn't give the correct answer....lame.

Um, The Pack?

(edit to end Italics from above post...hope it works otherwise I'll be editing for no reason...)

14/20 I'll go stand in the corner now, hanging my head in shame.
Fixed italic weirdness. I should get an extra point for that.
16/20 - so are we going to compare answers here?

Edited to add invisi-text.

Fun quiz, shame there's no answers though!

The last one stumped me...as far as I can remember only Summer has been on 3 Joss shows (Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse), Gina and Amy have only been on 2 (both on Angel, Gina also on Firefly, Amy on Dollhouse). Is the question phrased incorrectly or am I forgetting something here?
17/20

As far as I know, neither Amy or Gina have been in more than two Joss productions. Am I wrong or is the question wrong??

I think Joss said Hermione was his favorite character back when the last book came out. And I'd like to take this opportunity to say that in certain pics, Jed looks like he could be an adult Ron.
Only 15, that sucks
Thanks Emmie for your answers! Hacksaway - After a bit of IMDB research I see that Amy is in Cabin in the Woods so I guess that was being counted.

Computer says ... no ;).

16/20 - so are we going to compare answers here?

Problem being Emmie, some people look at the comments before the link. Bit spoilery.

(I had those except for no. 20 BTW. And i'm pretty sure no. 19 is correct)
16 out of 20 as well. I guessed on his hometown but I did know where he grew up so as long as that is what was meant, I got it right.
I did definitely have to guess how many episodes he directed.
After a bit of IMDB research I see that Amy is in Cabin in the Woods so I guess that was being counted.

Ah, okay. I suspected there might be something like that, so I did end up going with Gina. So yay.
Emmie and I had the exact same answers.
This is frustrating (in a fannish way). I feel like the answers are right and yet I have no idea which ones are wrong...
16/20

I'm pretty sure I know the ones I got wrong... will check it later.
Saje, I picked the "right" one, but wasn't the Pack listed as his favorite on the extra disc with the complete series box set? I could've sworn so.
His favourite episodes mentioned on the letter included with the original R2 Complete Buffy boxset were:

The Pack
Ted
Passion
I Only Have Eyes For You
The Wish
The Zeppo
Earshot
Pangs
Fool For Love
Tabula Rasa
Selfless
Conversations With Dead People

But we didn't get the extra disc here in the UK.
I got 19/20, and my answers matched Emmie's except on #s 4, 13 and 14. For those, I put...

Sure wish I knew which one I got wrong! :-\
Hasn't Joss said he'd like to be imprinted with both every language in the world AND piano-playing-like-with-fingers abilities? I could've sworn he's said both.
sonyajeb I'm pretty sure it's 4. And it's not the one I mentioned earlier either.
It's official. This quiz sucked. Not because I didn't get 20 - I didn't expect to, but no answers? Poopy!
17/20. Than I looked them up and did it again and got 16/20. I would like to know the correct anwsers. I think Oxford got me a point while Winchester didn't.
His favourite episodes mentioned on the letter included with the original R2 Complete Buffy boxset were.

I believe these were his favorite episodes that he did not direct. He excluded any of his own episodes.

Ah, maybe didifallasleep, wouldn't be surprised if he'd given different answers to that question at different times.

Sure wish I knew which one I got wrong! :-\

Pretty sure it's 4 sonyajeb (should be ). I used to live about 20 minutes drive from the correct answer (and a friend went to the same school though not at the same time as Joss).
There definitely was an interview where Joss said . It was Boyd/Harry Lennix who wanted to . So that's one question that Sci-Fi got wrong. Also - Joss has so there's another question where the answer's wrong on the quiz. And he attended in England. So that makes 3.
I believe these were his favorite episodes that he did not direct. He excluded any of his own episodes.

Missed that, cheers.
Joss said the piano thing on one of the Dollhouse DVD featurettes, I know that much. The same one where Jed wanted to play like Hendrix. So he's said both.
Yep, that exact wording. Later they comment that Joss might be a doll and Jed says "Whose fantasy is that ?" which made me smile cos only your brother can say that sort of shit and get away with it ;).

(or in other words, i've now watched that DVD extra ;)
Well, they got 4 wrong on the quiz, then. I just tried it out with the right answer instead of the one I originally put, keeping all my other answers the same, and it took me down to 18 instead of 19. :-\

This quiz definitely got some of the answers wrong!
Ah, well there was a video interview while Season 1 was airing where he said he wanted to be able to speak every language. Lennix said playing the piano. I thought the languages answer made perfect sense because Joss is all about verbal wordplay. That's why I remembered it. So it seems like that question has 2 correct answers there.

I re-took the quiz with the "wrong" 3 answers and got 19/20.
I got 17/20, by the way. And I legitimately missed where Joss went to school. "England" was about as specific as I could get. Maybe, on a good day, "Some school in England."
By trial by error I got 20/20. 19 was supposedly Wolverine. Quite funny how my fact checking hurt my results, not because I checked them with bad sources but because they hadn't checked their facts at all.

So that makes:

The quiz is broken then. Quite a relief, for a second there I thought the internets knew nothing. Which is inconceivable.
Yeah, I got 15/20, and I had Emmie's answers exactly. So... I think they have at least a few things wrong.

And yeah, a quiz without answers is like a grilled cheese sammich without tomato soup.

Practically Pointless.
Bwahahaha! Wolverine? Heh. Mystery solved.

Does anyone else sometimes wish quizzes like these were vetted on Whedonesque? Doing our fannish civic duty and all that.
Good questions, but badly researched that quiz. That is, by far, the only explainable reason I got 13/20 with Adelle thinking I can do better.

I'm the little fan that could.

Ouch. That was one of the few I knew without even having to think about it first. No wonder I couldn't find the "wrong" answer, lol. I never would've thought to NOT guess !

[ edited by sonyajeb on 2009-10-06 23:18 ]
I even tried Bad Robot or something like that for the production company. Some of these mistakes seem so silly you'd almost think they were made on purpose so they would get more hits out crazy fans trying to figure it out. (The lack of anwsers also fits with that.)

LOL, bad robot. That's JJ Abrams' production company, right?
Ok...so one of my right answers was really wrong and one of my wrong answers was really right. So that all works out. Guess I should get back to work now.
So wait. How has Whedon worked with Amy Acker on three different projects? What's the third besides Angel and Dollhouse? I'm guessing for Summer it's supposed to be Angel, Serenifly and DH....
I think Amy is supposed to be in Cabin. (I certainly hope she is!)
IMDB says she's in it and so she must be. That or reality's broken.
Wait, but 4 of my answers were different from those, but I got 17/20?
Maybe reality actually is broken !
Got 11/20 first try. then 13/20, then I did some googling and got 17/20.
there were a few I guessed and others I just got confused.
I read the comments and see the quiz is broken.
I remember once a long time ago, Fox had a contest about the x files and like half the answers were wrong.
conclusion:do the research first.
I suppose that's one way to get you page count up. Run a lame quiz that gullible people like us take over and over trying to see what answers work out.
Yeah but I didn't read the adverts so that's Saje 1, Sci-fi Channel 0.
There were adverts?
I don't know for sure myself but a gullible friend told me there were.
I didn't read the adverts, either. I think every time you don't read an advert an angel gets its wings.

Either that, or God kills a kitten. I can never keep it straight.

I do know that reading the adverts keeps time flowing in the proper direction - so if things start to get weird time-flow-wise ; > please try to forgive me.
Pfft, time flowing forwards is so next year. It'll totally have been done.
17/20. I'm so embarrassed.
I'm pretty sure Joss has said he would like to have the super power where he can speak any language (he mentioned the character of Cypher from the X-Men who was killed because it was the worst power to 'draw.') This was on either the box set bonus disc or the best buy bonus disc.
Yeh I got 17/20 too, so there are definately some mixed up answers in there. (Since I'm like an Ultimate!Fangirl and don't get this stuff wrong, usually.)
I didn't get ads, thanks to AdBlocker.
Was Joss saying he wanted to speak any language maybe from the Dr. Horrible dvd?
15/20 according to the quiz.
18/20 according to reality.
17/20. amusing few moments.
16/20

Considering that I blew Winchester and the other inaccuracies I now make my score 19/20 BWA-HA-HA !!!
I got 18/20, and I know I put Oxford and 1 kid, so I assumed those were the two I got wrong. Yes, I put X-Men.
I got 17/20, but had 4 "wrong answers" according to the "correct answers" invisied above. Tried again, fixed 2 of them, but the "correct answer" for 18 wasn't available anymore (only 2 were there) so I picked the same as first time. I should have 2 wrong at this point. Got 17/20 again. It's not just that the answers are wrong...
15/20 but I knew I was making wild guesses on several questions.... I guess this means that I'm NOT a stalkery obsessed fan after all!
Was Joss saying he wanted to speak any language maybe from the Dr. Horrible dvd?

Just checked, and this is indeed from Dr. Horrible. So omnilingualism would be Joss's preferred superpower, not imprint. Though it does seem to fit the imprint process better. And doesn't Boyd actually play the piano in Echoes?
14/20... I'm okay with that, being a newbie Whedonverse fan [I started watching his shows for 10 years ago, but still].
BTW do you think Joss would get 20/20?
I think Joss would write-in his own answers and they'd be hilarious.
This quiz is sooooo broken. I had 17/20 then I changed the Oxford answer and got 16/20, whaaat? Lame.
And doesn't Boyd actually play the piano in Echoes?

I think Harry Lennix plays but he talks about wanting to be good enough to play Carnegie Hall on the DVD (though he also says if you can't remember it then what's the point IIRC).
"I'm not broken".
You scored 14 out of 20

ETA: ... and only now I see that perhaps I had 17/20 or so. :-)))
I can't believe you all guys! With these hidden texts and all that. Great. Thanks.

I'll try to stay 'not broken' . . .

Although, the FAILquiz(tm)* with no answers has at least prompted a >90 comment discussion thread. So it has some merit.

* as I propose we refer to any quiz of this nature henceforth
Got 14/20 and was told I had fallen asleep. Read this thread and "cheated". Got 18/20 and the following message:

"Everything is going to be alright." Boyd knows you only need one more point.

Huh?
I feel better about my score knowing the quiz is broken.
I think 22 episodes directed is incorrect - imdb counts the unaired pilot (which wasn't even full-length) and Welcome to the Hellmouth, on which someone else was credited. Did he direct the whole episode?

I think there are other episodes in which he directed individual scenes, but they shouldn't count either.
18/20 but since the quiz itself has some wrong answers, I guess it's meaningless.
